Ýou lemmings are quite amusing with the whole disc swapping thing you´ve been putting around SW. What´s wrong with disc swapping? Nothing. SO I guess Blu Ray is crap then, I´ll just swap discs.... No no no no no.

What happens when a game is being made like Geow and they fill up the disc, everything is compressed it´s all full and they still have a couple more maps or another level they want to put in? DO you think they put that on another disc? No they don´t they cut it out, very very rarely do we see multiple disc games, it isn´t something dev´s like to do unless it´s something they knew they would have to, or if a game just won´t do without that extra content, most of the time they just forget about it, they´ll charge you 10 bucks for a couple of maps down the line when very possibly they could have put them in the full game but there was no space.

The problem with DVD9 is developer freedom, give the people that make the games we love freedom to make better games! Blu ray helps with that, it IS a MAJOR advantage that the PS3 has, SW needs to open their eyes, is it needed? All you need is love kids that´s completly beside the point. Only in game forums full of 14 year olds would people look down at blu ray, the only thing you can argue is that it made the console more expensive, but that´s personal, as a console the PS3 won with that decision.

I made this thread cause everyone kept avoiding my posts in all the other threads, I hope people will friggen understand that Blu Ray is a advantage not a disadvantage. Imagine if magically all you 360 owners could get blu ray installed in your system and it could be used for games, I´m sure you´d say "no man, I can disc swap"...

the extra $200 in price for bluray to be included is a HUGE disadvantage to mass gamers.... as proven by the poor ps3 sales...

nice try...;)

BR has capacity but what is up with the data transfer speeds. Both have advantages over one another. I think the ideal system would have been DVD9 with HD standard. Just my .02

Don´t try to spin the point pretend it´s another level or some HD cutscene or music or something, that was an example.

Has nothing to do with this thread.

360 games apparently limited gameplay options due to lack of space, but there are still great games. PS3 has tons of space, best games are from launch or Xbox1 ports. Seems relevent.

You think Sony does this for the devs? Sony's notorious for their lack of dev support and thats exactly why devs cant wrap their mind around the horribly architectured hardware just like the PS2..... The opposite goes for MS, whos known for helping devs with problems... You cows think BR is important, but games like Motorstorm disagree....that crap should only be considered half a game....

So one cutscene or audio of degraded quality is totally going to make or break a game. A DVD9 can easily handle ANY upcomming game, it only requires a good deal of compression.

No it seems your talking about dev work and somehow trying to make blu ray look bad I see no connection I´m sorry maybe if you explain better how it´s related.

I don´t care why sony did it, it a benefit, motorstorm was rushed to get to launch, the disc wasn´t full, had nothing to do with blu ray.

The Real problem with DVD9 isnt having to swap discs It's the developers that are wiping the floor with blue ray devs since apparently blue ray devs arent exactly Miracle makers.isnt blue ray supposed to gurantee AAA to all PS3 titles?i mean after all..50GB...that sure is alot to swallow....yet none are taking advantage....

Dude come on is it that hard to imagine a game being made filling up a DVD9 and dev´s having to cut out feautres, music maps, a couple of levels not to make a multiple disc game? I think your trying a bit to hard to see things as you want to see them, DVD9 can hold amazing games, but if you have more space you could get more content = a better game, no it probably won´t make or break a game but it will make it better.

What's with all these disc swapping threads today? I support BR and all, but the countless threads on this issue are stupid.

Is BR necessary as in gaming will end if it isn't used? No of course not. But to argue the polar opposite is just as ridiculous because more space is always better. Whether it gets completely used or not is irrelevant.

For the sake of argument lets say that over the course of this gen say I buy 20 games on the 360 that have downloadable content and each download is $10. Lets also assume that PS3 never has any downloads you pay for. That would mean that PS3 and 360 cost the same to me.

Now last gen I bought downloadable content once it was $6 (halo 2 maps) even if I buy 15 times as much downloadable content the 360 will still be cheaper. Also keep in mind that in many cases downloadable content becomes free after X months.

So as you can see the argument that blue ray is necessary because it saves me from having to buy downloadable content is poorly thought out.

If that did happen, it would be the fault of the developer for not properly putting in enough funding for compression. I mean, in the case of PGR4 with the day and night cycles, thats not even that much data. It could have easilty been fit in. Hypotheticals are useless mate.

The real question is whether the BR format is worth the extra money not whether its necessary for gaming to exist. Personally I agree that the extra space is better but I don't think that BR will be worth the extra money this gen.

Would you like to bet that there will be games on the PS3 that take very good advantage of blu ray? I´ll be happy to bet anything you want. I´m pretty sure there already have been made games that use more space then would fit in a DVD9.

but if you have more space you could get more content = a better game

Thats the point I was making. PS3 has alot more space but, IMO, not better games.

Well think of it this way, imagine if those ps3 games had less space they probably would have less content, they probably would be a little worse.

Actually, all PC games can be streamed from discs like consoles now, so moot point.

All PC games can be streamed without installation? Which game is that?

All games, its a feature of Vista. There are also third party programs for XP.

Alot of PS3 games can't afford to be worse
