[So your claimign that Sony has already won because it has Blue Ray. Ok lol by the time sony starts getting games to their "full potential" It will be way to late and the enxt gen will be around the corner. Im guessing they will leave the PS3 in teh competetion with Nintendos and MS(If they have a new one) consoles

Eddie-Vedder

The Real problem with DVD9 isnt having to swap discs It's the developers that are wiping the floor with blue ray devs since apparently blue ray devs arent exactly Miracle makers.isnt blue ray supposed to gurantee AAA to all PS3 titles?i mean after all..50GB...that sure is alot to swallow....yet none are taking advantage....

LinKuei_warrior

Ofc man Blu Ray = AAA glad were on the same page *sigh*

[QUOTE="wolverine4262"][QUOTE="Eddie-Vedder"]

wrong..try giving my post another go instead of just choosing to read the words Bluray and AAA.:)

Actually, all PC games can be streamed from discs like consoles now, so moot point.

All PC games can be streamed without installation? Which game is that?

All games, its a feature of Vista. There are also third party programs for XP.

Really? Games for Windows or ALL games? Besdies how do I stream games with multiple disks without using Daemon Tools.

[QUOTE="Eddie-Vedder"]

I don´t care why sony did it, it a benefit, motorstorm was rushed to get to launch, the disc wasn´t full, had nothing to do with blu ray.

wolverine4262

BS... you claim its good for devs, but noone has taken advantage of it yet and all it does is increase load times... Devs wont fill it b/c it would cost too much and take too long.... BTW, Motorstorm wasnt a launch title...

Load times lmao you can install the whole game to the hard drive for no loading if you want and devs would rather have more space not trying to figure out how to fit a game into a dvd by compressing the@#$% out of it and cutting features. Not one dev has said we hate blu-ray we don't want more space all i see is devs saying dvd is too small !!

Funny thing is it's only 2007 and dvd is already an issue what happens in 2008 and 2009 ??

I saw the e3 and sony games took a huge leap forward in graphics from last year while the 360 is stuck.Yeah blu-ray has nothing to do with that or the fact that the ps3 has a standard hard drive either right ??

In 2008 when the blu-ray drive price is not much more than a dvd-rom then blu-ray will still be bad right. What happens when multi plats start using more space and taking full advantage of the standard hard drive in the ps3 ??

Face it ms cut corners to get out 1st and it's coming back to bite then in the behind on games and hardware issues.

Would you like to bet that there will be games on the PS3 that take very good advantage of blu ray? I´ll be happy to bet anything you want. I´m pretty sure there already have been made games that use more space then would fit in a DVD9.

Eddie-Vedder

Theres no doubt in my mind that games will come out eventually that use the extra space efficiently, but those few choice games wont justify BR....Most devs dont think about that anyway... they make the game they want no matter how many disks it requires... Oh, you actually think there are games out now that take up moe space than a DVD-9?! Thats Sony PR for ya..

Like I said early, devs dont worry about disk size in game dev... they worry about time constraints..

First off there is no such thing as blu ray devs, devs work with what they can to fit their needs, you think when they have the choice they go with DVD9, and you can´t look at scores and say blu ray isn´t being used, it´s a friggen tool, the score of the game dependes on the dev quality.

you do know that crysis is also a xp game so no it wont be a streaming game and devs cant bank on 3rd party programs...

so it will be 100% an installation game

I haven't seen it become an advantage yet and the 360 is still churning out stellar games.

...also, the disc drive speed is much slower for blurray. disc drives in the 360 scratch discs because it seems like a helicopter taking off in there, which can'tbe good for its overheating issues as well

I´m sorry if you think devs don´t avoid making multiple disced games unless necessary, we won´t be able to argue too well, I have no doubt some games are made thinking of multiple discs, but it isn´t common, most of the time they only plan on using one disc, and when they fill that up I´m sure the choice of adding another disc is often very complicated. Think about it, think of all the 360 games that used up all the space on the DVD, what if that DVD has more space? You think they would still be exactly the same size because devs planned it to have exactly that size? Not to mention if the 360 also had blu ray we would probably already be seeing amazing things done cause it would be used in multiplats also.

That will be a prob... the only game to come close is ME and that didnt have to sacrafice anything... Most other games only take up about half the disk... More size is great, bu you are forgetting that dev times are already increasing with every gen as well as team size and dev costs.... The more time they spend making the game, the more copies they need to sell for a profit... Publishers dont let devs go crazy like that...

I have a hard time believing ME is the only game that fills up a DVD9 on the 360, and how do you know that they didn´t sacrifice anything? Just pure coincidence that it filled up the DVD and nothing else was needed eh?

Well, they said when they first started dev they werent sure if it would fit on one disk (the game is huge), but in the end it worked out.... THe next biggest game is most likely Oblivion and thats only around half the disk....

Well I´m sure you can also imagine there is a very good chance things won´t be added because of lack of space, and do to the fact that they don´t want to make a multidisc game, we can all see games keep getting bigger, it´s natural, it´s been happening since the first game was made.

in time, yes.... right now or in the near future,no way.... Either way, I just cant see a dev turning away from multi disk if its a feature they really care about or something thatll really add to the game.... When you look at a game like Halo 3... Bungie seems to be pouring in the content and features.... Do you really think they are having a disk size problem?

And to WOLVERINE-4262 I´ll get back to when I get home, I´m going to go out and get pissed drunk :D Have a good night everyone o/

the extra $200 in price for bluray to be included is a HUGE disadvantage to mass gamers.... as proven by the poor ps3 sales...

nice try...;)

I have to admit, I am on the side of the PS3 even though i have both a 360 and PS3. As of now, you are right, PS3 games are very lacking. Within the next year, this statement will be completely reversed.

and for crysis dvd disk 1 install disk dvd disk 2 play disk...

And according to gamespotoblivion looked better on the PS3

It works wonders, to have an extra year for developemnet.Ever think of that fanboy?

lol o yeah

I have to admit, I am on the side of the PS3 even though i have both a 360 and PS3. As of now, you are right, PS3 games are very lacking. Within the next year, this statement will be completely reversed.

"teh wait" scenario is old.

How can people still defend Blu-ray in the PS3?

I have no doubt the extra space is useful, and will grow even more useful as next-gen games expand. Thats not my argument, as creative design and compression can make lesser formats just as viable.

Look what Blu-ray has done to the PS3! Five hundred and ninety nine US dollars!! Sony seemed more concerned about getting HD movie players in to houses than a respectable, decently priced gaming system, and sales are reflecting that.

Do you think the 360 would ever have stood a chance against a $400 PS3?

I'm not saying they had to use DVD9. I've heard of other technologies out there that hold more than DVD and are still based on red laser technology, and would not have required all new machinery to press the discs, pushing prices even higher. They could have tried that if they were so concerned about space, but oh yeah... they wanted to push their new movie format.

Come back with something better than "teh wait" scenario, Im tired of waiting.DVD's, as well as the players are cheaper and still mainstream, and will be for a long time, because not everyone is willing to go out and buy a HD or blu-ray player and disks for the price they are at, and the price will not drop for a while.

you guys get to caried away.. i can tell pretty much all of you are fanboys, especially dvd side people.

FACTS:

*wii does not need blu-ray because of real low textures. and the fact that all wii games are much smaller than the rest.

*blu-ray has been taken advantage in few games currently which shows how there isnt a huge gap between ps3 and 360 yet, because games being developed such as mgs4, ut3, killzone have blu-ray to work with them they will all ahve one disk with much better uncompressed audio/video qualities and lengthy stories.

*the fact that the 360 does have dvd holds EVERYONE back, games such as assassins creed, or mass effect, or gta 4 could be longer and could have mroe uncompressed audio/vide/longer game itself. The facts that the 360 has that holds everyone back.

also the fact soemone said that the 360 gets AAA games in response to a blu is needed argument is a horrible statement, not including multiplats, the 360 only has 2 AAA exclusive games, the ps3 will be sure to catch up soon.

-PS360-

1. If Blu-Ray really added length to the story, why are Lair and Uncharted going to be roughly the same length as Gears, plus no multiplayer.

2. Somebody already proved in another thread that the only way the 360 holds back GTAIV is uncompressed audio, since audio takes up the most space anyway. The 360 isn't holding that game back. Dev costs hold games back.

3. Not a single QA tester at Bioware has visited every location in one play through of Mass Effect, sounds pretty damn big to me.

4. The 360 has 3 AAA exclusives, GRAW is a totally different game on the 360, and this has been discussed before.

Thats funny, I don't see this "grain" your talking about, maybe it is because your eyes are blocked by goglles of fanboyism. DVD's are cheaper and Blu8-ray is not needed for gaming, end of story...Im out.
