[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"]golden sun and tales of symphonia come to mind.edo-tensei
Why? because they belong with nintendo? Vesperia and abyss are all superior to symphonia and gonden sun is really not that good people.

A Fewthings wrong with your post:

1. I think you mean both are superior, in your opinion

2. Golden Sun does 'belong to Nintendo', but Tales of Symphonia doesn't. It was also released on the PS2.

3. In an attempt to imply someone is a fanboy, you have just made yourself look one.

Anyway, on topic, I would say Baten Kaitos, Digital Devil Saga, Eternal Sonataand Illusion of Time.

I didn't say you called him one, I said you implied he was one through the tone of your post, which other posters have picked up on. Just like by telling me to 'go back to my cave' you are implying I'm trolling. Which is ironic, really.

Baten Kaitos and TWEWY

bc1391

Someone else that loves BK! Now I have to try TWEWY as you like both BK and it ;).

BTW, if the question is purely on story and presentation and such, then my answers might change to favor FF X, as the story and feeling of that game are what drove me forward.

IMO, Baten Kaitos is one of the most underrated JRPG's of all time. I tink it's the unique setting that appeals to me. By contrast, most JRPG's use familiar cliche's in setting. Lost Odyssey is an example, it seems like such a cut and paste job, along with FF XII, most of the Dragon Quest series etc.

Then you have games like Eternal Sonata, which is truly bizarre, and all the better for it.

This is a no brainer. Chrono Cross is the correct answer. Of the FF games, FFIX is certainly the best.

Hopefully its not too bad. I hope to run through the Suikoden games soon. Excluding the 2nd game since I don't have that type of money to get it lying around. :P

I'm going with FFIX, Vivi's story alone is a winner.

He kinda whined too much in my opinion, but still nowhere as bad as say Squall or Tidus.

Jade Cocoon (I think it was made by a Japanese developer)

If not, Pokemon. Most JRPGs are just big grindfests, and are quite boring because of that. Though, Chrono Trigger (DS) was actually pretty good in comparison.

It's cliche but I've always put FF7 and Chrono Trigger at the top. The quality of the original music and art in those games really stands out. Most JRPGS follow a very similar overall story of travelling the world in order to save the world, so I have to base the quality of story on how interesting the characters and their interactions are. Again, I think these two games really stand out. After these two I would say FF6.

Dead-Memories
or the things that surpass them you just haven't played :P. Gameplay wise, I thought Golden Sun 1 and 2 were really great and I loved the puzzles. Hopefully Dark Dawn can live up to that, but from what I've seen it looks just fine.

Then you have games like Eternal Sonata, which is truly bizarre.

I tried Baten Kaitos, but I hated the battle system so much I couldnt play the game anymore.

Which one, and how long did you give it? I suggest giving it a fair shot, and whichever one it was, try the other because they changed it quite a bit. Same card based game, but very different way of playing. I prefer the second ones battle system although both are great to me.

ohh trust me you'll love it, well as long as you don't mind playing 2d rpgs.

That definitely isn't a problem for me. I recently got done with Suikoden 1 so I'm kind of going to go in order with the series excluding 4 since that was my first suikoden

How is the whole...108 (i think thats how many) party member thing? That personally turns me off a lot, but maybe I am misunderstanding how it works.

Also, is the story of SMT: Digital Devil Saga stand alone, or is it connected to another SMT? I am thinking I may pick it up on amazon as they have the 3 for 2 deal going on right now.

Most of the 108 party members are optional characters in the Suikoden game. I believe I completed the first suikoden with just around 30 lol and I wasn't trying to get the characters.

Also, Digital Devil Saga is stand alone, but I wouldn't recommend playing/beating Digital Devil Saga 1 unless you have the sequel because it begins right after the first. Who likes waiting to continue the story? :P

How are the battles done in Suikoden? Do you only use a couple guys at a time? With that many people, wouldnt the story be week?

Haha if DDS 1 is good, then I will buy DDS2 eventually.
