[QUOTE="jasonharris48"][QUOTE="Hoobinator"]FFIV has to be up there. It's one of the best and frankly overlooked FF games in the series.kryloc

Yes FFIV is a good game one of the best FF's I think FF IX is overlooked to.

I disagree 100%.

I considerFFIV to be one of the worst FF titles (not that it's bad). No other FF leads you by the hand like IV. No other FF shoe horns you into cookie cutter development system (that lacks any choices), that is actually just a back ground development system for almost allthe rest of the FF franchise.

Sorry but the jump in plot telling just isn't enough for me with that title (which was it's only star feature over the past iterations).

What about mystic quest? :)

Well I said one of the worst, and Mystic Quest isn't really even worth mentioning (not to mention wasn't even released in PAL territories under the FF franchise).

3.Final Fantasy 7

4. Panzer Dragoon Saga

5. Grandia

6. Chrono Trigger

7. Star Ocean Second story

8. Suikoden

9.Persona

10.Shin Megami Tensai Nocturne

How mean! lol I fail?

too many Megaten , pick the best one or the list is too bias. also you didn't include Crono Cross or Star Ocean 2nd Story.

As you can tell Nocturne is my favorite MegaTen and P3 as my Favorite Persona but I just can't pick one MegaTen or Persona game I find them better than alot of RPG's except for MegaTen: Devil Summoner and DemiKids those two wasn't that great.

1. Xenogears

2. Chrono Trigger

3. Final Fantasy 6

4.Secret of Mana

5. Kingdom Hearts (both 1&2)

6. Final Fantasy 7

7. Final Fantasy 9

8. Tales of Symphonia

9. Breath of Fire 1

10. Final Fantasy 4

People are way too harsh on Kingdom Hearts. It has a decent story and the gameplay is fun even if it is too easy. Xenogears has the best combo of gameplay and story for any jrpg to this date imo, even though the second disc was a bit rushed. Final Fantasy 4 was the first jrpg I ever played and got me hooked, and for some reason I love the story of the bad guy turning good.

I didn't count srpgs like FF Tactics because I just can't get into them for some reason.

Edit: I should also add that Final Fantasy 8 fails the list because of the draw system. I hate that system with a passion, it's the worst system in ANY FF ever.

[QUOTE="jasonharris48"]How do you guys feel about the Tales of..series I've most of the U.S releases but I was only able to get into the gamecube title Tales of Symphonia which was only decent to me IMO.kage_53
Symphonia and Legendia are not that great. Symphonia is filled with so many cliches and its story is weak for a jrpg. Legendia was done by the Soul calibur which is why its completely different from the rest. Battle system is too broken (infinite combo's are possible) and its story feels shallow. Phantasia (PS1 and PSP versions are the best ) is very original. Ithelped bring the Action JRPG games. Its overall story is completely refreshing. Having the ability to travel in the past and future was a really unique idea. The people who created the game was Wolf Team. Many of the former Wolf Team members created Tri-Ace. The best games are Phantasia, Destiny 2, Rebirth, Abyss, Eternia, Destiny, Symphonia, and Legendia in that order.

Symphonia is easily the best one. The combat system is by far the best of them all... the only one I didn't try and die to is Abyss, which is made by the one making Symphonia.

Some peoples here should really get into more Fire Emblem and Ogre Battle...

Except for FF6 and Tactics, I never enjoyed a single FF game.

FF7 is the best jrpg, but i like ten better (i was so sad)elite_ferns1

I found FF X's plot good on style but kinda weak in sense. If everyone stopped being so fatalistic they'd realize that people killing themselves wasn't solving anything.

I don't have that many so I put only seven:

1) Kingdom Hearts

2) FFTA

3) FFXII

4) Kingdom Hearts II

5) Final Fantasy X

6) Final Fantasy III DS

7) Luminous Arc

I don'tknow if I should count Paper Mario, but if it is then it would be my number one.

I haven't really played much in the way of JRPGs, but here goes(in no particular order): -Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu 2 -Seiken Densetsu 3 (Japan only) -Live A Live (Japan only) -Earthbound/Mother 2 -Final Fantasy VI (Hate the combat system, but the rest of the game makes up for that.) -Chrono Trigger -...Crap, I can't think of any other noteworthy JRPGs! (I may have put Paper Mario 1 here, but I don't know if I should put it up here just yet given that I never finished the game. Same goes for Bahamut Lagoon. Then again, I didn't quite finish the rest of the titles in this list...) Another issue is that I haven't played many other noteworthy titles, like: -Panzer Dragoon Saga (I want this game very, VERY badly, but I don't want to pay ridiculous prices for it.) -Princess Crown (For some reason, I count this as a JRPG, but Odin Sphere doesn't fall into that same category in my book. Anyway, the only reason why I haven't played it is that no one's made a translation patch for it yet...and it's also a bit expensive, though not Panzer Dragoon Saga expensive.) -Final Fantasy VII (I've watched other people play it, but I've never played it myself.) -two series that are unrelated other than that their titles are five-letter words beginning in "L" -anything (Shin) Megami Tensei -anything Tales of * -Super Mario RPG -Paper Mario: TTYD -Xenogears -Xenosaga -anything Star Ocean (Well, I've technically played the first one, but didn't really progress into it.)

2. FFIV

3. FFVI

4. Earthbound

5. Xenogears

6. Star Ocean 2

7. Star Ocean TTEoT (personal, I sub in over Phantasy Star IV)

8. Mario RPG

9. Lunar Silver Star Story

10. Skies of Arcadia

I really didn't see the big appeal of xenogears, granted I haven't finished it. My favorite is Legend of Dragoon, but I've only played about 10 different JRPGS.

like I said in previous post, I'll be ok with you putting that game on your list as long as you consider disc 1 as the only part of Final Fantasy VIII and rest of the 3 CDs don't exists.

FF8 is in my top 10 too. FF8 was amazing. Its problem was that it came after arguably one of the greatest rpgs in history, FF7. Heck, the card game in FF8 was funner then half the rpgs ive ever played.

problem is not that it came right after FF7

problem was that FF8 had AWESOME first disc and rest of the game was horrible.

It also had too much potential to fall like that.

If FF8 first disc wasn't that good, FF8 wouldn't have been my most hated Final Fantasy of all time.

thank you, I had a nightmare Final Fantasy VIII was 4 disc game! and 3 discs really sucked.

Too bad FFVIII was such a short game and the ending of cliff hanger, but what a great game.

Junction system was odd and drawing magic ended up discourging people to use magic so it didn't have good magic system, but everything else was great.

It's just the game was too short.

JPRG's are so crap these day's, hell I can't even sit though them anymore but here is my top 5 list

1: Final Fantasy 6 (Considered by Final Fantasy fans the real greatest game in the series anf perhaps one of the best games on the Super Nintendo, It was a master piece that was kind of killed in translation, though it was a great way to end the series before it started become overated emo fangirl crap)

2: Chrono Trigger (Hell I would normally have this at number 1 if I had finished it, though I never got to finish it (Lost it :( ) it was still an amazing game, I made it about 3 quaters of the way through, and the fans are still asking for a revival in the francise)

3: Xenosaga (Pretty much for the same reason everyone else loves this game, The story and the soundtrack)

4: Super Mario RPG (Pretty much a sleeping dragon of RPG's, not many have played it, but is still considered one of the top JRPG's ever to grace earth)

5: Pokemon Red and Blue (Really, do I need to explain myself, These games kicked the crap back in the day)

You're saying that FFX is bad? Personally I think its special. In a lot of ways. The story is really good. The graphic is one of the best in its time. The cutscenes are mind blowing. The music is special. The characters are lovable. The world of Spira is lovely. Its just my opinion.

[quote="TriangleHard"]because it focused too much on individual character development over the main plot.TriangleHard

So you're the kind of person who favors Dan Brown over John LeCarre?

Nice to know.

:P

Not really. I don't like mystery novels that much.

I actually prefer Asian novels such as Art of War, Romance of the Three Kingdom, and stuff you wouldn't know about because they aren't written in English.

Final Fantasy VI had stories that was way too broken into little pieces that none of them recieved proper attention to grow. It was like Saga Frontier. Bare to the bone stories with very little meat on it.

Also the main plot wasn't that interesting. If it wasn't for Kefka, it would've been really poor plot that tried to make it seem political initially but failed miserably.

Which is why I enjoy Matsuno's works so much due to his highly detailed political situations and character development, which all of them are fairly well planned with right pacing.

Art of War isn't a novel :|

First of all were talking about jrpgs and not srpgs right?

The three most important elements in a jrpg is story, characters, and gameplay. With story and characters being slightly more important.

It has to have all three to be good.

1.) Suikoden II - This game has the least dumbest storyline I have seen in a jrpg. With the least amount of cliches. With the least amount of stupid characters. With the least amount of corny moments. With the least amount of plot holes.

With an antagonist that is better than every FF antagonist combined (If Delita doesn't count). Thankfully the plot never revolves around saving the world. An absolute miracle in the realm of jrgps.

2.) Xenogears - It actually has some nice developed well rounded characters. The characters actually are somewhat psychologically believeable. It has some very interesting antagonists. While cliched, its less cliched and less stupid than most if not all other jrpgs.

3.) ....................

4.) .....................

5.) .....................

6.) .....................

7.) .....................

8.) .....................

9.) .....................

10.) ...................

Yeah, pretty sad list seeing how the rest of the jrpgs I played couldn't meet the three categories above.

1. Final Fantasy VII

2. Dragon Quest 8

3. Chrono Trigger ( I haven't finished it so it stays on number 3)

I don't feel like picking out others but those are easily my favorite. FFVII has yet to be beat IMO, I remember playing it and thinking I was the only person that liked the game until years later I realised it was one of the top sellers and the most succesful JRPG. Music alone brings back so many awesome memories. To bad it's been plagued with crap in an attempt to milk the franchise. -Looks at DoC,CC,AC and so many others-

1 Vagrant Story

2 Ocarina of Time

3 FFX

4 Chrono Trigger

5 Odin Sphere (does this count?)

6 FFVII, VIII and IX are equally good in hindsight. Not really fond of ATB combat and overall gameplay in any of them, but they each have nice narratives and settings.

8 Super Mario RPG

9 Tales of Symphonia

10 Valkyrie Profile (can't decide between 1 and 2. 2 has a freakishly fun combat system and both have pretty decent stories that spiral into something really odd and out of the blue towards the end)
