I have raised this question a few times in OT, asking if The Graphics vs Gameplay debates of the wii/360/ps4 era finally got an answer. And it looks like the answer is, devs can sell us with pretty cinematic games with extremely scripted gameplay. @Pedro brought up a good point in the sony conference that many of the games looked the same. Although I don't agree completely, I do agree that during the con conference we were met with a lot of games with that over the shoulder camera, slow walking main character, treaking through a large world with scenes all around. Almost to the point we were witnessing the world instead of playing in it.
Personally I do not know how I feel about games losing their sense of control. Yes there will always be games that sacrifice that itch of just wild action and adventure off the rails, but so many big block buster titles are movie games right not. Whenever devs start saying "We are largely influenced by FILM"....I immediately roll my eyes. Rockstar has been saying that for years and although they make amazing games, often their efforts into cinematography are hamfisted. Look everyone loves movies, but when im gaming I really want to, you know feel like im playing a game. Not an on rail shooter with more tracks, but still precisely leading me into quick time event to quick time event.
