I've taken it upon myself to reveal unto you all what the true benchmarks of video game quality are this generation. Think of this as an all-knowing guide or database I have granted you, a resource of plentiful information to live by. There will be no Uncharteds or Mass Effects or Assassin's Creeds here; no overrated garbage, but true, unadulterated, destined-to-be classics. Let the countdown of wisdom begin...

Exchange Souls with Mass Effect 2 and Assassins Creed 2 and its a pretty good list.

If we are talking about definitive I think Gears, Uncharted and COD all deserve a spot. Not all my favorite games but definatly definitive.

also, where are the wii games? Xenoblade? Supermario Galaxy? and tho you may laugh...wii fit?

No Uncharted 2,Mass Effect 1 and 2,RDR,SC2 and Skyrim = a fail list for top 10 this gen.

Best shooter ive ever played, Max Payne 3 is the only shooter that comes even close this gen.

If I expanded my list those would probably be on it. Personaly I think Condemned 2 maintained a much better pace and atmosphere than Bioshock did up until near the end. I love RDR but as far as open world games go I think InFamous and Batman AC did it better.

The gameplay is essentially perfection. But everything else is mediocre at best, even the pacing falls apart half way through the game.

How is this one of the best games if only one element is good?

Gameplay is arguably the most important element. I disagree about the pacing. Vanquish was balls to the wall action from beginning to end, and then concluded with one of the most epic end bosses in recent memory.

Most gamers have been brainwashed by the media into thinking certain franchises are more substantial than others. Advertisements, terms like "AAA franchise", numerical scores, etc are basically subliminal messages designed to trick people into worshipping subpar games like Uncharted and Mass Effect. I myself have developed an immunity to these brainwashing tactics used by publishers and critics, and with clear eyes and a full heart, am able to provide an entirely unbiased and objective view of video games.
