[QUOTE="Orchid87"][QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]Just to put it into perspective, I have around 150 community maps in my maps folder (which are just as good if not better than the official ones). Sp4rtan_3
Valve are in symbiosis with their community. Something that Bungie can only dream of.
What are you talking about ? halo reach is connected to bungie in everything we do. They treat their community amazing :? I'm guessing it's because of community events like this http://www.teamfortress.com/war/part1/index.htm, which turned TF2 into an additional meta game, involving players in the process of an update. Then other things like anyone being able to submit content to Valve and have it added to the game; and, make money from it. Be it maps, items, apparel. Etc. A friend recently had a model of theirs be picked up by Valve after submitting.
This was all stemming from other community events like the polycount contest http://www.polycount.com/2010/07/15/the-team-fortress-2-polycount-pack-winners Even the TF2 web comics are an after product of fan made TF2 comics, and Garry's mod asset tinkering thrown into the mix (which all really stems back to the humour, style and personality of the game).
It's a very peculiar thing, there really aren't any online shooters like it in this sense.
Not to say Bungie isn't great, they certainly are - even with MS putting ther foot in the door to content releases, and community content they, still manage to pull off great things.
Edit* GS broke my links hooray
