Disagree. We're seeing full circle migration from PS2 casuals to Wii casuals to Kinect and back to PS4.

It was something like 100m, 26m, and 24m from 2000 to 2005 for approx. 150m console sales excluding DC.

7th gen it was something like 100m, 70m, and 70m by the release of WiiU, but if you isolate 2005-2010, you'll end up with very similar numbers to gen 6.

On a side note, I've worked retail many years including PS2/PS3 era and you'd be surprised how many systems are bought by nana and papa. My granny got us started with NES complete pack(Mario/Duck Hunt/Track and Field) back in 1988. If you're a kid or young adult getting $500 for a system and a game and online isn't easy. Parents sure as **** aren't gonna get the kid the system because the kids are assholes. So granny pays because she is stacked with cash and secretly likes games.

@gamecubepad: You're right to a certain extent. But there were a lot of people that never gave a damn about games before the Wii, and those people are long gone.

100% agree that phones never took anything away from handhelds, but the people that were interested in Wii, were people not necessarily interested in games, but new gizmo's that have the newest bubblegum entertainment. Those people's attention did go to smartphone's.

Let's not forget how ridiculously well Wii sold for a while, then dropped like a led brick. By the time Kinect came around, these people were already moving on.

Interesting side note there, my grandma actually bought me my first console out of the blue, the N64 :) I don't know about a lot of them so much liking games, but rather wanting to get something interesting for their gran' kids.

Yet TLOU was 2014 highest scoring game not on all platforms,it walked over Halo MCC which flopped to and harder,and outscore pretty much any nintendo game as well on meta.

I'd say it was the first time since NES that controls were simple enough for everyone.

We're both right to an extent, and there's certainly a lot of room for overlap. What's interesting is the that market for dedicated gaming devices hasn't seen the hit from mobile and streaming we were all told would happen. Exclusives don't seem to be a big factor this gen, either. I think the average gamer out there is pretty well informed and pretty much knows phones and tabs suck for gaming.

No dude PS3 fans were know for talking about a comeback and is well documented,but the difference was that on Mainland EU and japan the PS3 was king over the 360,so the 360 could not dominate and was little by little catch,the xbox one is losing world wide so there is not way MS can close the gap which each month grows bigger.

MS had to do an ultra killer deal which they never did with the 360 in its first year to be able to outsell the PS4,and still loss world wide.

Now even with a lower price they lose January and are on route to lose February to.

Seems to me exclusives hardly matter to people at all this generation, people are choosing either a ps4 or Xbox because of the controller, past preference, price etc. Man this gen needs to get some games haha.

There are many things that can be done and there are many different scenarios that could happen. Don't presume to know them all. Again, anything can happen. If Sony becomes arrogant with their releases like as of late you may just see people buying more Xbox Ones.

Ori is on PC as well,and the other game is on 360 since 2013,the closes to a game they have is Phantom Dust and that comes on September until that is all about multiplatforms.

Last time i saw a system take off like the PS4 it was the wii and won the generation by a considerable margin,now unlike the wii which stalled after its 4th year the PS4 will not do that all sony systems have long legs.

Seeing as I don't play sales numbers, those don't mean anything to be cause all I'm looking for is the games. For me if you want to talk about dominant that would be the X1 cause they have the games that I've been playing the most. That most likely will change when Bloodborne and Hell Divers come out but I don't give a damn what company sold the most, all I care about is what company is giving me the games and up until now, it's been the X1.

Sony has done a great job of making the PS4 a desirable product. Despite their games not getting the greatest scores, the system itself is selling in droves. They really knocked it out of the park this time with advertising and price point. This is a huge departure from the PS3, which was expensive and had some creepy commercials. I mean, wtf were they thinking with this:
