I remember hearing one time: "...the Mona Lisa has nothing on this." You're descriptions are completely down to earth, others....not so much.AAllxxjjnn

Well, that's like any other rabid fan of any game. Even if they've had it a week its the "X game is the greatest thing since sliced bread." (read: Halo 3, MGS4, GTAIV, etc.) Heck, I know I'll probably be touting the game out the ass when it comes out and I play it. Hell, I'll be touting it from now up until its release too. But I know that 5 years from now, I'll still be talking about it and not touting it as the best thing since sliced bread, but only as an amazing game that is totally unique and explaining, in extreme depth, as to why.
I thought about it and this game will make me cry if he dies :( He/it reminds me of my dog and how we're always together. I think he's cute :oops: but he's riddled with arrows so I'm sure he's kicked his fair share of ass.

foxhound_fox

I cry every single time I play Shadow of the Colossus from the point right before fighting the 16th Colossus (Malus) all the way up until the ending (which has been at least 15 times). The story in the game is so beautifully told and yet is not in any real language nor has much spoken or written dialogue. Its all in body language, atmosphere, themes and underlying tone.

I remember when I finally finished SotC after giving it a second chance and I was a wreck, its such a beautiful game. Team Ico has that touch and some people just don't get it.

I thought one of the most heart breaking parts was when
the player was put back in control of the Wander as he is being torn away from ****** at the end
. That and his whole visual transition throughout the game.

I watched the trailer, and I didn't see what was so great about it. It reminded me of The Never Ending Story, which sucked.DeathScape666
Funny I said it equaled that movie in another thread. I thought that film was weak too. Going to take a lot to win me over on this ICO. If anyone can.....

100% agree. It breaks so many norms. The game's dialogue and empty world contrast the lonely mysterious land so much. The fact that the girl is lifeless and that you only have your horse to rely on (thus furthering the bond between the two) is amazing. I'm outraged they are making a movie out of this.

You know what it reminded me of? A combination of Shadow of the Colossus and ICO... but instead of riding a horse, you are riding a colossus. And instead of trying to kill it, its your friend.

Uhh... I would much rather kill that ugly-ass thing.

Even worse is the director is a total hack and will not even remotely do justice to the game. Watch that kid from the Mac commercials be cast as Wanderer.

Cried? Really? That is pretty awesome if you could enjoy that game that much. You are probably going to be sobbing once this angelic guardian is put to sleep Lassie stile (styyyle is a baned word..wow)...C'mon, I'm kidding (about the sobbing part)

Yeah that kind of baffles me since there is nothing to go off of really. Just what is presented to you and what you interpret. I hope the movie gets canceled, gamers should not want to see a masterpiece such as SotC become the next Street Fighter movie.

I understand that, but I probably won't get because everyone on here overrates every niche game to hell and back, so I'm not taking their word on it. I can't even tell if a niche game is freaking good or not anymore, because they often get praise no matter what.DeathScape666

Shadow of the Colossus is definitely not a niche title. Niche titles do not receive Greatest Hits editions. Okami is way more niche than Shadow.

And there are plenty of things to complain about in Shadow of the Colossus... like the disastrous camera controls, terrible framerate issues (well covered up by creative use of motion blur), repetitive elements for killing Colossi and often stubborn controls... but that's not the point of the game. It was designed to tell a story, and you as the player are just supposed to listen, connect with the characters and feel what they feel. Nothing else. It is a medium for the designer to tell you a story... much like a novel, only in a completely unique manner that hardly requires any words.

The funny thing about Shadow is that I played it just once and never touched it again. Not because I didn't want to, but because I felt that replaying it ruined the impact of the game. Sounds strange, but I treasure the game but refuse to play it.

I'll replay it eventually, but not consistently.

Maybe you should reconcider if you like games at all, I find it really silly you would play games based on what you would think your girlfriend or friends might think is cool or acceptable. You also talked about a game giving you and adrenaline rush or something well not all games need to do that for you to like the game right? It's like that other arguement going around here that a game must be "fun" to be a good game. Very narrow mindedin my point of view.

I have a link to a site, that unfortunately is now down... but it had a close-up screenshot of Wander's face after each Colossus he kills... showing his gradual corruption.

Yeah that kind of baffles me since there is nothing to go off of really. Just what is presented to you and what you interpret. I hope the movie gets canceled, gamers should not want to see a masterpiece such as SotC become the next Street Fighter movie.

Sadly, and ironically, the same guy who is writing the script for this movie also did the most recent Street Fighter movie with Chun-Li. I don't think I'm even going to pay the film any attention when it comes out... there is no point in watching something that will ruin my most favourite game. Though, I will always be intrigued to see what they do with it... so its better it didn't come out and they just leave me with my game.

~~~
And you know... all this talk about Shadow makes me want to shut of Banjo and pop in Shadow for another run.
I am the exact opposite. Every time I play the game, it hits me harder. And really, you *must* spend time exploring the Forbidden Lands if you have not already. There are some amazing things to discover. Like a giant black tree and ICO beach. Not to mention climbing the Shrine of Worship is the most rewarding thing to do in the game.
Entirely true. You can't make a movie out of this game. I want people to recognize this game like they recognize something like Halo but you just can't expect that. It's just so unjust. Anyways, I think we've all strayed from the point. The TC's attempt to downplay L.G sucks.
It's a Greatest Hit? What? I thought their games sold horribly... My mistake.
I still find games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 more appealing. I probably won't play this unless I find it as a deal or something. I always see the same Shadow of the Colossus on sale for 15 dollars at GameStop. It's been in that same exact spot, just waiting for someone to pick it up. I watched some videos on YouTube, and can't say I'm impressed. I don't think it's the game for me.
I have yet to find that beach, but I certainly will go back to it. It's been at least a year or so since I played Shadow. It's time to do it again. I just cant play the game multiple times consistently, but I will certainly go back to it.
But it's not like I Am Alive didn't have a good team behind it.
But hey, niche titles will always get more love. I have begun to realize that.
DeathScape666
The Last Guardian's trailer was not CGI. Not in the least. That was all in-engine. And there is multiple proofs for that as well. 1) Team ICO has never, once, used CGI in any of their games. 2) The trailer leaked a couple weeks before E3 was in an alpha stage of development, which showed many elements at very poor quality that looked like ass in screenshots. 3) The E3 trailer was shot-for-shot of the leaked one, with not only a impressive graphical upgrade, but tweaks to many of the scenes. Such as this:
Which became a much larger, and brighter hallway in the E3 trailer. 4) There was also what appeared to be gameplay elements being shown, when the boy was throwing a barrel at one of the Colossus-armor dudes (very ICO-esque), the free-running on the platforms and when Toriko was climbing and the boy was holding on to his tail.
And why shouldn't we hype it because Team ICO is making it? Would you tell a Halo fan not to hype the next game to come from Bungie? They are proven developers who have made outstanding games.
no I just think you're anti ps3 nature, wasn't you the one that made a threat about cows needing to stop hyping uncharted because youdon't like it? that's like me saying well I don't like the casual trash that is smg so sheep don't buy smg2, you'll probably go nuts on me right. Plus how is this game not interesting? If anything it looks like a very deep or "different" from that trailer alone.
Try inFAMOUS, it won't blow you away but it was presented wonderfully and keeps you wanting more. I only finished the good character so far and that was enough for me to exclaim "holy **** no way!"
You guys will play this game in front of your buddies and your gfs if you have them? really? A game about a cute dragon creature helping a boy get through the ruins to some touching music? Seriously? That's what we like to play now? That's what gives us an adrenaline rush and immerses us into a new environment and entertains us? A littly boy with his dragon friend? Seriously? Are we all a bunch of emos that are in touch with our sensitive side now? Let's get serious that trailer was absolute garbage, good idea for a disney movie though. Where's the hype for this game coming from? Team ICO is probably cracking up right now cause they had a bet going that they can take the girliest idea ever and their fans will eat it up.
For sensitive guys, you came down on me pretty hard. I don't think the dragonpuppy would approve of your behavior. I'm off to bed, have fun playing games because it's "art".
g-rash
that's because you derserve it.
TC translation: The game doesn't have blood, gore, gunsand violence and will suck. I take it the TC never played a Team Ico game. Plus I can care less what my friends think of the games I play.
It's a Greatest Hit? What? I thought their games sold horribly... My mistake.
I still find games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 more appealing. I probably won't play this unless I find it as a deal or something. I always see the same Shadow of the Colossus on sale for 15 dollars at GameStop. It's been in that same exact spot, just waiting for someone to pick it up. I watched some videos on YouTube, and can't say I'm impressed. I don't think it's the game for me.
DeathScape666
I actually own two Greatest Hits copies of it, one sealed. I ordered the sealed one off eBay expecting it to be a black label.
you must try the game to know if you will like it or not. It is a very love/hate game. The people who go in open-minded usually come out with a positive experience and those who go in with a negative and comparative attitude generally end up getting bored early on and never going back.
I have yet to find that beach, but I certainly will go back to it. It's been at least a year or so since I played Shadow. It's time to do it again. I just cant play the game multiple times consistently, but I will certainly go back to it.
I've beaten ICO once and only tried going back to it once. I love the game (not as much as Shadow) but do regret not playing it before Shadow... because the animations kind of get to me after playing Shadow in all its fluidity. But I do understand why some people enjoy ICO more... but I just connect with Wander at so much of a deeper level. I probably would like Ico more had I grown up with it, being he's a kid too... but Wander's an adult with adult issues and an adult attitude towards things.
Plus as much as I enjoy the castle in ICO... the Forbidden Lands are just way too majestic for me to not want to spend hours riding around on Agro. And speaking of Agro... far too many people complain about Agro not controlling like a motorcycle and doing everything they want him to do. He's designed like a real horse. No real horse listens all the time.
No matter how many times you dig your heels into his sides and no matter what kind of danger he and you are in... if he doesn't want to go, he's just not going to go until he feels like it.
The thing I don't get though is SotC was a very violent game. Sure there is no shotgun that blows your enemy into a million pieces but you're climbing these massive creatures for the sole purpose to gouging a hole in them.
And not only that... but they didn't do ANYTHING to you. You are just disturbing their slumber, climbing up ontop of them and brutally and fatally harming them.
I loved Argo, he was very natural. The ending regarding Argo was spoiled for me and I was so very upset. They are doing the same thing with the griffin in the Last Guardian. He apparently will not listen to your commands since he is a creature.
I never played ICO. There are many games I want to go back to as a matter of fact.
Wow, aren't you a manly man :roll:
My thoughts exactly. The TC is obviously just an ignorant person that sees no art or story in anything and just wants a mindless shoot em up with lots of gore. Great job you're whats wrong with the world TC.
I remember waving the torch around that one dog-like colossus. God the way these creatures died was so horrible. The last Colossi looked evil too, but remember when he examined you in his hand? Such a nice colossi :) And I love the interpretation that goes into the game. You can literally fall asleep wondering everything about the world of the colossi.
You guys will play this game in front of your buddies and your gfs if you have them? really? A game about a cute dragon creature helping a boy get through the ruins to some touching music? Seriously? That's what we like to play now? That's what gives us an adrenaline rush and immerses us into a new environment and entertains us? A littly boy with his dragon friend? Seriously? Are we all a bunch of emos that are in touch with our sensitive side now? Let's get serious that trailer was absolute garbage, good idea for a disney movie though. Where's the hype for this game coming from? Team ICO is probably cracking up right now cause they had a bet going that they can take the girliest idea ever and their fans will eat it up.
Seriously! Lets go blow **** up and chainsaw steroid, freaked out overgrown lizards! heeeeyaaaa!
Spoiler post: The girl was dead. The Wanderer needed to let go and realize that reality but he didn't. He justified her life for the life of 16 innocent creatures. He was very blind but very human and innocent himself.
The ending was spoiled for me as well... though since I still tear up every time it happens, I don't think it mattered much. And the amazingly subtle thing I've noticed about the ending is...
***SPOILER***
Right before you are about to go up the final staircase to the bridge, Agro resists and hesitates for a second before letting you ride him up the stairs... as if he knows what's going to happen.
***SPOILER ENDS***
That is the absolutely brilliant subtlety that makes Ueda a story-telling genius. Most people probably will never notice it, I know I didn't even notice it until my 8th or 9th time watching the cutscene... but its there and probably has a larger, subconscious effect.
I looked and looked... but cannot find it on Youtube, despite me having found it before.
For a very selfish reason too depending on how you view it.
Tiefster
There is no two-ways about it. It is entirely selfish... but at the same time, it is explained that she most likely was taken away from him unjustly, and all of us, no matter who we are, will never stand for something like that and do whatever it takes to get back what we value most.
~~~

I'm really sorry for anyone who might read the spoiler, but Glitchspot refuses to let me use the tags. I tried everything.

Those creatures were beings created of stone and earth and contained one of 16 manifestations of Dormin. Whether or not they were "alive" is debatable. :P

ok i think people are reading too much into this, but nevertheless, ICO and SOTC were great games and TLG has a shot at being even better than both of them. BTW I think the name and the trailer both suggest a very happy, warm game with a catastrophic ending. Can't wait :D

Im a huge metal gear and shooter buff...and i think the last guardian is going to be one of the best games of this gen. I just love the whole concept of the cat-griffin thing and child combo.....just the way the cat-griffin looks at you in the trailer he makes you feel like your attached to him. And of course we all know that the cat-griffin will die for a good cause at the end just like every sad/ happy team ICO game has been.
