Why does it seem reboots are murdering the characters? First DmC, now Tomb Raider, although Tomb Raider isn't nearly as bad. Keep it British (love the accent,) and hair/eyes brown.
waiwaiwaiwaiwait WHAT THE HELL IS THAT. there's silent hill on mah tomb raider! :PBrunoBRS

- Lara is 21 in this game
- It's not only a reboot of the franchise but a reboot of the entire brand. As a result there will be no "real" Lara model this time.
- They're doing performance capturing with this game
- There are brutal deaths in the game this time. One is described as a deranged man stabbing Lara in the chest and then closing her eyes after she's dead. Another includes a boulder falling on her leg to trap her before another falls and crushes her head.
- CD won't talk specifics on weapons but concept art shows a bow, shotgun and pistol
- The lock on targeting system is gone and it now has a free aim system. CD says that it can compete with any of their competitors.
- "I think that the major difference between this game and the old is the concept of smoke and mirrors," begins Darrell Gallagher, the studio head at Crystal Dynamics. "There was an illusion of freedom because of streaming and loading that would pop you out in a different location, but this is absolutely real. You can literally go any direction that you see and carve your own way to the finish line instead of being guide."
- "It was important in the game to not only deliver the character arc of Lara Croft emotionally, but to deliver it in gameplay as well so the player gets to grow into a hardened survivor," says experienced director Noah Hughes. As the game unfolds, Lara will scavenge new tools and gear that augment her abilities. Lara's athletic prowess will also evolve. Some areas begin inaccessible due to physical limitations or scarce supplies. With the right skills and gear, however, the island is Lara's for the taking.
- There are base camps in the game. Here you can combine items to create something new and access a skill system to upgrade Lara's abilities. You'll also be able to use base camps to fast travel to different locations to minimize backtracking.
- You'll need to gather food and water in order to survive
- There are humans in the game, including some of the crew members from the shipwreck off the coast of the island.sounds cool

It sounds absolutely amazing on paper....(gives me the Batman Arkham Assylum mixed with deadspace vibe, except at a larger scale)
However, let's hope it works well in action.

I'm not liking the brutal deaths but the rest sounds absolutely insane.:o ... Let's hope it works.:)
Colour me impressed! I'll look forward to an awesome spike impaling Lara animation just like the PS1 games! I love the fact it's open world. Sounds really cool. One thing that also caught my attention is the lack of lock on targeting. The combat was always the one thing that was holding previous games back. A free aiming system should mean better combat and will only make the game better.some info from GAF (credit to SolidSnakex)

*is confused*I was quite skeptical and apprehensive when I heard the next game was going to be a reboot. This cover may have just changed my mind :o
I'm pretty excited about the total free roaming, getting rid of the lock-on aiming, weapons crafting & upgrading, and the whole survival theme. But please please please please PLEASE can they finally fix that infernal camera. If they can allow me to see where I'm jumping when Lara in a ledge backed against a wall, I'll be super happy :)

Interesting.
Maybe it'll be better than the Xbox Live/PSN title.
LegatoSkyheart
I should think so, since that was a "compact" game, and this will be on a next gen engine. It'll be an enhanced overhaul of the traditional formula of acrobatic platforming and exploration which is what the TR fans really want.

A bit premature to be saying Lara is "ruined" by this. I'd say the enhanced realism will only be a boon to the iconic heroin.

wha? SHE LOOKS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME! my god people are so dam silly sometimes. This is no where near compared with what happend with cole he looked like nathan drake in part 2 so it didint make sense. This lara is a reboot and even then she looks the same just a tad bit less cartoony and has some dirt and blood on her cause thats how they wanted her to look in that pictuer.

I agree, quick to get on the sig and avatar eh? I do really like what she looks like now though, the old design was overstaying its welcome. :Pthey'll add a SECOND EARRING to link's right ear, TOTALLY RUINING IT! OH NOES! seriously. she looks different, but she still looks like someone worthy of being called "a tomb raider". i just think the change from guns to a freaking bow (even if guns are still around) is weird... they better explain it. *actually reads the info* oh. nevermind me. figured it out.>Dante

Well the cutscenes will most likely be great. I am a bit worried that they'll make this ultra violent and give Lara a sailors mouth. I'm okay with it being darker or gritty but using the M rating to just add more swear words and violence seems like an easy way out.ycole11
This is something I covered in the Eidos forums. And while the M rating allows for flexibility in language, does not mean Lara herself will swear every other word. She's still very much a lady and her tragic circumstances in no way negates her aristocratic upbringing.
But don't forget the games are populated by other character's. Lara is always encountering mercenaries and other seedy underworld types. Of course you'd expect them to regularily drop F-bombs. Would you think in a heted firefight, the mercs would be shouting "We gonna put you down babe!!" ?? Profanity and derogatory remarks are pretty much a lifestyIe aspect of that group, and now the games can more accurately represent them.
Jim Raynor wasn't ruined. Please.>Dante

I don't get all this talk about how her desing has been "ruined."
She still looks like the general idea of Lara Croft, they've just made her more realistic instead of cartoony. And she's covered in dirt and grime because she's been shipwrecked.
It's not like DmC where the director basically made Dante into... himself...
