The thing about lighting engines, is that they 'shine' in realtime better than in still pictures. If what they said is true, and the lighting is based on inherant properties instead of preprogrammed surfaces, then everything using UE4 should have drastically improved dynamic lighting on all surfaces in every game... which should cut down costs on having to debug and program the lighting for every aspect of a game.

That is badass. And you can see the particle effects in full swing here along with the subtle lighting. I bet that tech demo will be very impressive in motion

Nice one. Looks cool. This is apparently the E3 demo too and the one devs saw a while ago. Someone on NeoGaf seen it and confirmed it as this.
Seems on par with CryEngine 3 IMO

I wonder how it runs too.CE3 runs pretty well now that it's finished. UE4 has to do a lot to compete

Same, but I think Epic know what they're doing, after all,UE3 was one of the most popular engines this Gen,it could run great, look great, and was very versatile...
I expect a lot from UE4,and I like those pics, also can't wait for some videos and more info...
BTW,I love your AC3 sig, can't wait to be able to do that,I love the AC franchise :)

The amount of games adopting cryengine 3 should motivate Epic Games :)
I wonder how third party developers are going to use either engines, hope they don't get lazy and not even bother with taking advantage of anything either engine offers.
Sometimes I think to my self why some developers simply didn't choose engines like these for the games they're making if the one they're using ATM is crap.

I'm sure it can compete as they are their main competitors. CE3 is one of the best engines around

Some engines are built specifically for certain genres for the purpose of maximizing all the necessary features that are specific to that genre
Epic is jelly cuz they don't have as many non-gaming contracts as Crytek do.
Crytek has a full studio dedicated to this and gaming is a secondary source of revenue for them.
Check out what an urban planning firm achieved with CryEngine 3:shock:

I'm liking that a lot more than the current lighting and shading in the UE3.
Me too. Can't wait to see the demo in motion. All that snow and those fire embers flying around. I wonder will it have particle lighting and shadowing effects like CE3 has. The sun going through water sprays is impressive looking so I hope UE4 can keep up
Those screenshots remind me of Skyrim in so many ways. The next Fallout needs to use UE4 it would just look insane.

A community member has ported over Battlefield 3's particle lighting shader to the UDK, so it will probably be possible in UE4[QUOTE="Wasdie"]

What about particle interaction with going around objects and such

Now that would be inpressive. Swirls of those fire pieces going around you in vortices as you run. or smoke being blown everywhere by choppers and actually adheres to where buildings are and goes around them rather than passing through
Is that too much to expect though outside of scripted stuff? dynamic particles like that would probably be a pain
Here is super highrez gallery of the image just click fullsize then click to zoom in the image all the way so your not scaling anything.

Damn right they do. I bet it will look very atmospheric and real in motion too.
Also at your other reply in reactive particles, that would be awesome. I've always wanted stuff like that. I hated playing BF3 and not seeing more dynamic stuff like that when choppers were flying around. They do a decent job already but I think that would be a good aspect to improve upon. Proper winds and dynamic particles.

Show me one game which looks as good as this:
Not exactly snow, but a lil somethin'-somethin' that looks just as good :P
They are impressive but there isn't much going on anyway so it's not hard to really pump up the visuals
Are any of you seriously consdering this to happen at playbale frames in a game enviornment any time soon? If they tried to make this into a full game the visuals would take a nosedive.
painguy1
Yeah, well the demo is playable in real time on a GTX 680.
They also turned the original UE3 demos into Gears of War.
The high res screens look good.... You would probably have to see everything in motion to capture all the detail, because even in the high res pics everything looks very soft, and not as clear as you would want it to be. I'm guessing it has something to do with the effects the game is using. And the particle effects look amazing. Now I want to see a next gen Zone Of Enders with those type of particle effects:shock:
On PC maybe....[QUOTE="DeadMan1290"][QUOTE="hummer700"]I'm excited. It looks great. I doubt that in-game would look that good though.AM-Gamer
I expect the next consoles to look like that if not ill stick with the PS3.
