Hey guys just pick up my copy at my local mom and pop retailer.....the 360 version.
First thing you will notice is the driving...driving is much more realistic...therefore a little harder to drive, and will get some getting used to. I never really did a lot of the missions...just messing around, and damn, it is hard to outrun the police.
Another thing I noticed was, running or sprinting, of course I started a few fights with some gang members (or atleast I thought they were gang members) and those guys never get tired sprinting chasing after you, so I was on the receiving end of quite a few beatdowns because they simply are relentless and will chase you down for blocks, and you will be tired and slow as hell running that much....
Which brings me to my next point....hand to hand combat. Its been improved in the sense that hand to hand fighting is deeper with combos (kicks and punches) as well as the ability to dodge and unleash a devasting counter combo. Definetly a plus...
Now performance issues for the 360 version. I own both systems, and although I have the 360 version, and I dont have PS3 version to compare it too, I will be citing some comments from the IGN review.
Some of you know that this game got 10's across the board from IGN, but Im pretty sure that was a fluff review because no way it gets a 10 for graphics (IGN review was 10 for both platforms I believe). Its nice, but its GTA, its never been about the graphics. Now, as some of you know, I have always appluaded the standard HDD, I believe its essential, in game performance.
I dont believe the hype that Blu-ray makes any game better other than for audio and honestly most people dont have the audio hardware to take advantage of it..I do, and it cost me almost as much as my HDTV. I am a small sliver of the population. But if you can afford it, sound does make a HUGE difference in your gaming experience. But installing game data I believe is a MUST. Cuts down on loading, and can allow the game to put textures and other data on the HDD making for easy (faster) retrieval by the game. So I dont understand the Xbox fanboys making fun of the install times of PS3 games.
Now this issue presents itself in the 360 version. Again, I dont have the PS3 version to compare it to, so calm down Xbox Fanboys. I am simply going with the IGN review on this one. There was TONS and TONS of texture pop-in while playing, and it reminded me of Mass Effect. There were many times I was stuck in the street, or I simple did not see a building right in front of me and crashed right into it. Now the IGN review said there is LESS Pop-in, in the PS3 version not that it didnt have any. I cant help to think the HDD install helped this issue. In fact I know it did. Because it just makes sense. As for better AA and stuff I dont know about that yet, although I highly suspect that because the 360 has pretty much always had better AA performance, and Rockstar have been showing the 360 version for the majority of the time, and journalists have been play-testing the 360 version. I cant help to think the reviewer got this mixed up with the texture pop-in because during the many instances of such hic-ups the textures that are present are jaggy and raw as hell. Again I dont have the PS3 version so I could be 100% wrong on this. So I am dissapointed with that techinical issue, on the 360 side and hopefully it could be fixed with a patch but I doubt it, unless there is a patch that allows you to install game data onto the HDD.
But as far as the main game goes, I only played a couple of missions, and so far so good guys. It seems like this will be an epic, epic game. Voice acting is top notch, and the narrative seems really well written. Roman says some of the funniest things. Oh well I will go back to tweaking on this game for the next 3 days straight.
