I thought you bought a new PC??? but yeah i get that feeling to. Thats why im waiting just before its released to by my new rig. Just so i know if i can run it at max or not. Even though there are going to be updates that will take advantage of better hardware as it comes out.
Ok, so I take it that your not going to play Mass Effect either? Anyway I do have a fancy PC specs sig, but I don't want to use it right now.

is mass effect afirst person gungame? i don't like gun games, can't get into them. you've played one and you've played them all in my opinion. but i suppose that can be said for any genre of game

yes i do, but when i focus on something close to me the view in the background doesnt look like it's been softened. it kind of splits into 2. besides, depth of field simulation seems a little needless to me. i'd rather see a nice sharp background and a nice sharp gun
When you modify your weapon, everything in the background gets a little blurry, just like it would in real life. You'r focus is on one thing. Same thing happens when you aim down a sight with a rifle, Crysis also simulates this effect. I really don't get how this is such a hard concept to grasp. It won't look like that the whole time....

If your going to buy a new PC then you should wait because price drops are going to come again. At least that is what I would do, but if you already have that PC then I think it will good, but then again I don't have the game so don't take my word for it.:)i didn't know what crysis was about. i'd heard the name and that's it. i saw the picture and commented on it, not realising that the blurry background was, infact, depth of field. thensome people (not you) called me a console fanboy because i don;t have a pc good enough to run this game despite the fact i neither want to spend the money improving my pc or buying the game. then we started talking about mass effect, another game i know nothing about other than i think it;s a fps and it has depth of field.

No, Mass Effect isn't an FPS. It's an RPG made by Bioware and has depth of field. Honestly, if you haven't heard of it, you must not be that much of a gamer let alone know anything about Crysis. Depth of field is something your eyes precieve in real life, which is why Crytek added it in their game. It gives a more realistic touch. The screen blurs a little to simulate this. It doens't happen the whole game though. Only when you reload, look down your sights, or modify your weapons on the fly. If you don't like FPS's, then why even comment in this thread? Seriously, why?

i'll cross that bridge when i come to it. bioshock could well be a massive flop, in which case wouldn't make it worth buying. and to say i'm not much of a gamer simply because i don;'t know everything about a game that falls into a genre that doesnt interest me seems a little harsh. i spend my time playing games that are currently out rather than salivating over future releases. and i think the depth of field thing has been done rather poorly. when i try the effect out for myself - focusing on my hand infront of my face - the objects behind my hand kind of go into double vision. the effect in crysis looks as if the people in the background are being viewed through one of those plastic pockets you hand your school project in with. the way i see it there's no point in putting a snazzy feature into a game unless it's done properly and well. anyway, i'm only going on that one screenshot that was shown at the start of the thread.
and does me not being an fps fan exclude me from commmenting on their existense and development progress? i don't think so.
here are some photo's where you can clearly see the effect.
cobrax25
that's in photos. when you do it with your own eyes you see two of whatever's in the background, not a blurry edged image like they;re showing in the game
This looks photoshopped to me and doesn't look as good as other pics. The grass looks extremely real, but everything else looks like garbage compared to other crysis photos.mikasaYou should watch the video.

no you dont.....you focus on a certain object automaticly.....thats why with a pair of binoculars you have to use the focus nob to set the distance you are looking at....
the eye works in a similar manner to a camera....except you eye focuses automaticly.,,,
lol downgrade :P-Soranot really the only reason it looks blurry is because the person is reloading and its focusing on the gun vs the people in the background and it still absoluetly muders anything on your precious 360 just go look at the video posted on ign today it looks killer http://media.pc.ign.com/media/694/694190/vids_1.html

my eyes must nto work properly then because when i focus on my hand right infront of my face the cabinet and sofa at the other end of my room are doubled as well as blurred.
anyway, i watched the video and the field of depth thing looks much better than the screenshot implied

Wrong. Today's digital cameras are even worse at capturing depth of field compared to older analog cameras. But the best of all was the old pinhole camera (just don't move or it will be blurry). Your eye is a millions times better than a camera (especially the one used in the photos above).

On default settings digital cameras don't capture depth of vision. (Worked as a professional photographer for a few months). This can easily be compensated by messing around with the F-stop and random assorted things.

It only does that when your modifying weapons. It makes sense. Because your focus is more on the gun than the surroudings.
It is the same effect they use in Mass Effect. That is the reason why the character models look so nice, yet the environments are blurred when you are having a conversation.NO. The xbox360 has certain hardware limitations, the pc does not.
That is the effect you get when you customize your weapon, because you are looking at your weapon, everything around it goes blurry. Try it some time with your hand. Watch some videos. This effect occurs in some of them when they customize the weaponry.
