these developers must love having millions of copies of their games being pirated.
thanks for the article hermit the frog.

Same must go for consoles too since some of their games are pirated in the millions.
And they also have the used game market that hurts developers.

I know, its so horrible, itrs not like the PS3 where nothing can be pirated or hacked............oh wait.these developers must love having millions of copies of their games being pirated.
FatCatPatRat
Yeah I feel sorry for developers cause millions of copies of their games on the Wii, 360, DS, and PSP get pirated...
Meanwhile in PS3-Land they just got word about t3h p!racy. /insert SC2 and BC2 sales here to show PC gaming is alive and kicking ass.

We already know this, valve doesn't need to say it, though what I thought was more interesting was the zeno clash devs saying PC gamers were more likely to try obscure and weird games. Says alot about why the current trend in console gaming is basically to play it safe.

Oh, you have the numbers to prove this right? Since console Piracy is untrackable (why DL a game when I go to a mall in Toronto and buy 10 360 games for $5 and mod a console for another $30?). your points are invalid as Piracy isn't that rampent. If it where GOG, Gamers Gate, and Steam would be on their death beds.EDIT: And nice link, just a reminder EA takes most of the money when they publish a game, so They made money, but not the devs. Crytek is full of it in that article.

i dont need numbers. We all know piracy is bigger on the PC and we all know its so much easier to pirate on the PC. When I was in high school all the kids were playing Halo CE in the computer lab with cracked illegal copies.

Yeah but who cares? If I like a game I buy it, don't care about the pirates, it's their life. I contribute my own share to the developer to make great games. And a lot of people do that on PC. Wich makes sequels possible like Stalker 2, Witcher 2, Diablo 3, GW2, Crysis 2 so I do not understand what point you are trying to make. And also the best FPS developer in the world just said PC is centre of Innovation so noone cares about your **** opinion lol.these developers must love having millions of copies of their games being pirated.

The fact that PC games are highly pirated doesn't mean it's not the platform of innovation. Developers are going multiplatform, not jumping to consoles. It goes both ways. PC still has the highest developer support, the most games and is also an oasis for indie developers. The landscape of PC gaming might be changing, but that's mostly due to digital distribution than anything else. Piracy also shouldn't be treated as lost sales. If a game is selling great, why bring up piracy? To reminisce about what could have been? Nothing can stop piracy, the developer just has to appeal to the consumers and it seems to be working considering the positive numbers and developer support. 2011 also is looking like a fantastic year for PC gaming, is that due to piracy as well?
OK this is my last topic for this week im creating, trolling a but to much I admit. Nut just read this article form today on Eurogamer.net and could not let it pass. The King has Spoken Also, inb4 sh*tstorm. The PC platform is a "centre of innovation" and key to the future of gaming according to Valve boss Gabe Newell. Speaking to Develop, Newell explained, "We see [the PC] as the centre of innovation of everything that's going on, whether it's microtransactions, MMOs, free-to-play, or something like CityVille which after its first month has 84 million people playing. "To us, this is just an indication of why open platforms are where innovations are going to occur." Even thought the traditionally PC-focussed studio behind the likes of Half Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead has now embraced console development too, Newell insisted that he was "tremendously excited about the future of PC gaming." Despite many commenters' claims that PC gaming has seen better days, a number of high profile developers have joined Newell in sticking up for the platform in recent months. Back in October, Blizzard's Rob Pardo said, "I always laugh because as long as I've been in the games industry, every year I'm asked 'is PC gaming dead?' But it keeps on growing despite the fact it's been pronounced dead 20 times." And in September, id Software boss Tim Willits told Eurogamer, "In my opinion the PC will always be the core of the gaming industry - it is the timeless stable platform that as developers we will always be able to rely on. "Unlike consoles, the PC doesn't disappear because one company decided it wasn't profitable or decided to make a new version. The PC platform is always evolving but staying stable." Next up from Valve is Portal 2, due out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 21st April. Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-01-06-valve-pc-is-centre-of-innovationFusiondonut
I would like to ask Mr. Newell how he sleeps at night when poor Microsoft isn't getting paid any royalties for the software sold on Steam.
Your "PC" platform isn't bound by any rules and regulations for increasing Microsoft's revenue pools, and I think this is the most serious drawback. Mr. Newell really needs to think about Microsoft's profit margins before he goes off on any more silly tangents.
Probably because you don't play games on PC and don't ever notice any changes within the industry? Y'know that whole "LAN gaming" thing? PC. Y'know that whole "internet gaming" thing? PC. How about MMOs? PC. Okay, well how about downloadable content? PC. Internet-distributed patches? PC. Okay, how about Digital distribution? Oh, PC again. Weird, huh. That you "haven't seen" any of the stuff I mentioned when Sony has blatantly been trying to play catchup, along with MS and finally Nintendo straggling behind.Haven't seen too much innovation in PC lately TBH...

If by nobody you mean the almost 5 million copies sold for Crysis and Warhead(not even counting Maximum Edition),then I guess you have a point...[QUOTE="FatCatPatRat"][QUOTE="Fusiondonut"] Yeah but who cares? If I like a game I buy it, don't care about the pirates, it's their life. I contribute my own share to the developer to make great games. And a lot of people do that on PC. Wich makes sequels possible like Stalker 2, Witcher 2, Diablo 3, GW2, Crysis 2 so I do not understand what point you are trying to make. And also the best FPS developer in the world just said PC is centre of Innovation so noone cares about your **** opinion lol.Fusiondonut
yes, i loving chucking a 'lol' at the end to make my post not seem filled with rage, don't you?
i can tell you're mad. mad that the almighty PC has higher levels of piracy. mad that because of this piracy PC developers aregradually jumpingto consoles.
They are doing it for the quick cash because console peasants will even eat sh*t when handed over. In the meanwhile we silently get the superior versions with dedicated server, free DLC, Mods. And developers who jump ship are **** anyway so you can keep'em.well actually, i dont restrict myself to console gaming or PC gaming, so i actually get EVERYTHING.
everything.

I'm a hermit and I don't restrict myself either. But PC gaming is still where its at :). And I get to play the Gaming Master Race card on SW too lol."As of June 2008, the number of personal computers in use worldwide hit one billion, while another billion is expected to be reached by 2014" Credit goes to wikipedia. While your regurgitating an obvious fact (also keep in mind those numbers don't include private hosting, or ftp like Rapid Shares), the PC market eclipses the consoles. Why else are there over 40 million people playing farmville alone. Fact of the matter is it's completely unsurprising. Yet the PC is still the most developed for, and one of the most profitable development platforms for a broader range of developers than any console system (let alone aspiring developers). Interesting that.I'm no mathematician, but I know when a platform has higher numbers of piracy 8)

Weird, huh. That you "haven't seen" any of the stuff I mentioned when Sony has blatantly been trying to play catchup, along with MS and finally Nintendo straggling behind.[QUOTE="Brownesque"][QUOTE="GreenGoblin2099"]
Haven't seen too much innovation in PC lately TBH...

Seriously you guys... is "lately" so hard to understand??
It's very easy to understand. It's funny...the most innovative thing Valve has done this generation was Portal - and even that was mostly conceptualized by a group of college students that Valve bought out. If Valve wants to talk as an authority on innovation, why don't they actually do something innovative?jalexbrownCompanies have down times. I think Valve has earned the right to have a break.

They're not taking a break; they're making Portal 2. :| I'm sure they have something else on the side that we don't know about yet, but I have my doubts that it will be all that innovative. It'll probably be another sequel to something that will do almost nothing to push the bar (a la Left 4 Dead 2).
