Last time I ran the test on a wired connection my Download was around 10Mb/s and the Upload was 4Mb/s (those aren't exact I just when with the closest number)

Nintendo_Ownes7

Ahhh, that's a nice little bump though. If I could be bothered to fiddle around with my basement cables to route the internet signal to my room... Then I would. Alas, none of the cables are labelled though :P Stupid contractors.

Wireless it shall remain :(

Fire away.

When my ps3 shat out a couple months ago, there seems to be absolutely no way to back up any of my saves or anything on the hdd. Couldnt hook it up to my pc unless it was reformatted. Putting it in any other ps3 will immediately demand a reformat. Sending the hdd with the ps3 to sony for repair, and they will automatically wipe it. If I keep the hard drive and just send the console, the console i get back will immediately demand a reformat when i put my hdd in. So ya...

This was just an example.Things like this happen on PCs all the time.

And ofcourse the elitest hermits are all like "its your fault". No its not. One should be able to install a game and play it.Thats its.

If you think its OK to just have problems with games and waste time to fix em or that you have to reinstall the OS over and over and over again I feel bad for you.

Have 2 PS3s and 360. Never had problems whit them and I play them all the time.My gaming PC and my laptop always have problems even tho I don't use them as nearly as often.

This is my experiance.I'm not a fanboy.Thats just how thigs are for me.And this is why I'd take console gaming over PC gaming any day jiz. That and the exclusives. (for the most part)

beganoo

Things like this don't happen on my PC "all the time"... This is something you don't seem to understand.

Just like, I'm positive you never had the problems I had with my PS3. Should I say, PS3 **** it has load of probleme and I hate it! No, because I understand that there's nothing in this world related to electronic and programming that are flawless.

Obviously, your very frustrated with your PC... Well guess what, things don't always work out the way you want it to be. And it's not by having this kind of attitude towards a problem that's it going to get better.

You're wasting your time. I started a thread not too long ago about one thing i really hate about pc gaming - and that is basically about troubleshooting. And the troubleshooting can take up to a full day or two days to solve a problem. To make a long story short, my thread was bombarded with pc elitists with all the "It's your fault for not being able to troubleshoot well enough." vibe.

kidcool189

Yeah they all think they run these forums...it's pretty funny but I don't let then get to me one bit. If anything I annoy them even more and they feed right into it! I love it haha

There are a lot of very rude pc fanboys on these forums, but most of the time they are always right in whatever is being argued. And then a lot of console fanboys cant accept it and resort to calling them elitist pricks and ending the argument there. :)

So instead of complaining about how hard it is, maybe you should post your problem, and those PC "fanboys" can help you with your problem in less than an hour.

[QUOTE="jedikevin2"]First gen Duel GPU's + SLI = wonkiness. Pretty much a staple you would be getting all kinda issues on graphics. You have in essence, Nvidia's first trial in the duel GPU market and 2 at that... Nvidia never really did good driver support for those cards and after GTX 285/295... have left the duel gpu market. Pretty much... your gpu + nvidia drivers = wonkiness.. beganoo

Yep, big mistake buying that card. 5 min research would have steered him away from that card. Most of the people who bought that card were the hardcore hardware enthusisats who always stay on the bleeding edge

Wen I got this card it was the latest and the best (I assumed) nVidia card out so yeah...

you should never assume. there were lots of reviews on that card. sli can have issues with some games. this is common knowledge. kinda funny you bought a top of the line card and rarely use it for games

Nobody wants to take more time to learn the system to play the games. And after 9 pages of whatever good thing it wasn't blogged. Now all of these people spent time on GS looking at the ads. Good for GS.

Your loss but to categorize a whole platform because you have a issue with a game is pretty LOLfest (as the 9 pages of members have demonstrated). How about toy setup a profile for the game and not have to worry anymore then?...

Use the Nvidia control panel. Righ click your desktop and you should see it.

You can change the settings to only turn off SLI for that certain game.

Seemed like a easy fix. Though I don't really like adding the .net framework, mainly because I don't trust microsoft. They always seem to manage to do things in a way to piss me off.

From under "Manage 3D settings".

Select "Add" then fine the game exe.

.

There was way to play with SLI on but I am too lazy to look it up right now.

You had to enter a certain hex code into the SLI Compatibility setting under the program "Nvidia Inspector".

I really think you're just making stuff up now.

Seriously, the option is right there. Disable multi-GPU. Make sure you have the proper game selected in the drop down box in the Nvidia Control panel. I just tried it for Witcher 2, BTW, and it works fine and it took me 3 seconds.

I find stuff like that happens a lot too. The whole "you're just doing it wrong" thing is pretty dumb too, we all have different hardware and software so saying "it works for me all the time" is meaningless.

I was a PC gamer for a long time but for the last few years I've been gaming mainly on consoles.I could't remember why i swiched but it all came back to me.

There is always some freaking prbolem with the freaking PC (and yes in my mind the "word" is not "freaking").Always.

I decided to do some PC gaming today .Wanted to try out steam. So I got the all time hermit favorite the Witcher for 15 euro.

I'll give you a very short version. All of this took me half a day counting steam registration game download ect ect.

I start up the game and ofcourse there is some strange glitch (i could see lights through walls (like fires, torches.)

So what do I do?Google it. So I did and found a "solution". I need to do something in a program called nHancer. I get the lastest version but I can't install it cus I need NET framework 3.5 or later. So I get the framework 4.0, install it but nHancer still says it needs framework 3.5 or later (wtf).Ok so... what do I do now ? Get an older version of nHancer. This time it installs.I start up the program and oh snap an... an error, program doesn't work properly.

At this point I'm like **** it. I'm not going to waste anymore of my time and I'm not gonna play a glithced out game.15 euro down the drain.Great.

The only games worth playing on a PC are blizzard games. There is always something wrong with the PC.If its no the game its a program or a driver or whatever. I was used to all this wen I was "PC only gamer" but wen I look back it now its just not worth it.Consoles are some much better.Simple is a GOOD thing. They may lack graphics but atleast you don't waste half a day just to find out your game won't work like it should.

My PC is just for starcraft 2 I guess.

beganoo

No. Im a hardcore PS3 gamer but a hell of a lot of my gaming is on my PC. And the things like driver and hardware problems HARDLY occur for me. I keep everything up to date. Playing mutiplats on PC is just so much better than on consoles.

What game was this anyway?

I don't get it. Whenever I have a glitch, I just methodically think it through and fix it.

I installed the game Prey under Win 7 64-bit. After running it I received a small window showing an error with a graphics DLL file.

Simple solution - changed the icon's compatibility to run the game under XP SP3.

Problem solved, game runs fine.

Did you buy it during the sale? I did too and neither CoP or SoC would work. Went to Library -> right click game -> properties -> local files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache. For CoP it found out over 2GB of stuff was not downloaded even though Steam said the download was finished.

With SoC the above did not work so I just deleted it and let it re-download overnight. Worked like a charm and the STALKER Complete 2009 mod installed and plays with no errors.

Sounds like problems with your new PC then. What did you do wrong? Obviously it's not the game's fault if it works on a newer up to date PC, but doesn't work on another and they are both from the same user.

its likely the games fault, or, a result of a particular configuration, gaming on PC can be a chore sometimes, like i had this issue recently with mafia 2, where bits of the level wasn't loading so i could literally drive off an edge of the road and fal under the map, and this was stuck on my save so i couldn't fix it by restarting it, and if i tried to go around it on another road just more of the same.

At least problems can be fixed on the pc. I've had so many problems with consoles this gen. RROD, disk read errors, broken matchmaking, cheaters, glitchers, NAT trouble, slow downloads, party chat disconnections etc etc. PC gaming has been so much smoother for me.

Your experience doesn't matter though, PC gaming can't be defined by one person's experience, something breaks for me, it doesn't for you, its a direct effect of different configurations and not being able to run code exactly as planned. So PC gaming is inheriently more unstable because of this, and that is a fact. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhSxsUTTQ4E I was able to reproduce this, in the exact same spot, every time i loaded the game, and, this was repeated all through out the town, some areas the graphics still loaded but I'd fall through sections anyway, I couldn't finish in the game period. I ended up verifying the integrety from steam and it downloaded 1 file which reset everything inluding my save, so I don't know if it fixed it since I stopped playing.

There is one game that wont work for me on the PC and its Burnout Paradise, it will just crash as soon as I load the game. I've tried many things even looked on google to see if anyone had the same problem. I did manage to get the game to boot once, but as of right now the game does not work at all. Dont really care though I dislike the game a lot :P

my pont still stands though, PC gaming can be a chore a lot of times, which is why most people would rather game on a console. I've gotten so tempermental with problems I usually dont' even bother trying to fix it, i just go play on my 360... it doen't matter how simple the fix is, i'm not dealing with it. I shouldn't have to back up my saves to fix the game, i don't have to do it on my 360... hell i don't even have to fix the game on my 360, it just works, or my 360 is likely broken. If something doesn't work on my PC I have to break it down and start going through a list of suspected issues.

Looking at that video just brought back the hrs me and friends spent trying to figure out why Gran Turismo 5 tracks would just disappear.. Turns out, his harddrive had a horrible bad sector on it where the game put all the extra data to offload load times etc... Offcourse, the only way we learned that was by taking the dang harddrive out and running some linux programs to check the hd out in a computer... Seems you might have some crazy corruption, missing files, or error going on with Mafia 2... That looks very similar.

That sounds a lot like my friends 360. On Forza 3 the road will disappear. Forza 3 is one of the only games that gives him problems. The other game that dont work on his 360 is Halo Reach as soon as you start the SP the 360 will freeze, though some how the MP works just fine. And not a disk problem as the game work fine on his brothers 360.

you can have hardware problems on any system, i'm just pointing out because software is running on different configurations, you can't expect code to act the same on everyones system, though on a 360 its almost guranteed to run the same as, because it is the same. this was likly a problem with the game files, the amount of games i bought and downloaded along side it was ridiculous.

At least problems can be fixed on the pc. I've had so many problems with consoles this gen. RROD, disk read errors, broken matchmaking, cheaters, glitchers, NAT trouble, slow downloads, party chat disconnections etc etc. PC gaming has been so much smoother for me.

anshul89

the NAT issue is by far the worst. I literally could not play MW2 anymore because of it.

I just can't sit on a chair for long. If it weren't for that, I might be one.

Same here, I can't wait till I move into a location where I can adequately accomodate my PC into my home theater set-up with a monitor and a TV!

[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"][QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"] Sounds like problems with your new PC then. What did you do wrong? Obviously it's not the game's fault if it works on a newer up to date PC, but doesn't work on another and they are both from the same user.Hakkai007

its likely the games fault, or, a result of a particular configuration, gaming on PC can be a chore sometimes, like i had this issue recently with mafia 2, where bits of the level wasn't loading so i could literally drive off an edge of the road and fal under the map, and this was stuck on my save so i couldn't fix it by restarting it, and if i tried to go around it on another road just more of the same.

I played through all of Mafia 2 and never had a problem with it.

This is what I'm talking about. All of the users that are known to bash the PC, somehow often have these weird problems or crazy errors that are completely uncommon or are unheard of. If they hate PC gaming so much, why are they playing games on the PC?

That is your opinion to some Consoles are more of a chore because they also run into bugs.

My friend lost all his saves on his PS3 when a firmware update destroyed his system. It was right around the time he had problems with Heavy Rain freezing.

[QUOTE="jhcho2"]

[QUOTE="DudeNtheRoom"] I said that and it was completely ignored. The old 360's had a 52% failure rate.DudeNtheRoom

That's not even the same thing at all. The RROD is a widespread problem. You get it, your screwed, so you either repair or replace it. But one thing is certain, that the problem is common for everyone. For the PC, every problem may be unique due to the amount of parameters involved. It could be your OS, drivers or even the game itself. Basically, you have to be the one to perform the study on what's wrong. It's entirely different from a common failure rate that everyone will know what to do if it happens. Are you gonna send your pc to the shop if you can't run a game?

So you think that it's better to be screwed completely rather than having the option to try and fix it? Anyway, 99% of problems with games and such are problems that a numner of ppl have had. Theres rarely a case where it's just your computer. If you think differently then you're illinformed and wrong.....but then again this is SW. People will think that way no matter what the truth is.

You are missing the point completely. RROD is a hardware failure, similar to any other hardware failure on the pc. If your graphics card, mobo, or cpu fails on you, you are as screwed as when you get the RROD. We all know that already. The context of this thread is about software troubleshooting, namely the software troubleshooting difficulties of the pc relative to the console. People like you take something OUT of context, such as hardware failure, and compare it to the pc, and a very specific case of hardware failure that only occurs on the 360 and not the ps3, and using it to stereotype consoles in general as if the pc itself doesn't have such problems.

It depends on your router, it's not always that easy.

Oh yeah, isolated cases FTW. You mean the probability of that happening on consoles is higher than that of the pc?
