I got RROD a week ago and it was really annoying.

You know that feeling when you are almost past a really difficult bit of a game that took loads of tries... sooo close... and then the game freezes?

Imagine having that except you cant even turn it back on to try again.

the point yoj are missing though TC is that like me, millions of 360 owners bought the 360 BEFORE we were told about RROD. So we had no idea. Plus most causal gamers wont know about it.

Also the 3 year warranty is good, but my 360 went now, not long before my warranty expires, so now I must either take my chances or PAY for a warranty extansion. I must PAY for their problems.

Apart from that the console is good though, I personally prefer my ps3 but its still got good games. So some people probably dont care about it as much as some do.

[QUOTE="death919"]1) Free 3 year warrantee protecting against the problem. ie) There is no problem.VoodooGamer

The irony here..

2) PS2 had extremely high DRE rate and is one of the greatest consoles of all time.Death

For like a week...

3) 33% is less than 50%. In other words, there is a better chance that it WONT break down than there is that it WILL break down.Death

1/3 Xbox 360s will break down. That's a huge amount of 360s and I can see why Microsoft created the three-year warranty, they ddin't want to lose huge amounts of customers or scare off potential customers. That should put it in perspective nicely. ;)

4) That number was reduced with Falcon chip and will be eliminated with Jasper chip.Death

That really doesn't help those that already have a ticking-time bomb. ;)

~just to clarify. I like the 360 but to pretend there is no problem or the problem is "small" is just plain ignorant. The only people who do that are the ones that want to feel like they made a good choice with their investment. ;)

Its all good and well saying only 33% will go as if 66% are magically protected. But if used enough they can all go.

So mostly its bad for those of us who play games more often. I had my 360 with lots of space to ventilate, never had a problem till I got RROD.

You cant protect against it, it will happen to all of them given enough time.

No one I know in real life has had a RRoD, I havn't had one.

None of my friends on xbox live have had one. (that I know of)

33% is clearly not true.

I bought it knowing full well it has a bad track record.

I bought my PS2 knowing full well it could break (it did actually).

If the 360 had a 90 day warranty or something, there is no way I would buy one though.

I was having fun playing GTA4 when it went.

It was a mixture of annoyonce at the start, then red lines went donw the screen and then i was intrigued, then I turned it on again to have more lines then it froze, then I am thinking "this better not be what i think it is" then I turned it on again to have RROD. a mixute of disbelief and annoyance.

I guess many people don't know about it before they buy it. I'm sure it has a much higher failure rate that the PS2. I've had by big PS2 since launch, and I also have a slim PS2. That broke twice, but the customer service was excellent. I called them up, they came in under 2 days, took the ps2 and at the same time, they gave me a new one!

For the 360 don't you have to post it off then wait for them to fix it? You could be waiting months.

I guess most of them buy the system without knowing of the problems

Who came? A Sony rep came to your house or something?

Yes, you do have to mail it to Microsoft. Most repairs are finished in a matter of days, but the ground shipping is definitely the slowest part. I got mine back less than 2 weeks after mailing it.

Fun games that we don't have to wait to come out... and the failure rate isn't 100%, plus MS will fix any 360 that red-rings free of charge for up to three years.

That's because you didnt clean out the dust collected on the inside and it exceeded maximum stable temps and f'ed-up

I didn't know anything about RROD until a month after purchase...

But I won't get rid of my 360. There are just too many great games on it.

if you dont clean out the dust collected on the inside and it has a chance of exceeding maximum stable temps means hottness the hardware can take and it f's up.

hardware needs to be kept cool and dust free.

also....poorly applied thermal compound on the gpu/cpu heatsinks could make it even more of a chance of messing up if it's dusty on the inside of 360.

RROD is not a problem...I treat as every other electronic system failure in my household except I do not have to pay for it to be fixed ;), now that is not a problem unless you think calling MS up a problem and as to why I bought/keep my 360 is because it has imo the best games out of the 3 consoles this gen, the best online and the best online content (Playing Castle Crashers has been some of the most fun I've had playing a downloadable game since...umm let me think...Geometry Wars 2 and Braid :D )...The real question is...why wouldn't you buy a 360??? :|

I have get two 360's one pro (over 2.5years) and an elite (8 months) and never even had them crash and I keep them both in an entertainment center and I can play up to 10 hours at a time on them never any problems, oh but my PS3 had to get returned on the second day because I couldn't get GT5 out of it.

No just 33% of them. Out of 7 friends 4 of them have had theirs die on them. Sorry actually 5 of them. Just remembered.

Also game library, Avg rating of Ps3 library is like a 7.7, 360 avg rating is 7.3. So keep the better games arguement to the minimum, thank you :)

Funny thing...my Wii gets DRE's all the time (laying flat). My 360 never does. Only thing 360's done is crash a few times playing games like Oblivion and Mass Effect and they do on all systems. BTW I've had my Wii for 2 months and my 360 for 12.

Whoever makes these topics only makes them out of insecurity. They're just trying to convince themselves they made the right purchase by not buying a 360 or whatever system they're making fun of. If you think the 360 sucks so badly, why do you need to tell everyone about it? Wouldn't people already know by now, in 2008? I'm on my 3rd 360. I don't care. I got refunded for when my first one broke, and my second one was free. It's not as bad as people make it out to be. It also just takes about a week for the 360 to come back.

Because when it "dies" you wait ten days and then get it back. RROD is an annoyance, not a dealbreaker. Too many fanboys act like once your 360 RROD's that's it. It's dead. That isnt the case at all.

Mine has RROD'd three times. The first i was pretty much expecting it, the second annoyed me and the third REALLY annoyed me as i'm finally off for a month and was looking forward to playing some games. Still, it never took them more than 10 days to take it and return it, so it's hardly an epic problem for me. Just irritating and disappointing from an otherwise fantastic system.

Because it's the only platform with a respectable game library.vashkey

That's just an old, extremely tired myth.

Okay, it's the only platform with a respectable game library excluding the PC.

why bother wiping when you're just gunna poop again?air_wolf_cubed
meh , it's not like that,

but what bothers be isn't why ppl buy a system that dies and has a failure rating (even with the 3 years warranty , it ends and u are gonna be mad and wait for a new console when it dies) , but why they keep defending it with everything they got despite being a "bad" CONSOLE , great games, but a bad console , it has never come to this in all consoles history!

and over defending it they attack other consoles just to make the Xbox360 a better one, maybe that's how ppl are, lol.

Excluding the PC it's an entirely reasonable point to make.
