For me it's Celda since I only got around to playing it this gen on Wii and turns out to be mah favorite Zelda and in need of a sequel based around the big blue - loved that sailing dontchaknow. :P

SecretPolice

Phantom Hourglass is a direct sequel to Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks is still in a way a direct sequel to WindWaker too.

[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"][QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"] This is why I don't take Nintendo fanboys seriously. They think a score compares one game to every other game regardless of platform.SaltyMeatballs
 Dude platform has nothing to do with it. There were some serious design flaws with both DS games, far worse than any of the "filler" found in Skyward Sword.

Like what? People made a big deal of PH having a dungeon you had to re-visit, but there were checkpoints you never had to start from the beginning, it really wasn't as bad as some people made it out to be.

actually you had to treck through the entire dungeon every time to visited it. There were a couple of shortcuts you could take by using items you got in the main dungeons, but it was still tedious as hell. Spirit tracks sort've fixed this, but the train is probably the worst method of transportation I've ever experienced in any zelda game.

It has been a while since I played, but I remember there being checkpoints, maybe it's the shortcuts you mentioned. It was never too tedious, people made a big deal. 90% of the game was doing other stuff and going other places.

No handhelds for me atm so make a WW type sequel for Wii U and I just may bite. :o :P

Another big problem is that the dungeons were really weak, espeically by zelda standards.

I know handheld games are supposed to be simpler, but the oracle games and even minish cap both had more complex dungeons.

The bird is actually pretty easy to get used to, and it's even fun once you get the hang of it.

HELL YEEEES, SON!!! Go PH!!!! Your time to shine is here.

Hey guys, you can trust Gamespot...no really. SS is an embarresing attempt at surpassing the brilliance of Phantom Hourglass.

SS is trully a bleh Zelda game that deserves to be ranked below every other one so far. Believe me!
Its right at home next to games like Need For Speed Run (7.0), Spyro Adventures (7.5), Kinectimals (7.5), 007 Bloodstone (7.5) and many other 7 ranked time wasters. Yup - Post sponsored by CBS Interactive Inc. All rights reserved

This happens to a lot of franchise on GS. EX.

Pokemon

- Yellow = 8.9

- R/B = 8.8

- G/S = 8.8

- D/P = 8.5

- FR/LG = 8.4

- Crystal = 8.4

- R/S = 8.1

- HG/SS = 8.0

- Platinum = 8.0

- B/W = 7.5

- Emerald = 7.5

MGS

- MGS4 = 10.0

- MGS2 = 9.6

- MGS GB = 9.4

- MGS: PW = 9.0

- MGS: PO = 9.0

- MGS3 = 8.7

- MGS = 8.5

How many people here would say MGS and B/W are the worst games in their series?

I don't think a .5 difference makes a game the "worst" in the series.

According to Gamespot, at least.

  • The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess- 8.8/10
  • The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass- 9/10
  • The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks- 8.5/10
  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword- 7.5/10

Lol Gamespot

charizard1605
No, but it is actually way better than anyone gives it credit for, and easily the most casual friendly (in a good way).

I agree, I love the game. One of the most fun games I have ever played. Better than Twilight Princess? Heck no.

So you're just going to keep ignoring the hand held vs console argument? Cause that's a big part of why PH scored so high. The first Zelda on the DS using touch screen nonsense blah blah blah critics suck it's wang and here come the 9's. Then with Spirit Tracks they wake up and smell the rubees.

Or maybe, they actually liked Phantom Hourglass. Shocking, I know. Also, your argument makes no sense. In your own words, a 9 is a 9, a 7.5 is a 7.5, just accept that and leave it at that. At least be consistent with your own posts.

But Spirit Tracks WAS a step down from Phantom.

***for the record I had ZERO problem with the dungeon revisit thing. In fact I am surprised to hear so many people had a problem with it.

Wow, Bread is feeling the rage these days. On topic, I think we can all snuggle down and admit that Tom McShea was trolling with his 7.5. The rest of the scores are fairly arbitrary. ...still, temple of the ocean king can go suck some balls.

I think PH was a pretty innovative little title. It had some truelly fantastic elements to it(including Linebeck!). Spirit Tracks is the same. It improved on the temple of the ocean king quite a bit while still keeping with the formula PH had set up. Both games are deserving of being known as some of the better handheld titles this generation.

That said, they still lacked the magic that is in the best of the best Zelda games. Spirit Tracks more so imo. Partly because the novelty of the controls had worn off(not that they aren't excellent) and partly because the train made exploring and travelling very very tedious compared to the boat. And that's saying something.

The single player mode was so "meh." Truly disappointing.

Although I strangely found the Wifi mode pretty enjoyable...

That isn't a fair comparison. You are using the same logic that Tom used in his review, which isn't correct in reviewing a product. Spirit Tracks followed the same design as PH, but did much less as a product. If I were to recommend a Zelda on the DS, it would be PH. With SS, there isn't anything else like it on the Wii, which makes is review all the more questionable. Same goes for a lot of these negative Mario Kart reviews. The reviewer is assuming that the purchaser has played every version in the series.

It actually may be. I was thinking the other day that it and Majora's Mask are the only two Zelda games that really showed any signs of evoloving as a series

Couldn't even finish Phantom Hourglass. And I love me some Zelda.

PH was a good game, boss fights were a blast though those tid bits with the Phantom Hourglass were incredible boring and was just padding to the game. It was far better than Spirit Tracks. I wonder why PH gets a lot of hate here for.

Even though I generally prefer 2D Zeldas to 3D, gonna have to disagree with this. Phantom Hourglass is a good game alone, in its own right it just doesn't hold up with the rest of the series imo.

The Phantom Hourglass sections you mentioned is the reason for the hate. The rest of the game was great, but the Temple of the Ocean King just killed the pacing so much. I would have a ton of fun in dungeons, beating the great bosses... until I realized it meant another trip to the Temple of the Ocean King. IMO, Spirit Tracks is miles ahead of PH, it fixed the pacing problems and had alot more to do.

[QUOTE="DSmon"]

This happens to a lot of franchise on GS. EX.

Pokemon

- Yellow = 8.9

- R/B = 8.8

- G/S = 8.8

- D/P = 8.5

- FR/LG = 8.4

- Crystal = 8.4

- R/S = 8.1

- HG/SS = 8.0

- Platinum = 8.0

- B/W = 7.5

- Emerald = 7.5

the point I was making is that more people would say that B/W is a better game compared to R/S and D/P, but yet it scored less. My point was more prevalent with the MGS games where the general consensus is that MGS and MGS3 are the favorite among fans, yet they are the lowest scored ones. And pokemon yellow was indeed a very good game.

Phantom Hourglass was a very fun game. The only thing I didn't care about was the random treasures. But SS and Twilight Princess were better IMO.

PH was pretty much the most innovative zelda tittle made... this whole thread is just a proof of how dumb zelda fans are for just asking nintendo to give them more of the same.
