This is very interesting news. I really want to know what you unlock after getting 120 stars.

The Game Informer review seems to hint that there may be 240 unique stars. I may be reading into it too much but ehh...
Super Mario Galaxy 2 throws something new at you nearly every single level - and with over 240 stars to collect, that's no small feat. [Issue#206, p.94]

[QUOTE="Sandvichman"] You would stop posting at a community, reading all the news and so on, just because the reviewer in question didn't rate the game you haven't played yet AAA?Bigboi500
I would stop posting, I would probably still come here to read the news and such though. There is no question that this game is going to be one of the best games I have ever played, so whatever score it gets here doesn't matter to me since I find scores irrelevant to my judgement of a game. I'm just saying for SW purposes, that this game deserves AAA.
Agreed. I don't care about scores one way or the other either, but I would find another gaming site to spend my time with if the game gets robbed here. It's not just about SMG2 either, GS has really dropped the ball in the Wii department by not reviewing great games like Rune Factory: Frontier and Sukura Wars: So Long My Love.
It doesn't make any sense. ''baww my game didn't get a super high review so no i'm leaving''[QUOTE="Thunderdrone"][QUOTE="kontejner44"]NeoGAF. No, i'm not confused. Oh and even IGN is better than GS in terms of Nintendo coveragespeaking of coverage is GS even gonna make a launch center for this game? Or do they just not give a crap?I'm interested to know which site you will go to that actually has in-depth Nintendo coverage

Wow you guys are really jumping to conclusions. Why is everyone bent out of shape so much before a review is even posted? :?
Your (meaning you guys) conspiracy theories of GS being biased are a little ridiculous. The game will get what it deserves (most likely a 9) so stop fretting.

we'll see when the review is posted. If i had to guess, i'd say that SMG2 wont begetting a 9 here. They will praise the game like every other site has so far, then keep it below the 9.0 mark for being a sequel.ThunderdroneMan, you are so so bitter. Jeeeeeeez. Your like a Thunderdrone scorned. :P And honestly, what affect do their scores have on anything? Sure throngs of fanboys will scream flop, but every platform has had huge flops this year. Doesnt mean theyre not great games.

huh? Did i sound bitter?
I was being honest, i think it will be praised but have a lower score than SMG because its a sequel instead of something that reinvents the genre again. You guys where talking about scores and i just shared my thoughts on what might happen here at Gamespot regardless of my opinion on that kind of mindset.
I'm not gonna rage over whatever they end up giving it.
Yah do come off a bit bitter. jg4xchamp
Hell, i'm gonna quote my post again because i'm failing to see all this bitterness you guys speak of:
"If i had to guess, i'd say that SMG2 wont be getting a 9 here. They will praise the game like every other site has so far, then keep it below the 9.0 mark for being a sequel."
Where am i fuming here? Isnt it a reasonable prediction considering how GS generaly reviews and scores games?
You guys must be blending my posts with those who are threatening to react in one way or another if it scores bellow a 9.0, 10 or whatever.
Only rant i gave in this thread was about Gamespot's Wii coverage and yeah, its awful.
They are always late and dont even bother reviewing certain games like Rune Factory Frontier. Its hardly a sensationalist observation and if smaller websites, blogs and forums do it, this one ("home" to thousands of members and paying subscribers) has no excuse not to.
If i had to guess, i'd say that SMG2 wont begetting a 9 here. They will praise the game like every other site has so far, then keep it below the 9.0 mark for being a sequel.ThunderdroneThey could still give it a 9.0. Besides this doesn't look like a "more of the same" sequel at all :)

The fact the developers created new stages and features (more than 90%) that did not appear in the original Galaxy would negate the fact that it is "more of the same." This is not Super Mario Galaxy 1.5, and the developers had put more than two years of effort into Galaxy 2.
To the people arguing if it will get 8.5 or 9.0, just think of GOW3. It is kind of in the same position as Galaxy 2, yet it still got a 9.0.
I'm waiting for reviews and hoping thats the kind of stuff that ignites these hype threads around here. If it doesnt work i'm gonna have to use my l33t skills and derail this thread again :PMan there's hardly anyone here.
Where the hype at yo?

I know it's not more of the same, maybe you misread my post?Okay so, here's what i've managed to gather from Gameinformer's review:
+ "Delivers rock solid, clever and extremelly challenging platforming"
+ "This looks good enough to make me wish the Wii could output true HD"
+ Review states that there are 'over 240 stars' to obtain
- It took the reviewer no less than 4 hours to grab one star, which frustrated him.
- Some motion controls are suposedly "extremely poor". According to some magazine readers the terrible controls he speaks of are the ball rolling segments also found in SMG1.
I'm not complaining -- I'm just saying a lot of complaints Wii games get (not SMG2 specifically, but in general) aren't even issues. It's because those people in general don't play the Wii much. Like I said, the ball rolling stuff in SMG was never an issue and the complaint about it taking 4 hours to get a star might be a negative to the reviewer and thats fine .. to me it's not a complaint and it's actually a good thing.^^ Wow the guy cant have any complaints about the game?
They gave it a 9.25, that aint good enough for ya?

Game Informer and scores have no meaning, especially when combined together. Yet its happily put in there at the top of the hype thread as a positive score.....^^ Wow the guy cant have any complaints about the game?

Well since none of us have played it, I think its wrong to start assuming that SMG ball rolling = SMG2 ball rolling. They did say they were making the game harder, and maybe some of the ball rolling stuff is frustrating and annoying. When there's only a couple of reviews out atm, you make due with what you have.

I doubt it'd be different, if anything like you said the game is harder, so the levels are probably more difficult, not the actual control mechanic being different, which again is fine.
Personally I thought the controls for SMG were perfect, as for other Wii games. I would disagree with haziq completely. There are plenty of games that get knocked for questionable control schemes that deserve it. jg4xchamp
Oh no, a lot of Wii games that get docked marks for poor controls deserve it -- What I was referring to we're games that I thought the controls were a non-issue but some reviewers thought they were terrible.
The thing with motion controls is that a lot of games do it poorly and a lot can pull it off well. More often the case is they turn out bad.
Easier levels can mitigate a control issue. Assuming for a second that some of the ball levels got more challenging.jg4xchamp
Definitely, but if that's the case the problem here would be the level design, not the controls.
If they are exactly the same as those found in SMG then they are perfectly fine so i'm assuming that something changed control-wise to warrant the "horrible motion controls" comment from this reviewer.

yes and no. I mean yes level design dictated the control complaint, but it might also be equal parts that during an easier level the lack of precision or lack of response from the controls went unnoticed. Again I doubt it, because I genuinly think Gameinformer sucks :P, but might be a valid point. Doesn't bother me either way. Super Mario Galaxy had it's fair share of bad levels here and there, but the godly levels made up for in spades. That Manta Ray surfing level is still awesome. So simple, tons of fun, highly replayable for the fun :D[QUOTE="h575309"]Wow the guy cant have any complaints about the game? They gave it a 9.25, that aint good enough for ya?Shinobishyguyit seems weird that no one complained about the ball rolling segments in the first game...so why now?I know some gamers complaigned about it but not any reviewers I loved the Ball Rolling segments of the game but they were always the most challenging but they were also my favorites.

it's probably only like what? 1 or 2 stars?
eh. i dont live in america but as far as i understand it gameinformer is the worst magazine you guys have it's a front for a terrible videogame retailer (gamestop) and they're as corrupt/retarded as they come. an 8.5 for lost planet 2? a 7 for monster hunter? seriously? poorly written brochures for little kidsbenbeckmanThey get some nice exclusive previews, but yes, the reviews are pretty heinous.
Speaking of GI, here's one of the worst reviews ever written....ever!
GAMINFORMER: "The art and combat are killed in their tracks by the game's downright shameful dialogue" 60%
Lowest review in Gamerankings
Wow that sounds so Wii-casual to me. 4 hours is not realistic, it's the reviewer not being used to the controls. Try giving the Wii controler setup in a game that uses IR / motion to someone whos a gamer but have not touched the Wii and you'll see. I recently played some SMG and actually played a ball level. It was easy, I collected coins / extras just to make it challenging lol it works fine. It's Nintendo, which means the controls are either as good in SMG2 as in 1, or better, not worse, unless there's framerate issues which I doubt are significant enough to cause this. I'm just surprised that the score is so high, despite "faulty / frustrating controls", awesome. It would be a shame to give this a 9.0 GS.
Hey, i like SPM D:
Anyhoo, heres another good one...
Silent Hill Shattered Memories
GAMEINFORMER: "Shattered Memories' frustrating control flaws and dull pacing make it a hard game to recommend.(...)Mysterious calls require you to lift the Wii remote to your face like an idiot, effectively annoying anyone in the room with the noises its tinny speaker produces"60%
