@WolfgarTheQuiet: Not just lems. Fair to assume the vast majority in this thread hasn't played both.

Try playing the last of us with an adult nearby.
Bayonetta is the better game.

@snilowangper: far from a movie but blah. its just your opinion. Most games would be in that category by your logic haha. Well anything that has cutscenes.

@KungfuKitten Cannot compare the two. TLOU is played by yourself, to immerse into the world and the story. Just finished it today, amazing.

Bayonetta is more of action arcade style. Not even the same ball game.

One is a heavily directed cinematic "experience" with solid gameplay separating the next narrative beat. The other a stylish action game honed to perfection with super deep gameplay mechanics, in a pulpy world of larger than life characters.

Arguably, the most memorable thing about TLoU is the narrative and the characters. In Bayonetta's case its the deeply rewarding gameplay and its style.

Bayonetta wins for having gameplay on its side. Its the one aspect you can't relive by watching clips on Youtube.

So much stupid going on in this thread

Prime examples:

"Last of Us is a movie/has mediocre gameplay/just another TPS with light stealth elements"

The words of "people" who have clearly never played it. Trolls. Those "opinions," if we can even call it that, MEAN 0

Notice how those trolls can NEVER LOGICALLY explain in detail why the Last of Us has "bad gameplay" too.

Its because THEY CANT. They have nothing of substance. The Last of Us OBJECTIVELY had great gameplay of high quailty and polish. You cant deny that without sounding crazy.

Hell, the best part about the Last of Us was its gameplay. The most dynamic intense combat encounters ever. Ive replayed Last of Us 7 times now...and it wasnt because of its story...it was the deep intense combat gameplay that kept me coming back....mutiple options of attack, multiple routes to take to enemies with fundamental layer of real time crafting/meaningful item resource managment/high stake encounters vs human A.I and Infected being so different with different tactics for each/low resources/improvisation required often etc

Last of Us HAS THE GREATEST deepest combat gameplay of any combat game ever. Never played combat that intense and dynamic before

Ive been gaming since the NES era and The Last of Us is the greatest game I have ever played.

The Last of Us was special from a gameplay point alone.

Last of Us is a game for the the thinking man because: you could play it how ever which way you wanted to given the tools you had. There was challenge, and a lot of improvisation was key to the combat, which required you to think!

What makes Bayo 2 "so much deeper" or "better from a gameplay point?"

Lets talk about REAL gameplay depth and great gameplay

There were so many dynamic, tense, on the fly moments that could occur when playing Last of Us depending on how you played, choices you made, and how enemies reacted.

Whether you were playing cat and mouse with the enemies - or picking em off one by one in exhilirating fashion as you manuvered around, even using bricks or bottles as distractions etc...

Whether you had to improvise when your cover was blown in stealth and shit hit the fan, and you were able to come up with a different gameplan on the run - or on the go, and succeed - getting into a brutal brawl in a last bid to survive or popping off your gun with a defeaning boom etc....

Whether you were able to frantically lose the enemies when caught durring stealth, "disappear," re-think your gameplan- give the stealth another go and finally have the success you wanted....

Whether you just barely managed to get by an encounter through the skin of your teeth while on low health and low resources....

Etc etc etc

No matter how the cards turned, no matter how you chose to play, no matter what strategies you used, playing the Last of Us was pure gaming bliss ....some of the BEST pure gaming ive ever played or experienced. Last of Us has THE BEST gameplay of any game I have ever played BAR FRIGGEN NONE.

There IS NO other third person combat game that even comes close to matching Last of Us in gameplay... (or even comes close to having as original of a gameplay style as orginal as the gameplay style in the Last of Us is)

To recap, Last of Us has dynamic, intense, brutal, well thought out, sandbox-like combat, that perfectly blends survival horror with action, that is still challenging, and is backed by item resource managment mechanics to boot. What else out there is like it? Tell me!!! There is nothing else out there like the Last of Us.

I think Last of Us has way better over all gameplay and did more for its genre gameplay wise than Bayo 2 is doing for its genre gameplay wise

Look at how every AAA game under the sun NOW has real time crafting and stealth like Last of Us. Developers COPYING Naughty Dog again...another Naughty Dog game setting the trends...proves even more just how revolutionary gameplay in Last of Us truly was.

(Oh and I almost forgot one thing! We still arent done! The Last of Us has such amazing gameplay, that I forgot to talk more about the industry standard Naughty Dog just set in GUNPLAY with the Last of Us too. Just like your bullets had an impact on enemies, bullets would blow you away and stop you in your tracks. Thus you were forced to continue to play smart and approach with caution at all times etc....but in still always a fun way....Now comprae that to a character in Gears of War who eats bullets with no effect like a walking tank. God, Gears of War has the shittiest gunplay ever)

The more you breakdown the Last of Us the more you realise just how amazing and revolutionary the gameplay truly was in the Last of Us.

None of the Last of Us detractors can ever tell us exactly why the gameplay wasnt any good or wasnt doing anything special

They cant explain so reasonably!

Here is the difference, people who actually played Last of Us CAN TELL YOU in great detail exactly WHY the Last of Us was amazing/had superb gameplay

But the other side (the minority of haters) can not even attempt to explain away their controversial opinions regarding Last of Us

That says it all

And dont get it twisted. The Last of Us wouldnt have been what it was without its gameplay. In fact, most of the best moments happened in gameplay, NOT in cutscenes

If The Last of Us is the best the TPS/action-adventure genre has to offer, then gaming has become a sad shell of it's former greatness.

Just gonna throw this out there. I enjoyed Gears 3 way, way more than TLOU as a TPS. I think it's a far better game in everything but it's story, and I have no idea why people think TLOU is GOTY material or top in it's genre. Not to say it isn't really good and well produced, I just don't think it comes anywhere close to the best games of the last generation.

Youve been exposed as a delusional Playstation hating troll countless times now. Just stop

Gears of War has truly shitty gunplay-no hit detection on enemies. Slow clunky tank like controls. Bullet sponge enemies etc.

Last of Us has FAR SUPERIOR gun play to Gears. FAR SUPERIOR. Far tighter. Far more responsive. Far more impactful.

Never mind that combat in Last of Us is far more open, dynamic, and gives you far more options and tools to play with.

Gears is like a game for toddlers in comparion to Last of Us.

Last of Us doenst hold your hand in gameplay or in story, has 1 hit kills, scarce ammo, deep combat backed by item resoruce management gameplay/real time crafting etc.

Last of Us is a game for mature adults and its literal ART too.

While Gears holds your hand at evey turn.Gears is the epitome of the big shallow AAA shooter, and its ugly.

Gears isnt even in the same solar system as Last of Us.

Last of Us is one of the greatest games of all time. It has the best story and characters ive ever seen in a game. It has the most intense brutal dynamic combat ive ever played, the best gunplay etc. NOTHING comes close to the perfect package that is the Last of Us. Last of Us is as flawless as a game can be. NOTHING comes close to it. Naughty Gods indeed.

Hell, Gears doesnt even have better gameplay then Uncharted (the speed and smoothness of Uncharted, plus verticality factor in its combat gives Uncharted its edge over Gears. Gears is just a static boring shallow repetitive pop and shoot shooter from cover to cover corridor to corridor and cover to cover etc)

You havent played a lot of games if you call TLOU deep, or say that it has the best story and characters you have ever seen in a game

Also what the hell are you talking about with gunplay. The reason Gears of War was such a hit was because of the gunplay, even I someone who strongly dislikes the series, admits that Gears of War has good gunplay.

@freedomfreak: He even sent a me a private message full of incoherrent and idiotic insults. Also, damn your sig and avy, I should be studying, not playing Bayonetta 2.

I have no idea what he is talking about bullet sponge enemies in Gears of War. Enemies tend to die rather quick, or at least they do if you know how to play the game.

And as for the combat in Gears, it consists of NOTHING but the same old shallow non sense-pop and shot pop and shoot pop and shoot. Its like a boring whack a mole style of shooting from cover to cover, literally as if on rails. But it has lots of unnecessary gore so xbots claim its "omg so cool." Gears is just awful in every way!

Clearly forgetting the variety of weapons (several weapons dont play well with hiding behind cover shooting foes), melee combat, recoil management, emphasis on flanking, perfect reloads, ect. Wow, I find Gears of War to be very boring, but man someone actually made me defend it.

The only hting I agree with in this post is the whac a mole style thing. But that has been pretty common terminology for a while now to describe cover based shooters. And yes, his PM was full of equally stupid drivel, but this was possibly the dumbest part of it.

It's hard to put down glorious Bayonetta. Nice you're having a good time with it. It's fine as long as you don't completely forget to study.

I agree with you on Gears of War. Like, you don't have to like it, but at least appreciate it for the things it does. And it's funny he mentions the whole "cover-shoot-cover" thing, when he absolutely adores Uncharted.

Dumb comparison. How many awards did The Last of Us win compared to Bayonetta 2? BAFTA? VGX? Writer's Guild?

Let's not forget that there's absolutely no way Bayonetta can ever hope to reach the sales TLOU.

Bayonetta 2 is just another gimmicky action game, while The Last of Us REDEFINED a genre.

@lostrib TLOU flopped, you joking right. What was the flop, please i would love to know.

Cannot even compare the two, totally dofferent games focusing on totally different experience.

It flopped. Got an 8

  • Man, I love TLoU but you are really giving it too much credit when it comes to how complex or smart the gameplay mechanics and level design is. I mean, its good, but "thinking man's game"?

What makes Bayo 2 "so much deeper" or "better from a gameplay point?"

  • Layers upon layers of moves and technics that are offered to you by the hundreds of combinations of items and weapons? Incredibly large list of moves and combat styles that encourage you to either find out which one is the best to dispatch a certain mob of monsters or train your skills until you can turn what would seem to be a counter-intuitive play style to your advantage.
  • And all of these elements are being put to test against enemies that also have varied movesets, hitboxes, animation speeds and weak points.

Lets talk about REAL gameplay depth and great gameplay

There were so many dynamic, tense, on the fly moments that could occur when playing Last of Us depending on how you played, choices you made, and how enemies reacted.

Uhhh, don't take this the wrong way, but you should try out more games then. Compared to shit like the mediocre Uncharted games, yes, its like a gaming Mona Lisa. But Bayonetta dips its feet into Street Fighter 4 tier of gameplay learning curve.

TLoU has good gameplay that might be perceived as something more than it actually is because of its presentation and atmosphere. Because at the end of the day, I can break and exploit TLoU way faster than I can games like Bayonetta or Ninja Gaiden. Thats because those games are lightyears away when it comes to complex gameplay mechanics at work

There IS NO other third person combat game that even comes close to matching Last of Us in gameplay... (or even comes close to having as original of a gameplay style as orginal as the gameplay style in the Last of Us is)

There are plenty. Dozens. Hundreds probably.

To recap, Last of Us has dynamic, intense, brutal, well thought out, sandbox-like combat, that perfectly blends survival horror with action, that is still challenging, and is backed by item resource managment mechanics to boot. WHAT? You are telling me that TLoU is the first game to not let you pause to do shit in order to make things tense? .... Developers copying Naughty Dogs trends?.......WHATWHAT lol

The Souls games (since 2009) force you to be cautious with its real time management. ZombiU (2012) is practically BUILT around making you shit your pants whenever you have to open your backpack to do stuff.

And these are just recent, modern games. This shit has been around since forever. Naughty Dog invented jack shit with TLoU.

So Naughty Dog set an industry standard of gunplay and you use Gears of War as an example of what it was like before? Are you for real?

Games that encourage you not to engage in combat or gunfights and punish you when you do, have been around since forever.

I have The Last of Us AND The Last of Us Remastered. Your claims are batshit insane. You love the game to much and lost perspective.

There is a lot to love, you're just overselling one aspect of the game that by itself wouldn't blow anyone's minds and certainly wouldn't be considered "innovative" by any means. Even if it is enjoyable.

I loved TLoU while I thought the Uncharteds were overhyped shit. So clearly the gameplay was a huge step up. Still though, perspective is important and there is a reason there are so very, VERY few developers doing character action games. They are fucking hard to do and incredibly complicated to balance.

The point about most of the best moments of TLoU being within its gameplay mechanics, I don't think so. Start a thread and ask people what their favorite moment was. I'm 99% sure most will name a cutscene or a heavily directed cinematic/character driven gameplay segment like the giraffes or Ellie in the mall with her girlfriend.

You see to me, when I play Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, I just press buttons and don't think about it. And what do you know? The enemy is dead.

....

No. Stop bro. I was willing to hear out your point of view, but never lead in with the bullshit. You gotta ease into your lies.

Foreplay bro.

I wasn't saying you just have to button mash all the way through. It's not like I played the games on harder difficulties either. I may have been exagerating but my point is, it wasn't the same as playing a game like Dark Souls. I'm not saying DS is better at all, I just prefer it. And of course boss battles are a different story altogether.

Look I wasn't looking out to make the hack and slash genre seem simplistic or whatever, I was just questioning the notion that it was the pinnicale of gameplay. But the point is, there are too many types of gameplay styles to say such a thing.

Ahh, I see. And nothing wrong with preferring Souls games, they're damn fun and everyone has an opinion.

Yeah, that's the thing though, hack and slash can be very simplistic. I can't stand playing games like God of War for example, because often times it does feel like button mashing wins the race. But you start looking at games like the DMC3, Ninja Gaiden Black, Ninja Gaiden 2, Bayonetta, etc.. and these games don't **** around. You'd be lucky to make it past the first enemy by just mashing buttons in NGB and you'll certainly never get past the first level. You're never handed a win, you have to work for it and be on top of it at all times.

On your overall point though, I can agree. It's dumb to say any one genre is the pinnacle of gameplay. I didn't read far enough back in the post chain to see that come up, I just saw your first statement about pressing buttons and was like **** this shit.

When I think of the best gameplay I've experienced though, it covers a wide variety of games and only a couple of them fall into the hack and slash genre. Stealth games, platformers, tps, rts, fps, rpg, etc.. just about every genre has some games that nail the gameplay aspect.

I sincerely doubt that 130 people on SW have played both Bayonetta 2 and TLOU.

this.

That is why i didnt vote.... apart from being a terrible comparison.

Is FreedomFree just gonna throw in TLoU in any comparison?

How much you wanna bet he will do a TLoU vs Smash Bros

Mayonnaise. I can't eat TLOU. I mean, I can, It just wouldn't work as well on a sandwich. Plus the internal bleeding from Blu-ray bits makes it unideal.

After playing Bayonetta 2 for 3 hours today I'm enjoying it a lot more. I'm still flabbergasted at the praise TLOU got. Narrative was great, gunplay was mediocre to clunk but the AI is some of the worst in any video game I've ever seen.

Here is a crazy thought. They are BOTH amazing games in their own right! Everyone is going to have an opinion, but to shoot down others because they disagree with you? Grow up. I love the Zelda series but if someone dislikes or even hates it, who gives a damn? All that matters is that I enjoy the said title, whichever it may happen too be.

Can't make Potato Salad with TLOU. Or a fantastic sandwich. Mayonnaise wins.

@jg4xchamp: Thats what TLOU is. just finished the game. It is one of the best i have ever played or experienced in my 20 years of gaming across many platforms.

Its funny that there is a lot of Xbox fans here saying Bayonetta without actually playing it, same goes for votes.

@lostrib TLOU flopped, you joking right. What was the flop, please i would love to know.

Cannot even compare the two, totally dofferent games focusing on totally different experience.

It flopped. Got an 8

If a score lover than 10 means flop to you, maybe you should stop gaming and find other interests ;)

maybe you should understand the meaning of a "flop" here on SW before commenting
