Well that does suck. I thought you didn't have Live anyways because you don't want to pay for it?Heil68Lafi's cousiin apparently left behind a year card for it and he uh... liberated it, for me.

The 360 is great for:
1. Casuals who just want to play a few games a year
2. PS3 and Wii owners who just want to play a few exclusives
3. People who aren't sure if they want to invest in the 360
4. Kids
Just because it does not meet your needs does not mean that it is horribly gimped. Geez.RogueShodown
But it is horribly gimped. Think about how much it would cost them to add a 10-20GB HDD. It still wouldn't be so much that you wouldn't ever need a bigger HDD, but at least you wouldn't need one right away. The way it is now, you can't do much without having to go out and buy a 250GB. There's no reason to have the Arcade as an option if you're not able to do the simplest of things.
Yeah, I think the Arcade is pretty much useless. If your going to invest in the console, go ahead and get the one with the hard drive, especially this day and age with all the DLC.So just to confirm, so far Reach is the same way. I tried to play the Firefight playlist in Matchmaking and was blocked out for not having a hard drive. I'm hoping co-op campaign isn't the same, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Also, to make this worse. There isn't even fine print on the Reach box. No "optimized for hard drive" or anything, which is incredibly unfair.Skittles_McGeeIs there anywhere on the Arcade box that says you'll be able to play all 360 games or anything to that effect?
If there is you'd probably have a legitimate claim to be able to at least exchange it wherever you bought it from.
It's very bait and switchish.

Contact Microsoft and see if they will help you out with this. The thought had crossed my mind to get the cheaper slim Arcade version, but after reading all your posts about these issues, I'm probably , no I'm definitely getting the 250gb version, then giving my other son my old one. You wouldn't think Microsoft would even equip their system like that, especially how hard they push Xbox Live. LImited content space, equals limited $$ spent downloading content. Can't you hook up a different hard drive though? I have a buddy who said he uses his 500gb portable hard drive on his slim 360.

I normally don't keep boxes, but strangely enough, I think I kept the box for this one. I'll have a look sometime.Yeah, I don't think Microsoft meant to do it, but then again they didn't mean to have the RROD debacle either. If this is true it would be another ball dropped by them in the hardware business imo. Although I don't know anyone of my friends who owns the ARcade version of either the slim, or the old one. I think the Arcade ones are pretty much useless, unless you don't game online, then maybe. This seems more like something that should/could be patched than a deliberate effort on Microsoft's part to screw you over.

I bought an Arcade at Target. It was on sale for $129.99, plus they offered a $50 gift card. I spent $40 on a 60Gb HD off of Amazon that included a headset and a 3 month XBL gold membership and used the $50 gift card to buy some groceries. Not a bad deal, though I'd never buy one at it's regular price.
Hmm, I'd say spend a bit more and go for the 360 S Kinect bundle though I dunno, perhaps you can't afford it but my guess would be you'd be much happier 360 gamer or.... maybe nothing makes you happier then being able to complain about the 360 on SW ? :P
Anyway, sorry to hear of your problems and better luck in your purchasing decisions in the future.
I was really wanting to just get the 4gb and use other forms of memory, this firmware update has been tested and shown that it can do more than just flash, and I was thinking with all the money saved I could go for the kinect bundle, sadly I think either the whole thing will have to wait or the kinect will now.
It works ok unless you are one of those crazy people living in the central time zone. Also if you like moogles, the 360 arcade mode is unkind to you.
Lame. Why do you need a hardrive to play FireFight anyway?SpinoRaptor24Or to save other peoples maps, even though you can save your own maps. Yeah, noodle that one for a while, I still can't figure it out.
Not really, my old Xbox 360 20gb got e74 and since it was bought in 2005 the warranty was over. So i got a Slim arcade, i had already had all the cables, controllers, 20gb hard drive. All at saving me $150 or so. Led_poisonI thought the older proprietary hard-drives weren't compatible with the new console.
I thought the older proprietary hard-drives weren't compatible with the new console. They aren't. At least, not without modification and the like.[QUOTE="Led_poison"]Not really, my old Xbox 360 20gb got e74 and since it was bought in 2005 the warranty was over. The proprietary drives contained are the same used internally (just not consisting of the outer case), and thus are capable of being used on the new models. That's IIRC.
[QUOTE="CB4McGusto"]- Taking away promised HDMI ports - Taking away promised USB ports - Taking away PS2 backward compatibility - Taking away OtherOS When will people learn about $ony?
- Original Xbox dvd remote needed to play dvd's on console
- XBL Gold charge
- 256mb arcade model
When will people learn about M$?

1- Can't take away something that was never there
2- Cant take away something that was never there
3- Early on 1 version had it and the other version didn't have it, consumers knew this and didn't buy it early on. Mine however is still BC :) So they didn't take it away. They just discontinued the versions that did have it.
4- Sad they took away something that literally less than 1% of its users even used, really it is sad.
5- And you compare these things to buying a console that you can't even use basically half of the functions that a game provides?

I wouldn't even bother with cakes sony killed his dog........and his self-esteemI thought it was a given the arcade sucks. jg4xchamp
Yeah it is, but this is some extra suckage. Forcing you to buy a super expensive hard drive even when you have the space is just stupid.
No wi fi either but that isn't actually too bad, my PC is right by my TV so its all good.

To think that a team like Bungie couldn't figure out how to make it work with Arcades is crazy. BTW, can you install any games on the Arcade?

Is this really true? I find it hard to believe MS would do something like thisDiviniuzIts true. As I said, I've no reason to lie. And if you truly need proof, I'm more than willing to capture a couple of screenshots on my capture card.
I'm surprised that the problem was in ODST and was brought up at the Bungie forums, but the problem is still in Reach, my condolences to all those people who bought a $199 360 to play Reach and saw that screen.
Ironically enough in the UK they're selling a bundle with the 4GB slim and Reach.

In all likelihood, I imagine it's not an accidental "problem," but rather a mandate from the publisher...I'm surprised that the problem was in ODST and was brought up at the Bungie forums, but the problem is still in Reach, my condolences to all those people who bought a $199 360 to play Reach and saw that screen.
