Hello System Wars!

There has been collosal hype behind both of these games, with both Microsoft and Sony stating that Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2 are system-selling games for their respective consoles. Indeed, everyone here should know that Mass Effect 2 isn't truly an Xbox 360-exclusive, but despite the countless rumours and evidence to suggest otherwise, it looks extremely unlikely that PS3 owners (by which I mean those who do not own an Xbox 360 or PC capable of running the game) will be able to experience the game any time soon.

Whilst Uncharted 2 may have recieved a higher score than Mass Effect 2 at Gamespot, they are currently tied on Metacritic, each with a score of 96 on their respective consoles. My question to you is simple - which of the two is better?

I realise they are very different games and some may say they are uncomparable. It is likely that many people on this thread will not bother to read my opening post, and will simply post state it anyway, but even if two things are very different, you can still prefer one more than the other.

For example, in my opinion:

LittleBigPlanet > Killzone 2

Equally, in my opinion:

Halo 3 > Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts

They don't have to be compared based upon every comparable attribute - simply state which game you prefer, or which you think is a better game overall.

One is an RPG and the other is an action adventure. One is in space and the other is in present day. I'm starting to see the similarities here.

Because there are only one PS3 user, one PC user and one X360 user on the whole forum, right?

I actualy played Mass Effect 2 today at a friend and i was quite impressed. But i realy loved Uncharted 2s story so ill just pick that one...
Mass Effect 2 for now felt good but i just felt that i was lacking on the freedom of movement (sandbox fealing) witch i realy like with RPGs.

Why? Instead of *****'*** about which one is better and wasting time; why not just call them both sweet games? Maybe if they were at least comparable it'd be ok.

Games are complete different. Can't really compare them. Both games are excellent in their genre. I honestly don't see one being better then the other at all. I own both and both games are awesome and worth owning.

I didn't vote either because both games are on the same level for me.

I haven't played either game but I have played Mass Effect and didn't care for it. Uncharted 2 is probably a good game but since it's been hyped as the be all end all game on the PS3 and from my experience with hyped PS3 games in the pass, it's most likely 8.0 at best.

ME2 is a better sequel and more satisfying and fun to play imo

i own both and still like Uncharted 2, but it's like a repeat of Uncharted 1 vs. Mass Effect 1, Uncharted 1 was still fun but ME1 was just a far superior experience

those of you who think it's comparing apples to oranges are FEWLS! There's no such thing as genre that really exists it's just an archetype in this case because direct comparisons can be made.

For example the option to customize your character in Mass Effect 2 to any gender, any race and any look for John Shepard EXISTS. You can't do that in Uncharted 2 with Nathan Drake you are stuck with the same old character, and not everyone wants to play with the same generic hollywood 'hero'. This might seem trivial to alot of people but is actually considerably more socially progressive and advanced than UC2. Instead of being locked with one character like in movies, this is the big advantage of video games.

This could have been implemented along similar lines in UC2, but they didn't do that now did they?

And on top of that linearity vs non-linearity, mass effect 2 wins here hands down and it's not because of 'genre'. It takes more effort, thought, and talent to pull off a non-linear story that comes together seamlessly.

ME2 isn't just meant to be an emulated Hollywood experience that UC2 strives to be, ME2 is just so much more superior because it goes beyond that.

Ok,UC2 WAS my favorite game until ME2 came, both games are epic in their own way but ME2 is just so EPIC :) When you first get back normandy and then start to do quests ooo man the story, cut scenes, graphics art direction, epicness i cant describe this game with words, simply breathtaking.

Now to be absolutely objective,UC2 is best adventure action game i have played, and ME2 is pretty much the most satisfying RPG that i have played, and i am more RPG then i am action/plat former so my vote goes to ME2.But without shadow of a doubt both games are so great that there is no point in arguing which is better, there is no facts but one, both games are simply BREATHTAKING :)

edit : Ups i accidentally voted for UC2

This is just like that ridiculous IGN thread. You're basically saying Mass Effect 2 is better because it's an RPG. Why would you be able to customize your character to any race, gender etc in Uncharted 2? and please explain how it takes more "effort, thought and talent" to create a non-linear game, bearing in mind what Uncharted 2 does in its SP. Like OI said, I'll reserve my judgement until I'lve beaten Mass Effect 2, and at the moment I'm loving it, but these are just genre differences.

Ability to customize characters isn't an exclusive domain of RPG's, non-linear story telling also isn't an exclusive domain of RPG's it's you who'se confused that maybe games don't have to be defined by genre?

Like I said UC2 strives to be an EMULATED movie experience so it becomes more of a watered down version of what you see in the cinema, ME2 on the other hand offercs something that no cinema or movie experience could ever in a million years hope to offer. That's why it's superior.

I want Mass Effect 2 so bad. I played it at my friends house and it's is pretty amazing. But overall Uncharted 2 is more polished and the story and cinematics are unmatched.

they are to completely different genres theres no real comparison to made , only fanboys care about which is better and im guessing this is coming from ign which is a joke of a gaming site were they post flamebait editorials

coltgames

why are people so afriad to just say 'one game is better'? if doesnt matter if they are similar, thats not the question and is completely irrelevant. for example, i consider wonder boy 3 a better game than daytona usa, even though theyre not similar. that doesnt mean one isnt better than the other.

The poll quite accurately presents the thinking behind the question: They are totally different games and so people who like Uncharted's style of gameplay will pick it, and people who like Mass Effect 2's style of gameplay will pick it. I have a personal bias towards Mass Effect 2 (as it is prevailing as my favourite franchise of all time), so that is my favourite of the two. Uncharted 2 is still an amazing game however
