What is the greatest Final Fantasy game of all time?

One of the longest, most prolific and most storied franchises of gaming turns twenty five this year! And even as the franchise has struggled in recent years, and has divided and fragmented its fanbase with every successive entry, the series remains the flagship standard of quality console JRPG experiences.

Considering that there are fourteenmain series Final Fantasy games (not to mention over a hundred other games- spin offs, remakes, sequels, side stories- bearing the Final Fantasy name), figuring out which game is the best loved by series fanatics can be hard.

Never fear!

I decided to try and get a definitive answer to the question, at least as far as System Wars is concerned: What is the greatest Final Fantasy game of all time?

Rather than having a poll, where I would be limited by five options, I decided to go for a much more open and flexible approach instead.

• Name your three favorite Final Fantasy games, in order of preference
• The game that is ranked first in your post will be awarded 50 points. The second game gets 25 points, and the third game gets 15 points.
• Only posts that name three games will be counted. Posts that name less than three games will be disregarded.
• If you name more than three games, then only the first three games mentioned in your post will be counted.
• Based on your responses, the points that each game gathers will be tallied up. At the end of the voting period, the game with the most number of points will be deemed to irrefutably be the best Final Fantasy game, as voted by the fanbase.
• Only main series games will be counted. Spin offs and side sequels are not eligible. So as good as Tactics and X-2 were, they do not qualify fot this contest. The MMOs, however (Final Fantasy XI Online and Final Fantasy XIV Online) do count.

With that in mind, here are my three favorite Final Fantasy games, in order:

FFXIII is the best, just because Lightning is the main character.

You know how Final Fantasy fans get. They all love one or two games from the series to death and they hate the people that don't like those games. Sure, some people can just be Final Fantasy fans, just like some people can be basketball fans. You appreciate different games for what they offer, just like you appreciate different teams for what they offer and accept that some may suck. Then there are the fans of individual games who are the equivalent of fans of individual teams.

And that's where all the shouting comes from.

That or games are serious business. Take your pick.

Probably FFX overall. Best story in the series, one of the better battle systems. I'll follow that with FFVII ... and FFVIII for your points system.

Personal favorite is FFVIII.

You don't have to strap me down and force me to play it. You could get me a PS1 or 2 though so that I could technically play it. :P

I've only played FFXIII, so I'm not voting in this one, and I'll be buying FF6 sometime soon, maybe even this week. I've got access to FF1-6, 13, and 13-2 based on the systems I currently own. So 9 is out of the question for me, sorry. UNLESS SOMEBODY GIFTS ME SOME FORM OF A PLAYSTATION!!!! *hinthint*
