Hmm it's probably a toss up between Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario (if you consider it a JRPG. I do) and Baten Kaitos Origins. It is really hard to decide between these, and there are MANY honorable mentions.

FULL DISCLAIMER: I have yet to play Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, and more :P. I plan on playing Chrono Trigger DS after I finish Golden Sun The Lost Age

Golden Sun is great, but not as good as the best, no doubt. Tales of Symphonia however is better then Vesperia IMO. Vesperia's story and feel was not as good As symphonia, and the characters were lacking. Kratos is the man :P. Both are great games, but Symphonia (which was also on the PS2) is my preffered Tales of.
