hahah guys I don't need to prove myself to anyone I'm just trying to understand wtf is good about this game while making the team ICO fan squad riled up

nmaharg

If you played and understood Shadow of the Colossus, you would understand why we are so excited about this game. One reason is, it doesn't need violence, sex or profanity to be good.

Matter of opinion, and I disagree. You need 1 of those 3 things to be good imo.

I'm shocked that you think that a game needs sex, violemce, or profanity to be good. Since you say it's a matter of opinion, it shouldn't matter. I can point to a number of games that doesn't use any of those three and that are still universally praised.

Well, ICO was know as a cult-classic and I'm sure this one will be treated the same. I don't see anything interesting about it, but that's just me.

Alright alright guys maybe I was a bit of a jerk but this game is listed in every topic about sony's big games I just don't understand how it's getting all this hype. Can you guys open your eyes and be a little more realistic? Half of you are saying this will be the most artistic game ever made, judging by what exactly?

g-rash
Judging by the history of Team Ico and by the trailer. What do you think we are judging by? It's a big game because: a) Team ICO is behind it b) Past games have been critically appraised for its style, artistic direction and beauty

This game has like 3 characters hows it going to be epic. And yes I did play SOTC and that game was pretty sick because you got to take down some bad ass colossi in creative ways and the ending was pretty dope. This game looks like it's for 7 yr old girls.

Animal-Mother

Have you played SOTC?

He says that he has and that he liked it. What a contradictory mess he has gotten into

They've made awesome games that are meaningful without much too them besides awesome gameplay and a heartfelt goal. SotC was absolutely touching for me when I sat down and thought about it.

Yeh, i know, i've played them both and wrote tons about what makes them amazing games. But as underrated as they are, the fans overrate it to oblivion.

OMG! No guns, sex and blood! Bad game alert!

Play ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. More mature games than anything with blood, sex or violence.

foxhound_fox

I loved Shadow of the Colossus, but I'm not afraid to admit that the new trailer makes the next Ico game look like your average mawkish Disney or Dreamworks movie without the (intentional) comedy.

It's normal that anybody who played previous instalments to be hyped for the Last Guardian, but I can't blame other people for not being won over by it.

How? Because the creature the boy rides is cute? Maybe we should put some of the dragons from Lair in there? The game is obviously going to have some strong themes of companionship as a few games have.

I was actually referring to gory violence, like chainsawing someone in half with a chainsaw bayonet. But violence is not always the best form of conflict for telling a story and having fun. Hell, I'm playing Banjo Nuts & Bolts right now and its one of the most fun games I've played this generation. All you do is build cars, planes and boats out of lego bricks and run races.

Yeh, i know, i've played them both and wrote tons about what makes them amazing games. But as underrated as they are, the fans overrate it to oblivion.AAllxxjjnn

I've only ever called ICO and Shadow of the Colossus "amazing games." How do you rate something higher than that? And we try to spread word of them... since they are so under-appreciated... we have to sell them for people to get interested in them. Because if we don't sell them right, most people will play them like any other game expecting any other game and end up disappointed. I see it happen often. People complain about the camera, gameplay and empty environments, not understanding that you must pay more attention to the subtle aspects of the game and not how "good" it is, technically, compared to other games.

I didn't say that you are insecure, but you judge games on a criteria of three things that many games are void of and then disregard them because they don't have these three characteristics. I was a little harsh-- I can at least respect your opinion because you are making it clear your position is very opinionated and you are not bashing a game void of your three characteristics with juvenile reasoning. Sorry

I raise more of an eyebrow at games like Gears of War 2 than I do at The Last Guardian. The last guardian looks deep, thoughtful, and fantastical - and it's kind of refreshing to have main character who doesn't look like they belong in prison. There's a difference between a man and a brute - I'd be far more embarrassed to have only a head for violence than to show some greater appreciation for diverse artistic expression.

I can understand how violence is popular in games. There are no higher stakes than life or death. And I play games to experience that rush from being immersed in high stakes situations and working through them. Violence isn't needed, but it's the easiest option.

As soon as the human mind can be understood or explained using logic you'll get your answer. Once you get use to something it's hard to break the habit. If there isn't intense action(usually in the form of violence) within 30 minutes of putting a game in I lose interest.

I don't even know where "cute" comes from. Its obvious from the trailer that if you are on its bad side, you don't want to be caught. That armor dude near the beginning didn't stand a chance.

Its going to be more than "strong" themes of companionship. Wander and Agro's relationship from Shadow was amazing. Toriko looks like a semi-sentient creature that has feelings and self-worth. You already know that he is going to, at some point during the game, be in extreme peril and look at you with those big black eyes and all they will say is "help me..."

But it's not the Never Ending Story. It's not a movie. It's a game. It's not made by the same people, it doesn't aim to please the same crowd, and it doesn't even interact the same way with the audiences.

How is everyone so sure that this is a pet like Cliford? You will see. The Next clip Team ICO will give will show this dog/bird hybrid ripping heads off and tossing them over his shoulder to the kid whose riding him who then puts them in a sack in order to put them on pikes to make whatever they are guarding a bit more decorative.

I didn't mean to generalize all the fans as "overrating" it. I'm only saying, i often Team Ico fans going a little overboard in how they describe the game.

I watched the trailer, and I didn't see what was so great about it. It reminded me of The Never Ending Story, which sucked.DeathScape666

You know what it reminded me of? A combination of Shadow of the Colossus and ICO... but instead of riding a horse, you are riding a colossus. And instead of trying to kill it, its your friend.

[QUOTE="Tiefster"]How? Because the creature the boy rides is cute? Maybe we should put some of the dragons from Lair in there? The game is obviously going to have some strong themes of companionship as a few games have.

I thought about it and this game will make me cry if he dies :( He/it reminds me of my dog and how we're always together. I think he's cute  but he's riddled with arrows so I'm sure he's kicked his fair share of ass.

I've played shadow of the colosus and ico but this game does not apeal to me. I was hoping for something similar to SOTC but oh well can't have everything. They're are plenty of other games on the PS3 that interest me. I give the makers of the game credit for doing something other then space marines.

I didn't mean to generalize all the fans as "overrating" it. I'm only saying, i often Team Ico fans going a little overboard in how they describe the game.

You have any examples? Because I know I'm probably the biggest and most animated fan on these boards and only describe the games how I see them. I don't strive to build them up more than what they are... only showcase why I think they are so amazing.

I remember hearing one time: "...the Mona Lisa has nothing on this." You're descriptions are completely down to earth, others....not so much.

I cry every single time I play Shadow of the Colossus from the point right before fighting the 16th Colossus (Malus) all the way up until the ending (which has been at least 15 times). The story in the game is so beautifully told and yet is not in any real language nor has much spoken or written dialogue. Its all in body language, atmosphere, themes and underlying tone.

It's hard to make a game like Shadow of the Colossus again. A lot of people are hoping for Shadow 2, which to me is quite ridiculous considering that it totally ruins the concept of the whole game. It's like making sequels to movies that don't need sequels. Home Alone 1 was great. Home Alone 2 was not THAT bad. Home Alone 3 and 4 were disastrous and proved that you can't rely on the same game over and over again. Anyways, I digress. The trailer, IMO, tried to prove one thing: The bond of the griffin and kid. I'm sure as we move on we'll see more and more about what the game really is about.

But it's not the Never Ending Story. It's not a movie. It's a game. It's not made by the same people, it doesn't aim to please the same crowd, and it doesn't even interact the same way with the audiences.

I understand that, but I probably won't get because everyone on here overrates every niche game to hell and back, so I'm not taking their word on it. I can't even tell if a niche game is freaking good or not anymore, because they often get praise no matter what.
