Except it doesn't.

ferret-gamer

Better gameplay modes, better difficulty, better weapons, more weapons, more infected, more maps, better items, more items...it's clearly the better game by a large margin. Characters and maps are subjective (personally I'd say it's a toss-up for characters, with L4D2 having better maps).

it doesnt blow the original out of the water, it was just a good improvement. i still go back and play l4d1 occasionally

I went back and played a few rounds after playing L4D2 for 2 months. I won't be going back until the next DLC is out, that's for sure.

l4d is the best coop shooter around, it is so much fun, might not look the best but is a really fun game. Valve is a pc developer saying they don't like working on the ps3 is like saying why doesn't naughty dog put uncharted on pc. xbox is very similar to pc so it's no big deal to port it over. But really they need to hurry up with hl2 ep2 and hl3 rather than these l4d sequels.

I agree, I'd also like to stick Bungie and relic in there.

mo0ksi

I'm sorry, Relic? Company of Heroes is widely regarded as one of the best RTS games ever, and Opposing Fronts was a great expansion. Dawn of War 2 was also a great game, that just had a great expansion. All Blizzard has done this gen are WoW expansions. It's not like they're doing that much better.

too bad blizzard fanboys refuse to play other rts's then warcraft and warcraft 40k, i agree wotlk was terrible and ruined WOW.

Bungie was never bad. They went from good, to famous. Marathon was a great series, and from what I hear the myth series was solid. Oni is a **** up. SOme people liked it though. I personally thought it was a sack of crap as far as third person action games go. jg4xchamp

When you got Marathon and Myth under your belt, you're not just a "good" dev.

Talking about the orange box, I was disappointed graphically with HL 2 in the Orange box on the 360. I can't put my finger on it (as in, I may be wrong). But the texture quality wasn't as good as the PC version and the AA (looks like 2x) was lower than it should have been.

I have to be honest, with that game the graphics are important to me, because I love the amazing urban atmosphere. But the PC version hands down looks much better at a similer resolution to 720p.

I get the feeling the game was thrown in there and wasn't really optimised for consoles.

Valve has delivered the best multiplayer and co-op experiences this gen in Team Fortress 2 and the Left 4 Dead series, and excellent single-player experiences in Portal and Half-Life 2. If that's not "up to standard", I'd sure as hell like to see what is up to standard.

And lol @ comparing L4D2 to a Madden update. The sequel completely blows the original out of the water. To say the changes from L4D1 to L4D2 are anything but significant just says you haven't played it.

Slashkice
Why would i be here, saying i was underwhelmed by L4D2 if i haven't played it? What do i have to gain out of that situation? Lots of people have said some variation of 'Left 4 dead is the ultimate co-op game' but i really dont agree with that at all. What makes it the ultimate co-op game? What intrinsic elements does it have which make its co-op play so much better than everything else? It's a good game. It has 4 player co-op. I dont see how that makes it the greatest co-op experience ever.

Greatest ever? I dunno, but what makes it great is the high production values of the game itself, and that team work is required to win. If you like the idea of a Zombie Apocolypse, team based FPS, I don't see how the game could be much better.

The campaigns have multiple paths, and the "hordes" and enemy types/difficulty adjust to you as you play, enhanicing replability.

The game plays smooth, has modest system requirements, and good size community and free updates on he PC anyway.

Also why does everyone blame Valve full stop for L4D. L4D is Turtlerock studios, and Valve bought them up. It's not like they put the HL team on L4D, and gave up on HL.

It's good and all but, high production values? I would say the production values weren't the strong point of L4D 1 and 2.

Maybe bad choice of words but I mean it plays nice. Solid framerate, good level design, minimal crashes and glitches. It's not haphazardly thrown togetherr even if its not cutting edge.

Basically it's all nice and polished for the most part. Valve usually doesn't fail on that end.

Personally the fact that they had the balls to say that Sony purposely making their console hard to develop for and punishing them by not making games for them was one of the classiest things they did, and thus have earned my respect.
