Gears 3 is on a whole other level than U3 imo, clearly seen in the below pics, in U3 i can barely make out anything in the messy looking forest and jaggied look is just too apparent, it is not that Gears 3 does not have some jaggies too, but in U3 they are far more visible and somehow textures are affected too

loosingENDS

You actually call UC3 messy and that you can barely make out anything.?:o

That Gears screen look even wash out and colors are bland, look at how superior and strong the shadows are on that forest compare to Gears.

This U3 forest looks dated, i cant make out any of the vegetation due to jaggies, that is all

The Gears 3 pic looks way cleaner and more next gen to me

That is my opinion and wont change of course

I assume you are just trolling, have you actually seen that forest on your TV? It actually looks very crisp and detailed in game

Only they are not rendered in real time, there is zero difference between rendering CGI in a workstation and rendering Uncharted 3 cut scenes in a PS3

Both are the exact same thing, rendering and not in real time

tormentos

Not on real time on the game, but when they were recorded they were real time on the game owns engine, that is the real difference between CGI and in game, the PS3 could never ever produce FF13 CGI in real time,Uncharted 3 cutscenes were done on the PS3 dev kits, they are not done on some fancy work station, which mean that what you saw there did ran on PS3 while it was recorded.

Rendering on a Work station is incredibly different to doing so on PS3,i mean light years away in difference only some one who doesn't know the difference between in engine and CGI would make a comment like that.

No, they were not real time when they were recorded of course, otherwise why record them and not just play them real time on PS3 ?

Plus they look 10000x better and cleaner than the actual game, which means they probably rendered them for weeks

If real time is a frame rendered per day then maybe you have a point

There is zero difference between an engine and CGI renderers, any renderer could be an engine if they could render in hardware fast enough

I know the "difference" very very well

Ok now is clear what you are doing, mods should ban you for doing that,if you want to have argument with people is one thing, but to say that about games just to get a reaction from posters is sad,is impossible that you can't make out anything because of jaggies that only exist on your mind, when you have a valid point and want to actulaly devate graphics without makings things up i am here.

I see jaggies and a confusing image

I dont want "people to react", the TC said U3 is graphics king and i see all those jaggies and terrible image quality, so i will post about it

[QUOTE="ChubbyGuy40"] Lol I actually agree with you. Rage wrecks Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 looks better then both IMO. Crysis 2 doesn't even look better then Crysis 1. actionjunkie10

On the console side, I'm not sure either way. But on the PC side of things..... Since upgrading my video card and playing Crysis 2 with full DX11, I've jumped ship from Crysis 1/Warhead to the Crysis 2 camp as the better looking vanilla.

Anyway, between UC3 and Gears 3, I like UC3's looks better. Of course, my bias towards nice, ornate details played a bigger part on my choice. Same goes for UC2.

Just giving my honest opinion. Rage on Xbox 360 is the best looking console game this generation. And I own both an Xbox 360 and PS3. And the Xbox 360 version runs at a higher resolution at 60 fps. So stop making up stuff.

They both run at 720p and 60FPS. Both drop resolution when action gets to heretic. :|

No, Xbox 360 version can run up to 1080p. And even with dynamic scaling the Xbox 360 version runs at a higher resolution (1152×720 for 360 and 640×720 on PS3).

1. Scaling does absolutely nothing.

2. Both the 360 and Ps3 versions run as low as 640x720.

lol we are not in 2007 anymore where multi plats were superior on the 360. Things have changed. Get with the times! You are stuck in the past. Now a days all multi plats are either 98% identical or slightly superior on the PS3 P.s And were you trying to say you own both console versions of Rage? Anyway, here are some quick facts that I will leave you with You need to insall the 360 version to get it up to the level of the PS3 version. And from what I remember the 360 version needs like 10 discs to be played. ( I'm obviously exaggerating and joking, but you should get the jest of it)

"It seems to be running at 640x720 on PS3 while Xbox 360 is in the region of 896x720. In the bottom shot, we're again seeing 640x720 on the PlayStation 3, while 360 renders the same scene at 1152x720." -

"...based on our experience, Rage on Xbox 360 manages to maintain the illusion of a full high definition presentation even when it is switching between various resolutions: there's just the odd shimmering visible in the aliasing every now and again but overall integrity of the effect is sound. The effect on PlayStation 3 seems to be much more frequent and the resolution drops are significantly more noticeable. "

"In terms of the consoles, the purchase recommendation is very straightforward: Rage is an easy win for the Xbox 360 - if you have the hard drive attached. The dynamic resolution scaling technology works more effectively on the Microsoft platform, and there are very few instances where you feel or even recognise that you're playing a sub-HD experience - unfortunately the same cannot be said for the PlayStation 3 where the visual sleight of hand is not quite so effective."

Quotes from Digital Foundary. Xbox 360 version IS superior.

So its superior because of some slight resolution increase in some instances over thr PS3 version lol If I showed you pics of Rage without labeling or telling you which one was which console version I bet you everything that you wouldn't be able to tell them apart Are you also forgetting that 360 users without a hard drive will get a TRUE SIGNIFICANTLY INFERIOR version to the PS3 version and that all 360 users need multiple discs?

The versons are so close that if you think the 360 version is king then you also think the PS3 version is. But anyway And IMO the horse back riding section in U3 with the stunningly breath taking vista and insanely detailed mountains and rock formations look better then console Rage's mega textures and mountains( and that was Rage's big graphical feature)

No, Xbox 360 version can run up to 1080p. And even with dynamic scaling the Xbox 360 version runs at a higher resolution (1152×720 for 360 and 640×720 on PS3).

KC_Hokie

It cannot run in 1080p. Don't know where you even got that from because it sure isn't in your DF article. Both consoles go at the lowest 640x720. Some scenes are lower on the PS3 than 360 and vice versa.

I did better. I read your article. Both are 720p and 60FPS a majority of the time.

lol...no! Read my last five or six posts. Digital Foundry said the Xbox 360 version is superior and runs at higher resolutions even when they drop down lower resolutions as needed.

[QUOTE="actionjunkie10"][QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]"It seems to be running at 640x720 on PS3 while Xbox 360 is in the region of 896x720.

KC_Hokie

So its superior because of some slight resolution increase in some instances over thr PS3 version lol If I showed you pics of Rage without labeling or telling you which one was which console version I bet you everything that you wouldn't be able to tell them apart Are you also forgetting that 360 users without a hard drive will get a TRUE SIGNIFICANTLY INFERIOR version to the PS3 version and that all 360 users need multiple discs?

It's still the superior version even if it's not lightyears ahead. It's still the best looking console game I've played this generation. And, again, I own both an Xbox 360 and PS3.

Id rather have a VERY slightly less resolution bump at small portions of the game then having to need muliple dics lol. The PS3 version is superior. And Rage is definitely one of the best looking multi plats ever, but I'd have to say that Uncharted 3's campaign impressed me a hell of lot more. There were times when I was playing Uncharted 3 and was thinking holy **** how is this even possible on consoles! Am I playing a PS4 game? Lol

That's why you install it, Einstein. I don't know anyone with an Xbox 360 without a harddrive these days.

And Rage on Xbox 360 is a superior looking game. You're entitled your opinion and so am I.

There are people who don't have a hard drive for the 360 wether you want to ignore that or not. And yeah, but you haven't even played Uncharted 3 so

P.S AGAIN for the second time. BOTH console versions of Rage are so close that if you believe the 360 version looks great then you believe the PS3 version looks great

[QUOTE="Blazerdt47"]

[QUOTE="o0HAPPY0o"] You must be confusing your own fantasies with reality or just plain trolling because DF did not say that.

o0HAPPY0o

Quote from Digital Foundry: "a game that somehow manages to eclipse the technical brilliance of its predecessor, offering up a range of graphical effects and physics work that is quite unlike anything else we've seen on the current generation platforms."

DF - It's fair to say that there are no new over-arching, groundbreaking technological ideas that enable amazing, never-seen-before gameplay opportunities in this sequel."

#what does that have to do with the graphics?

I read the article. The one where you're getting all of your information from. Their words, not mine. Maybe you need to read it over again.

Considering the core 360 is a good seller i would say a ton of 360 owners do have 360 without HDD.

Can't we just agree that UC3, Gears 3, KZ3, GoW3, Halo Reach, Crysis 2 and Rage all look great?

Yep, but its system wars, and you have to remember that fanboys are devoid of logic.

Just finished an all night UC3 playthrough, its a good game, I like the 2nd way better, in fact that scene in the Uncharted 2 when the helicopter blows away that room and everything in the room is flying everywere, so much going on on screen at that one time, that is one of the best moments I've had in gaming. I felt Uncharted 3 had none of those moments. It looked better but I found they sacrificed something, it just wasnt as much fun.

I would agree with this. In my short time in system wars I have been personally attacked, called a teenage boy etc. when the majority of my posts are about the pros of both consoles lol. There are a lot of immature and unintelligent people on this forum, but there are a few out there who seem to appreciate thinking.

Yeah, if you use logic the argument is dead, both can match the other, and the right developer makes the difference. If you've played Gears and UC3, it should be obvious they're on the same level.

I am impressed. Naughty Dog put a lot of effort into making the environments look great. Tough to tell with someone of the images due to the lighting, or lackthereof but the other ones. Well I would put a vote to it as being up there with the most impressive game this year graphically.
