Its not me folks, its in the air, nothing is impressive anymore, the HYPE for games died or lives on only through the children, always eager and hoping for the best, us, the old generation that lived the golden era of videogames since the 8bits and all the way up are no longer easily impressed by exploding helicopters, realistic battlefields or fantasy settings with worlds needing saviors, its all as cut and dried as it gets.

I havent played many games recently, but those I have bored me quickly and the ones I truly wish to play arent out yet, mainly The Last of Us and some of the unannounced like Half Life 3.

As I read through endless threads of comments and discussions online and in real life face to face conversations I stumble upon what is looming as an inevitable reality, were growing older and were not easily impressed by simple mundane things like most mainstream video games anymore, especially when they completely seem to lack the slightest effort in innovation, and Im looking at EA, Microsoft , Nintendo and Activision when I say that. Sonys first party developers and a few third parties like valve are the last standing bulwark of honest thrive for creativity and innovation.

The magic I used to feel when I opened a new game from my favorite developer is no longer there and I feel that most of the video game series that were once special to me are degenerating or being defiled for commercial exploitation of the lowest possible level.

I mean, look at new games, look at the vita, WiiU, the industry. Its not that we're nearing the end of the console cycle, its something else.

Well if you lived in the 8 bit era then you got to be in your 30s if not 40s. I know very few people that age with anything more than a passing interest in gaming. Real life gets in the way I guess. I think it will happen to all of us one day.

I agree with you, I'm even cynical about gaming today. I blame the bombardment of game information in the months leading up to release. Nothing is a surprise anymore, reviews can't be trusted and the industry is gliding along with very little to stop it.

I understand what you mean. You said a few things in there that people will read and dismiss what you said as something like, well then stop gaming or whatever.

I think you are totally right. Gamers are never happy anymore. Its not as fun because everybody is just so pessimistic about every game. Even the best games people say, overrated overrated overrated blablabla. Nobody likes anything. And it isn't fun to be in that kind of environment.

e3 has been getting worse and worse every year. Many because no one is really excited about anything.

Remember that e3, 2004, when Nintendo showed off a video of Twilight Princess and the crowd went freaking bananas? Can anyone tell me the last time a crowd went nuts like that just by showing off a game? I don't remember.

I think its because series we like we are given to us too often. Companies too often just say "give em what they want" and make the same game without taking the time inbetween releases to make sure that the next one is a big step forward. Nothing is sacred anymore it seems, companies don't hold back titles for special occasions, or delay games to make sure they are perfect. They just get them out as quick as they can make them.

I'm not enjoying games simply because their stories fail to draw me in. Most of the time, I feel nothing in regards to what is happening on screen. I'm shooting dudes, and it's kind of fun, but that's about as deep as it goes. Storytelling needs to improve, but not in a way that completely limits player agency. I think Spec Ops The Line's criticism of games, in a lot of ways, hits the nail on the head.

1- I am 30 years old. I'm not in my thirties lol.

2- the idea that gaming is for the young is dead. I will be gaming till I die and you can't tell me that I can't

3- this is the eve of a major console launch and a gen switch and so this is where I want to be right now

4-I don't share TC's pessimism. I do think that every time a gen evolved, they lost something good for every great new thing they introduced.

This happens to me as well, but it's usually just slumps. Some game usually comes along and kicks me out of my funk.

I'm in one right now though. As of late, once I turn console on and look at the dashboard, I instantly turn it off.

I think it's just you. Or you aren't playing the right games. In the current gaming market, there is a variety on every platform that is unmatched in previous generations. And with Kickstarter, there is way more on the way. And the quality... dear gourd the quality. Spit polish to a mirror sheen on some games.

Yeah and that was like 2006 right? or 05? Don't remember. But that just goes to show, Game companies don't know when to stop. Halo 4s announcement there may have been like a couple claps or something.. But for the most part the reaction was "Oh look, another halo" because there had been like 4 different halo games inbetween both those, no one really cared all that much. Its a great game, but companies can build up so much more hype if they would just ****ing wait to release games.

I was not trying to be mean. Just sounds like the TC has nostalgia and wont get it back.

1 - 30 years and one nano second is "in your 30s" ;)

2- Never said you or anyone cant but I think in the gaming world thats been around longer than you dont you think there would be some say 50+ year old video game reviewers? Not many of those around is there? They have moved on to reviewing vacuums and lawn mowers.

3- fair enough

4-once again I think that goes back to nostalgia

It was '06. But yeah, I agree. A lot of it is just the fatigue that comes with the end of the gen, though.

For me consoles are getting some dull offerings, I rarely turn on my PS3/Wii/360. The games that I like are being made on handhelds these days.

That too, this generation has gone on waayyy too long. We just need to shake things up. Because this forum, I have to say was much more exciting back in like 06-09 because everyone here seemed more excited about their new consoles, and games etc.. Around 2010 is when things started to die down. The original xbox really only had 4 years in the spot light, while the 360 has been in it for 7 and a new system hasn't even been announced yet. Its kind of crazy, this generation by the time its over could have fit two inside of it.

Eh...not really, you still choose what to play, what to enjoy and what to dislike, the media is filled with corruption, payed reviews, different opinions from reviewers? no sh!t Sherlock...really?In other news the sky is blue...

Honestly, there is nothing different than other gens in terms of "hype" aside from the fact that nowadays we got acces to more infor much more quickly, still in the early days i got hyped by magazines or TV Shows the same way i'm now hyped by websites and videos, nothing has changed, in the end if you don't want to suffer from the never ending spoiler, then stay away, as simple as that.

About the hate and the disscussions and all that stuff...again, really? you realice this is the Internet, right?

I still love exploding helicopters, realistic battlefields and fantasy settings with worlds needing saviors. I have played a lot of games this year and there are still lots of games from this gen I have yet to get to. This gen is as good as its been since the SNES days and definitely way better than last gen.

[QUOTE="ASSISTSNOSKILL"][QUOTE="mems_1224"]I still love exploding helicopters, realistic battlefields and fantasy settings with worlds needing saviors. I have played a lot of games this year and there are still lots of games from this gen I have yet to get to. This gen is as good as its been since the SNES days and definitely way better than last gen.

Something tells me you didnt have gamecube,ps2,xbox last gen This generation blows seriously.

had all 3, this gen is better.
