Hardcore gamers exists. They are playing hard games like Ninja Gaiden 2, Crysis(on hard), and probably many other titles that have attracted a dedicated fanbase. Softcore gamers make threads like this and have mario, kirby, and dbz characters in their avatars. This is SW fact. Threads like this have proved it since the beginning of SW exsistance. Some sheep are execptions, but I haven't seen any in this thread so far.

You are either a gamer or you aren't. Collections, certian selected genres, amount, time spent, or what you play on has any effect on being a gamer, there is no subnaming of hardcore or any other form of elitism or specialization. You either play video games or simply don't.

This 'hardcore' that thrown around is simply an oxymoron of itselfs, gamers don't label themselve anything but gamers.

GTA hardcore? lol. Don't think anyone made that connection. I myself hate the connotation of "hardcore gamer" a lot. It's just a stupid tag to label yourself under. Some people consider hardcore to be people that have played and beaten a good range of games throughout gaming history. Others consider hardcore to be how skilled someone is a a certain one genre, or select few games (mostly online games). Some people think hardcore gamers are people that own a certain system that supposedly has these "hardcore" games on it. The defnition of a hardcore gamer is broken and lost, it doesn't really have a real meaning; therefore rendering it useless.

I don't think the ranting quote from from the TC really hits the nail on the head. Hardcore isn't something to describe bloody games, or violent games, or even games with swearing. Hardcore is just a label used between mostly online gamers that spend vast majorities of their time playing games only. I love games with a passion, and always have, but someone please shoot me if I call myself a "hardcore gamer", it's just pathetic for anyone that has actually been playing games for a long time to use.

harcore gamer - he/she, most likely he, plays games most of their free time. Possibly owns every system, Knows the history of games on every console, played most games regardless rating, played ever game rated high, buys alot accessories for their consoles and handhelds, most likely isn't in system wars, has a huge collection of games.

Problem is you said this "Softcore gamers make threads like this and have mario, kirby, and dbz characters in their avatars." I play FFXI which is one of the most tactical games out there! I use to have Ryu from Breath of Fire 3 as my Avatar and also ken Masters from Super Puzzle Fighter aswell. Really your post dont make much sense. Another defintion of "Hardcore" which is flawed.

I have to Sig this.... There is no such thing as Hardcore gamers. Community cannot agree on what the term "Hardcore gamer" means so by default "hardcore gamer" has no defintion meaning there is no such thing.

Actually, there is a default. We'll just go by the dictionary, in which case a "hardcore" gamer is an excessively dedicated gamer: one who spends most of his/her time on the matter (be it for sport or pleasure--and like it or not, videogaming on the professional level is a competition--otherwise, neither poker nor chess can be considered competitions, and they definitely are).
