[QUOTE="mrmusicman247"]Next thing you know Cataclysm will get a 7.0... Kashiwaba

I bet GS doesn't have the balls to underrate a game from from Activision :P.

Guitar Hero?

the game looked pretty bad from the get go, not surprised by the score.

How did it look bad? It looked promising.

It did look bad from the start. It looked very dated--like a late N64 title/Dreamcast/early PS2 bar-bones platformer...with a tacked on wiimote bonus. I stated it earlier that I really think this game was pulled from the grave, go as far back as the N64s time. Possibly gamecube, though.

I guess it needed PS3 graphics and MOVE controls.

I don't mean from a resolution aspect, but more so the the level design. Everything in the game looks so bland, as if it was an older generation game that had to limit its scope because of limited hardware. And I'm not saying the wii can't produce a game with good scope, because it can--SMG2. Epic Mickey looks like its running on the original Rayman engine.

Expected this game to score AA. That footage from Nintendo's conference looked very promising.

Extremely dissapointing. I must say, I wasnt really feeling the gameplay footage I saw the other day with Spector. Unfortunately, the price will probably never drop too.

Remember when all that concept art was posted around? It looked like it had great potential. I was excited to see what kind of twisted direction they would take Mickey. I wonder why they didn't stick to their guns and go Tim Burton on us. Were they scared of alienating their target audience?

Then the in game screens got realised, and it was a huge disappointment, everyone knew it looked like crap to be fair. It's such a shame, it looked like it could of been something unique.

I'm not surprised it turned out crap.

You know what it means. The early hype for Epic Mickey was crazy. The designs, characters, the setting, etc. everything looked EPIC. Then the gameplay was shown, and still fans hoped for a solid AAA game. Now that it's released, it received a 6.0 on Gamespot (This is Gamespot Forums, we use that score). Compare that to the early hype and promise the game had.

People only use GS's score as law for the juvenile penis-waving FLOPlol game (see GT5 thread).

Outside of that stupid SW tradition, there is no reason to disregard the 8s and 9s this game is also getting elsewhere. Lets not forget that Gamespot's score is way below the average score this game is getting.

And this is a SW hype thread. SW Hype threads exist solely for the SW Hype/Flop metagame. Therefore trying to bring other scores into it, now that it has flopped according to SW Hype and GS score, is just damage control.

It is 3rd Party the price will drop. The only games that don't drop in price are 1st Party titles or some Square-Enix games because Square-Enix charges more money for DS titles then Nintendo.

So we cant even talk about other scores? For all intents and purposes, yes this game did flop on SW. But you cant let one person's opinion on the game dictate its quality, especially when this game is getting very mixed reviews. Some are praising it and some are saying its just fair. You have to take into account other's opinions in judging any game.

@tomarlyn Oh I'd love to hit the trees too... I'm loving that we're past NDA time and I can call all this garbage for what it is. Epic Mickey is wonderful proof that if you throw money, big names and "talent" at a stupid project, you still wind up with garbage. There's finally a videogame equivalent to Battlefield Earth out there, it's great, except in 20 years people are going to still think Epic Mickey was a colossal piece of garbage, while there are bound to be some Battlefield Earth midnight showings out there somewhere for the "why is this movie so purple" midnight theater crowd. - Seriously, I'll go for hours, this game is garbage. Can we get Sonic in on this too? Can we just start pointing out why this "super franchise gaming" crap NEVER, EVER WORKS? Y'know what's worse? This crap has been done before, every *freaking decade* people who need to stay the hell away from gaming come marching in telling the gaming industry how to make, market and package games. Screw 'em. To the highest degree. Remember 1982? No? Well these people are the reason consoles *went away* until Nintendo showed back up. - Gah, get me a lighter we're burning the forest. subrosian
I was born in 83 so no I don't remember sorry :( I do suspect however that Warren Spector turned up at Disney with his concepts and they politely said ''sorry Mr Spector but this is Mickey Mouse on the Wii, kids don't dig mature and moody''.

Disney was the one who pitched the Epic Mickey idea to Warren. But nice try.

Also, most of what was on the concept art got into the game. Creepy looking animatronics, dystopian landscapes and NPCs who keep trying to make someone remember them so they can get a heart and escape from the Wasteland, etc...

Game is pretty bleak as it is, anymore of it and the source material would've been completely disrespected and parodied.

ANYHOOO, gotta appretiate the love that went into making these amazing set pieces...

Damage control? The game got a terrible score here, theres nothing to DC here, its done.

But considering that we were talking about the quality of the game, other reviews and impressions are naturally brought up into discussion

I finally just had a chance to read the review. It was entirely negative. So I must ask, if this game got a 6 and is pretty bad according to the review, then why does Gamespot use a 1-10 scale? The review almost made it sound like the game was a 4 or 3, yet it gets a 6? Essentially anything under a 6 a really bad game and not worth playing so why even use the 1-5 ratings? I feel like with their system the scores 1-5 could all be merged into one score. This scoring system is so busted its disgusting.

Part of the blame goes to compilation sites like metacritic.

I really don't know what to say here. A 6.0 with an almost completely negative review is boggling my mind right now.

Lucky for me I get a chance to try it out before I buy it...and even at that I'm still planning on a purchase. Some playtime will tell me the true tale, but I'm really having a hard time swallowing Gamespot's review on this one.

Or maybe I'm just in denial.:P

I don't see why you guys are so wary of this game. Most of the reviews are 8+, one or two bad reviews shouldn't kill your expectations.

November has been insanely weird for boththe Wii and Ps3. Sonic Colours Wii scores an AA which is unexpected by the majority of the people, but I predicted that it would score this, GT5 flops hard with an AAE and Epic Mickey flops hard with a score way below an A. I feel sad for all the games that flopped this month.

where did this unrefutable fact of life come from?Thunderdrone
Me. Hence why it's irrefutable. - You can argue and scream all you'd like, Epic Mickey will never be remembered as anything more than the colossal failure that it is... in ten years no one will praise the game. The mark it will leave on history will be a bargain bin and a general "huh? Never heard of it". Mediocre platformers were a dime-a-dozen in the 16-bit era, I could easily rattle off 200 games you were guaranteed to have been exposed to if you were a child in that era that you will have to Google search just to try and claim you remember. - And that's the point. This one is nothing special. If you happen to like it, well there's no accounting for taste... someone buys Sam's Club Cola too, that doesn't mean they're competing with Jones soda, y'know?

Disney was the one who pitched the Epic Mickey idea to Warren. But nice try. Also, most of what was on the concept art got into the game. Creepy looking animatronics, dystopian landscapes and NPCs who keep trying to make someone remember them so they can get a heart and escape from the Wasteland, etc... Game is pretty bleak as it is, anymore of it and the source material would've been completely disrespected and parodied. ANYHOOO, gotta appretiate the love that went into making these amazing set pieces...

What do you mean nice try? You seriously need to get off your high horse and stop demonising. I was giving my opinion why I think it didn't live up to the original concepts everyone saw, your little pictures don't prove otherwise. Moving on... I'm sure Disney got what they wanted and Spector can be pleased with himself, even though it is obvious by all definition a mediocre game that was massively overhyped.

Nope. This was all Disney's idea, and they hired someone they could trust, like Warren Spector, to do the project. All the problems of the game came during production, not during conception.

I thought the game looked pretty stupid to begin with so I'm not surprised at the six it got.

I played the Demo at Walmart.

  • The Game Reminds me a lot of the Old Platformers from the Playstation and N64 Age.
  • It's tough to aim at certain spots with the Paint & Thinner at some points but they're not impossible to get.
  • The Cinematics and overall Artstyle and Graphics are quite Impressive and probably one of the best in the Entire Wii Library.
  • Don't know why you can't kill an Enemy with just a Spin and a Kick or a Jump like in Mario Galaxy. You might as well just kill the thing with the Thinner or make it to a friend with Paint and only use the Jumps and Spins as a last resort.
  • No Voice Acting but you get a Familer Grunt associated with a Character kinda like in Banjo Kazooie and from what I got from the Demo the game looks like it's more aimed at Kids, So I mean come on, It's Mickey Mouse.

and that's what I got from the Demo.

So the Score that it got I can see where it comes from.

  • The Overall Gameplay feels dated.

Although in my opinion the Game's Controls are fine, it just FEELS dated,

Kids won't even notice the problems. Its not the game people thought it might be.

After seeing the actual gameplay at E3, I have no idea why anyone kept hyping Mickey Mouse in a humorous lollipop dreamland with a halloween filter and some throw-backs to Disney heritage. None the less, the concept art does not match the final product. This is the case with most games but its blatantly obvious production couldn't meet expectation on the Wii.

to be fair..... expectations were matched, its not about a more powerful system. if you read the GI cover of this game before it was changed it was looking exactly like the concept art, bu then disney changed it.
