I decided to do some PC gaming today .Wanted to try out steam.So I got the all time hermit favorite the Witcher for 15 euro.
I'll give you a very short version. All of this took me half a day counting steam registration game download ect ect.
I start up the game and ofcourse there is some strange glitch (i could see lights through walls (like fires, torches.)
So what do I do?Google it. So I did and found a "solution". I need to do something in a program called nHancer. I get the lastest version but I can't install it cus I need NET framework 3.5 or later.So I get the framework 4.0, install it but nHancer still says it needs framework 3.5 or later (wtf).Ok so... what do I do now ? Get an older version of nHancer.This time it installs.I start up the program and oh snap an... an error, program doesn't work properly.
At this point I'm like **** it. I'm not going to waste anymore of my time and I'm not gonna play a glithced out game.15 euro down the drain.Great.
The only games worth playing on a PC are blizzard games.There is always something wrong with the PC.If its no the game its a program or a driver or whatever. I was used to all this wen I was "PC only gamer" but wen I look back it now its just not worth it.Consoles are some much better.Simple is a GOOD thing.They may lack graphics but atleast you don't waste half a day just to find out your game won't work like it should.
My PC is just for starcraft 2 I guess.

Each and every person is going to perceive a different degree of marginal cost and marginal benefit from PC vs. console gaming, and therefore everyone is going to have their own perception of whether it's actually worth it. Someone for whom those benefits do not outweigh the costs isn't necessarily wrong. They're not necessarily too inexperienced to know what benefits the PC has. They're not necessarily too incompetent to assemble and maintain a PC. They're not necessarily too poor to afford the up-front costs of a gaming PC. Had my new PC for 4+ years and not one issue that couldnt be fixed in a few mins.. maybe PC gamign just isnt for you at all, stick to wii, ps3 or 360 if you cant manage to download, install and play the witcher.
It takes a little whiel to learn pc gaming but if you have the patience its easy and well worth it, destroys console gamign in every way imo (and I own all the consoles this gen).
PC gaming gives you more freedom and custimization. I stil lplay my consoles, but PC gets way more of my time. Not to mention the community is much better then on consoles if you are doign onlien gaming.
PC gamign is easy if you know anything about computers.
Check once a month to see if a new grpahcis drive came out (its nto hard to do this.. nvidia site even checks what driver you need and if you ahve it or not automatically for you), upgrade your graphcis card once every 3-4 years, its not that hard..

Consoles are not an exception when it comes to game updates, and the file sizes are ridiculous especially on ps3, usually exceeding 100mb and can easily go way over 500mb. Then theres also system software updates which can be regarded as driver updates. The time it takes to install an update on console I could easily install a whole game to my pc. It would take 5 minutes for a low-level pc user to learn how to install software, same goes for games. To be honest. There was very little "BIG" stuff on PC to begin with, the platform has always been dominated by small devs and niche games.That said..the fact that "BIG' devs and games moved to multiplat has led to ressurgence of older hardcore pc-centric genres, so I'm not complaining.
Also...this gen pretty much every "BIG" IPs have gone multiplat, not just PC ones.

That sort of stuff does happen with the pc every so often, some times it happens at the worst possible time like the end of a bad day or when you are trying to get back into pc gaming. Do you know what is worse? fixing problems like that for other people so they can play a game :x. I like a healthy mix of console and pc myself, I can't say I own a system which has no merits at all.
They do but they are uniform problems unlike pc which is different depending on os,drivers,blah,blah.I haven't touched a pc game since Dragon Age.At least you can troubleshoot the problem on PC. If you have glitches on a console you are at the complete mercy of the devs to fix it, which may take a long time if at all.
And dont say that they dont have glitches or broken games, because they do.

That's bullocks. 3 days ago I installed both planescape and Just Cause 2. One being a 1999 game and the other a 2010 game. Installed and played, no problems at all.

You know what. I actually don't have the lates drivers for nVidia but it has nothing to do with me not knowing to maintain my PC. I use a 26 inch Philips TV for my PC and I need a custom resolution 1824/1026 so the picture would fill up the screen properly. I need to use the "resize dekstop" option from the nvidia control panel but BIG SUPRISE and BIG FAIL for PCs in general (again). The resize dekstop won't work at all with the lates drivers.I had to downgrade my nvidia drivers so I could use my TV with the PC.
So yeah, don't go around calling people ignorant without having all facts.Ok ? It makes you look... humm.. elites ?

your experience isn't a representation of pc gaming, two particular games worked on your particular set up, I've had issues with recent games that i could play on my console no problem, one being bfbc2, the other being mafia 2... its pretty definite fact that pc's can't be as stable as consoles when it comes to software because of of all the different layers and trying to abstract different types of hardware.[QUOTE="beganoo"]

Well it work when I tried it... that was about 2-3 months ago, but why the 1824/1026 resolution?
Not sure if anyone else has already commented about this since I'm not going to look through all 17 pages in this thread but, I had the same problem. The torch lights showing through the walls was a problem with SLI. I turned off SLI and it works fine. There are ways to get it to work with SLI but, if you want the simple solution and just want to play the game just turn SLI off and use just one video card. SLI seems to have problems in a lot of games since developers don't put much effort in to support since most people don't have it.

when i installed rainbow six vegas 2 it runs like uber trash and -i have way more then needed to run the game ,
its slow, and sluggish , even an old game like nacar racing 3 is slow on the pc , its a newer pc 3 yrs old 2 gig ram nearly a gig of video ram ,
and the rainbow six needs 1 gig, and the nascar racing 3 -pft it needs very little amount , less then a gig,
it still lags ,
and some programs wont run on 64 bit editions of windows but ms support says, all programs should work just fine, whats the heck is up with that
plus when i go to the store to buy games all i see in the pc section now adays is ---sims this sims that , i already got sims 2 and 3 expansions-open for business and the 2 thats included in the sims 2 deluxe,
so i dont see why id buy more pc game if its so darn expensive to get the best specs needed -1.5 gig -which this pc has but agai n its --64 bit and older games do not run well ,

Difference lies in frequency. PC is a frequent thing to get patches, fixes, updates, downs, vista/windows 7 compatibility, etc. Console does get trouble, but in a significantly small quantity.Situations like that are reasons why I game on PC less then I would. Still, a lot of it is my ignorance.

I mean, it couldn't possibly be that there are no console games that getting a PC counter part......like Assassins Creed or The Force Unleased. Realistically, lthere are 3 major gaming platforms: 360, PS3 and PC. I use a 26 inch Philips TV for my PC and I need a custom resolution 1824/1026 so the picture would fill up the screen properly. Well it work when I tried it... that was about 2-3 months ago, but why the 1824/1026 resolution?
I honestly don't know why but wen I use my Philips TV with the PC I need to make the res 1824 1026 or the picture wont fill up the screen prorerly (as I said above).Go figure.
As I said before the witcher is just an example.There are many reasons PC gaming sucks.

There's many reason why console suck and don't suck.
There's no perfect system out there.

The fact of the matter is that PC is an ever-evolving platform. Its potential is almost limitless but with it, comes a certain degree of complexity, depending on how far you wanna go with it. Its also usually on the bleeding edge of tech so obviously, its going to require that extra effort to keep in touch with developments. The cons are that its not as straightforward as the "konsolez" but the pros, if you master the basics, you can do almost anything with it and you actually can fix the problems yourself, without requiring outside help (or service fees). And of course, you have a much superior gaming experience ;) I'm sorry to sound cliche but yes, most of the time the problem lies with you not knowing what's going on. Unless your computer casing actually exploded and your hardware parts went thermo nuclear, the fail usually lies with the user. Boy, do I sound like an "elite" now :D
Outdated drivers and software are the user's fault not the developer's fault. the_ChEeSe_mAn2Especially since almost every game readme out there ask you for updated drivers
