What, is it not right for a Tomb Raider game to have monsters? I recall seeing a monster in Tomb Raider Legend on the Gamecube and that was a good game (or at least I love it).Monsters?
Yeah.... Ill take my interest back thank you....

I am all for it. While I have actually enjoyed what Crystal Dynamics has done with the series, this new approach sounds like the right direction from what little we know. Really digging the darker, grittier look of the art as well. It is certainly on my radar.

Looks cool in the concept art but in my opinion, Tomb Raider has long outlived its welcome and has had too many bombs to be given much credibility at this point. And didn't they already "reboot" the series with Tomb Raider Legends last gen? And then reboot it again this gen? Then reboot it with that recent dungeon crawler they released not long ago?
Seriously, how many times are we going to fall for the "reboot" hype before we realize it is just more milking for a franchise that lost steam long, long ago and should have died off by now?
I would much rather they focus on other franchises that died off but should have survived like Fear Effect. Reboot that franchise. I'd buy that in a second.

I don't know, I have actually enjoyed the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raiders. Some of us just love the series and don't want it to die. Not to mention that I am all for a darker, grittier approach in an open world. Loads of potential for more exploration and excitement. To each their own, of course.
This post might be true if the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider games weren't good. They were. Legend was good. Anniversary was amazing and Guardian of Light is one of the best XBLA games there is. Underworld is really the only Crystal Dynamics TR that could be considered "bad", and even that wasn't exactly a terrible game. I see no reason not to hype this.Looks cool in the concept art but in my opinion, Tomb Raider has long outlived its welcome and has had too many bombs to be given much credibility at this point. Guardians of light is good. I'll give you that. So why don't they just focus on that for the series instead of once again trying to milk a larger franchise with a larger game?
But I have to disagree. Those other games were terrible.

Well Legend and Anniversary didn't exactly get bad reviews. Both averaged AA with the critics. It's not milking to continue making main series games. Guardian of Light was just a little downloadable side game. When the next GTA game comes out are you going to call that milkage for not continuing with the smaller scale Chinatown Wars style?OMG yes! This looks AWESOME!!!
For those whining about monsters, gratz on showing your complete inexperience with the series. Monsters have been turning up since the first freaking Tomb Raider game I mean seriously....
Why keep brown eyes? 80% of the world has brown eyes, give her something a little more dazzling... like orange eyes.Phazevariance
How about blue eyes?
That color is becoming increasingly rare and might eventually be gone in the future due to the dominate gene for black and brown eyes.
Maybe I am biased because I have blue eyes.
I like it, i actually like the idea, never been a huge Tomb Raider fan, but i like this setting, however, i'm kind of worried for those monsters, i hope it doesn't turn into an average action game with monsters.
OMG yes! This looks AWESOME!!!

Sure, but the monster were never the focus, TR was always about adventure and platforms, but if they manage to put the old adventure feeling with a couple of monsters to make it feel like a Survival Horror, we could have a big winner.
Art direction is not something that wow's me but the fact that Guardian of Light is my favorite downloadable game makes me slightly interested.

Well yeah, enemies were never the focus of TR, but enemies are usually something that is put out there in the preview for games.
And yeah, I definitely hope they have that old adventure feeling in it. I loved Legend and Anniversary. They really brought this series back for me. Didn't play Underworld though....
I remember reading about this reboot (with pics too) some time ago. Looking forward to getting my Game Informer in the mail, because this does sound / look interesting :). I hope it turns out good.
Laura and Nate should totally hook up :P.

- Lara is 21 in this game
- It's not only a reboot of the franchise but a reboot of the entire brand. As a result there will be no "real" Lara model this time.
- They're doing performance capturing with this game
- There are brutal deaths in the game this time. One is described as a deranged man stabbing Lara in the chest and then closing her eyes after she's dead. Another includes a boulder falling on her leg to trap her before another falls and crushes her head.
- CD won't talk specifics on weapons but concept art shows a bow, shotgun and pistol
- The lock on targeting system is gone and it now has a free aim system. CD says that it can compete with any of their competitors.
- "I think that the major difference between this game and the old is the concept of smoke and mirrors," begins Darrell Gallagher, the studio head at Crystal Dynamics. "There was an illusion of freedom because of streaming and loading that would pop you out in a different location, but this is absolutely real. You can literally go any direction that you see and carve your own way to the finish line instead of being guide."
- "It was important in the game to not only deliver the character arc of Lara Croft emotionally, but to deliver it in gameplay as well so the player gets to grow into a hardened survivor," says experienced director Noah Hughes. As the game unfolds, Lara will scavenge new tools and gear that augment her abilities. Lara's athletic prowess will also evolve. Some areas begin inaccessible due to physical limitations or scarce supplies. With the right skills and gear, however, the island is Lara's for the taking.
- There are base camps in the game. Here you can combine items to create something new and access a skill system to upgrade Lara's abilities. You'll also be able to use base camps to fast travel to different locations to minimize backtracking.
- You'll need to gather food and water in order to survive
- There are humans in the game, including some of the crew members from the shipwreck off the coast of the island.
sounds cool
I'm diggin' the new look.:)
She now looks more natural and normal looking than the current Botox, mannequin, collagen, Double D Barbie look.
So this game is open world? That's freaking bad ass. The linearity of the Tomb Raider games has long been one of my biggest criticisms of them. It sounds like this game might actually be in the Metroidvania genre in some ways.some info from GAF (credit to SolidSnakex)
