yes we get it, there is a secret compartment in the machine that Sony must unlock to release more power. Both systems will get better, you chose sides and you fail.deathtoallgods

Someone forgot the Wii.
No, people around here just don't care about it.Because it owns their conole on a monthly basis?

As gamers, we should ignore sales not games.the 360 is just about maxed out, and unless I see concrete evidence of 360 titles vastly outstripping the current productions in 2009 and beyond, I think the conclusion is clear.jakarai
Well we have now seen R2, Motorstorm2, the latest from White Knight Downgrade, and the two trailers last night from Uncharted 1.5 and GoW 2.5
And it would appear to me, that unless I see some concrete evidence of PS3 titles vastly oustripping what we have seen so far and the trailers for what is coming up in 2009 and beyond, I think the conclusion is clear :)
Well 08 was the PS3's year in terms of games and sales (I think). 2009 is looking like it may be a repeat. I doubt that GoW III is coming out any earlier than March 2010 though, so people should stop including that as a 2009 exclusive-Sniper99-
Latest NPD states the 360 has outsold the ps3 in america this year, as for the rest of the world I dunno...I know the UK have been favoring the 360 lately...japan its still in a distant 3rd...but gaining small bits of ground.
In terms of games... Game rankings and Metacritic place the 360 and PS3 pretty much neck and neck....with the PS3 having a slight edge with its exclusvies (About a 2-3% differance between the hightest scores of the big name games).
Its been an excellent year for the PS3. It came from being an bottem feeder in 2007 to becoming a serious competitor in 2008. But thats not to say the 360 didnt have a brillient year as well. everyone wins this year! i say bring on 2009 and its wealth of new games, both ''sides'' will not be dissapointed. :P
Ugg, why do you have to put yourself out there like that. The PS3 was suppose to prove it's power and strength in 07 and 08. Not saying it's bad, just that the 360 has managed to outlast every year the PS3 was suppose to own everything hard.

[QUOTE="Verge_6"][QUOTE="jakarai"] Gears of War and Gears of War 2... not much difference between the two.... enough said....jakaraiThere isn't much of a difference between Motorstorm and Motorstorm 2, but, of course, that doesn't apply to the PS3 because of some bizarre, nonsensical loophole or a blatant double standard. There is no other excuse. I used those two because they are the best looking Xbox 360 games and no other games come close. PS3 on the other hand has Uncharted, Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5 and God of 3 in the making. Again, no excuse. Saying a console is maxed out due to a sequel of what was once hailed as the best looking console game not being leaps and bounds better is more than confounding. It's depressingly illogical. Also, God of War 3? Yeah, from what we've seen, that's a FINE testament to graphical prowess.

Maybe we'll see a new version of the real time weapons change and giant enemy crab in 2009 also.

God of War 3 trailer looked awesome. If those were realtime graphics then that means it rivals the CG of God of War 2 from last generation. That's an incredible feat if you ask me.

Gears 2 was NEVER meant to make the visual breakthrough its predecessor was, so you trying to make it an example of the "maxing out" of the 360 is moot. You say it's unlikely third party devs will be able to make better visuals, when there are games like Alan Wake and RE5 doing just that? I'm impressed...that's quite a feat on your part.

Xbox is going into its fourth year and Goew is its best offering and like I said no other game comes close. Epic has made two exclusive games for the 360 that push it so I think I make a valid point. Only god knows what Alan Wake looks like on Xbox 360. Have you seen the latest Resident Evil 5 screen shots? Character models look superb but environments look meh.
Those of you who remember the early days of the PS2 will remember the ongoing joke amongst those who didn't like the console. It went something like, "oh yeah, where's all that 'hidden power'?" They said this because Sony promised the system was capable of a lot more than the launch titles presented, and obviously, the likes of God of War II, Final Fantasy XII and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater can't really be compared to the likes of Summoner, Tekken Tag Tournament and TimeSplitters. It's like comparing two different platforms, really, which essentially verified Sony's claims. However, most just remember that old joke, and were quick to apply it to the PlayStation 3. Of course, PlayStation consoles are notoriously difficult to develop for initially, so the jokes endure but typically, Sony has the last laugh.
And now that we're entering the third year of the generation, is it now time for the PS3 to separate itself from the Xbox 360 in terms of visuals? Speaking strictly in regards to raw power and potential, the PS3 has the definite edge, but the question has always been: "can the developers even tap into it? Can they take advantage?" Well, let's just say this. We've already sampled the Killzone 2 beta and early single-player build. We've seen what Heavy Rain gameplay looks like. We've heard David Jaffe rave his head off after seeing some of God of War III. Uncharted 2 will look amazing (as did the original), and is anyone really expecting anything less than a graphically astounding presentation in Gran Turismo 5?
First of all, I really don't see anything in Microsoft or Nintendo's 2009 lineup that can compete with these exclusives next year, but for the sake of this piece, I'm specifically centering on the graphics. Thus far, the argument can rage- Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and LittleBigPlanet vs. Gears of War II, Halo 3, Left 4 Dead and other graphically intense 360 titles. Which batch is better? The anal visual freaks could go on for days.
But perhaps the argument dies next year. As was the case with the Xbox and PS2 - everyone had to admit the Xbox was more capable, and typically produced better-looking titles - perhaps it will be time for everyone to concede that the 360 can't compete with the PS3. Many theorize that while the PS3 has a loooong ways to go in terms of potential, the 360 is just about maxed out, and unless I see concrete evidence of 360 titles vastly outstripping the current productions in 2009 and beyond, I think the conclusion is clear. Most developers and analysts said the exact same thing, even at the start of the PS3's lifespan, when it was all doom and gloom.
They said the PS3 will eventually pass the 360 in terms of graphics, and that day may be fast approaching. Let me repeat the list: Killzone 2, God of War III, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Gran Turismo 5. All I'm asking - and it's a legitimate question - is what in Microsoft's or Nintendo's exclusive repertoire can compete with that as far as overall quality is concerned? And what on the 360 can compete where the graphics are concerned?
Honestly, even the most ardent Xbox lover has to admit that things could change drastically in 2009. And remember, I was one of the first to acknowledge the Xbox over the PS2; I bought most all multiplatform titles on Microsoft's console last generation. This time around? I'm thinking not. And especially when talking about the exclusives, it appears to be game, set and match in favor of Sony...

I can't wait until 2009 finally kicks off!
