STALKER (series) (PC)
CCS (PC)
FEAR (PC)
Honerbly mention:
Halo (Xbox)
Perfect dark (N64)
KZ2 (PS3)
I like games where weapons feel slightly heavy, and damaging, and have a recoil, alot of games slack on those. Most modern games have guns that feels like paintball guns, and there is not alot of feeling with the weapons, it is giving me such a distracting disconnect, that there are a handful of fps games I stopped playing halfway through, never to pick up again
In no particular order:
F.E.A.R. (PC)
Unreal Tournament 2004 (PC)
Halo 3 (360)
If you're wondering why I picked UT2k4, remember that gunplay also includes how satisfying the weapons are, and there's nothing like ricocheting some flak around a wall and seeing tiny pieces of the poor sap you hit come bouncing back. :P
Is it just FPS games? I find some games with guns that aren't FPS's that have some good gunplay.nintendoboy16
Any shooters will do.
As for my list:
1. Killzone 2 - The most satisfying gunplay this gen. Weapon sounds are incredible, bullet reactions are the best out there. Guns are beautiful and extremely detailed.
2. Counter-Strike - I'm not joking! :D Gun sounds there are classic and everyone remembers them. Shooting feels so good, it is probably the only reason I come back play some more CS. Enemy bullet reactions are almost non-existant, but everything else is superb for a 10 years old game.
3. While I don't like Modern Warfare games as a whole, I love gunplay there.
Bonus points:
TF2 - amazingly solid gunplay for a cartoon-style game
FEAR 1 - was unparalleled at it's time
Stalker CoP - SoC had some weak weapon sounds and glitchy animations, so CoP is better. Never paid attention to Clear Sky though.
I was also going to say Red Steel 2 .. but i realized that what i like about Red Steel 2 is the sword combat.. I think the guncombat is great too but the sword combat is just way too good so i couldnt list it.. but anyway hiking a guy in the air and pumping them with lead until they fall down is an experience that i wouldnt have expected from a FPS game..
Sorry for the double post, but when I click "edit" i get the advert page and then the "invalid board" page :x Anyways, can anyone say "bird chirp"? The bird chirp automatically makes KZ2 the most satisfying shooter :PII_Seraphim_IIThis guys knows what he's talking about +1
Day of Defeat Source
The guns have weight. All the weapons and cIasses are equally balanced so that no one is at a higher advantage than anyone else (except perhaps the .30cal being weak compared to the MG42) and the guns just make loud noises that sound like real guns and do damage like real guns.
Perfect Dark
Opposite the previous mention, this is all arcade... but again, balance plays a large role in the gunplay and fun factor. Granted, there are some weapons that overpower others, but when they are all available (on a map) and anyone with some skill is playing, it will usually lead to a good outcome. Not to mention all the secondary functions that add so much depth to the gameplay.

Idk man, DoD Source makes the recoil too high up the only winners in the game are flankers and Snipers, its like the guy you control have no muscle at all

^ F.E.A.R. really does have crazy particle effects and animations with their guns and the environment
I don't know why anyone would say Halo 3 or MW1/MW2 because of the lack of recoil. You must have noticeable amounts of recoil or have weapons that DON'T sound underpowered to be include for best gun play (MW and Halo lack in one aspect or the other). There also should be certain degree of skill you need depending on the weapon you use.
With that said for me so far it's:
Counter-Strike: Source
Battlefield Bad Company 2
I haven't played Killzone 2, but from what I hear and see, it's up there.

Killzone 2's guns feel very nice, i think the only problem is how the controls ruin your aiming, but the guns themselves have a huge "feel" to them
that said i do wish the shotgun and ISA assault rifle had more "impact", the Helghast assault rifles suck to use but have a really great "impact" to them, the gunshots are loud and the shots per minute is really fast, they feel deadly, while the ISA stuff generally feels kinda slow and average... so they aren't perfect, but they definitely get the whole "weight" thing down tight
