Yea totally. People were playing 3d games on accelerated graphic cards, with the first internet infrastructure they were able to form clans, communities and tournaments. You still were playing 2d Mario at the same time :D

I know, its so horrible, itrs not like the PS3 where nothing can be pirated or hacked............oh wait.[QUOTE="lordreaven"][QUOTE="FatCatPatRat"]
these developers must love having millions of copies of their games being pirated.
thanks for the article hermit the frog.

piracy is more prevalent on the PC. you know this. i know this.
even the almight Crytek knows this
its prevalent on the pc, for sure. but have you seen the console piracy figures? piracy is all around. its even on mobile phones now. its just easier to do it on the pc. thats the reason why people pirate computer games more than your ps3/xbox games. you really think pc gamers are the devil? just imagine having the ease of access to pirated games on a console; your piracy would be through the charts.too bad valve has turned into a crappy company.
Where the hell is half life 3 and a new engine?
goodtobeback
This is an article about innovation. It would be contradictory to then talk about the 1 billionth FPS to come out.
[QUOTE="Evolution-X0"]PC players are mostly full of elitist douches. Why would I possibly want to be apart of that community.coreybg
And you know this because you're a PC gamer, right?
He is definitely wrong, as a PC gamer amongst PC gamers we aren't elitist douches. On a console war forum, where people say "720p" is enough, and "I'm as good with a controller as you are with a mouse", yeah, we're a bunch of d-bags (myself included).[QUOTE="Evolution-X0"]PC players are mostly full of elitist douches. I've seen enough of them to know.. I was PC gamer before the 360 came out. If you don't agree then whatever, don't get butt hurt about it.Oh, you have the numbers to prove this right? Since console Piracy is untrackable (why DL a game when I go to a mall in Toronto and buy 10 360 games for $5 and mod a console for another $30?). your points are invalid as Piracy isn't that rampent. If it where GOG, Gamers Gate, and Steam would be on their death beds.[QUOTE="lordreaven"]

i dont need numbers. We all know piracy is bigger on the PC and we all know its so much easier to pirate on the PC. When I was in high school all the kids were playing Halo CE in the computer lab with cracked illegal copies.
But if you do want numbers, it was not but two weeks ago when IGN posted this article

I'm no mathematician, but I know when a platform has higher numbers of piracy 8)
Those are just downloads, In the real world people who play pirated console games buy their games from a bloke down the street for £4 a copy.
That one bloke downloads a game and redistributes it to every kid on his street for their pocket money. On the next street theres another bloke doing the same. PC gamers dont go to a bloke down the street because they dont NEED a disc to play the game, they can just download it themselves.
Oh and then theres used games, none of the money from used game sales goes to the developers, not a single penny. PC's dont have used games anymore because pretty much everything is done through digital distribution and games can be sold for much cheaper when theres no royalty fees and when you cut out the middle man.
PC players are mostly full of elitist douches. Why would I possibly want to be apart of that community.Evolution-X0Says the elitist douche.
No not all but these things combined made this gen possible. So be thankfull for that or else you'd still be playin NES games.[QUOTE="Fusiondonut"][QUOTE="GreenGoblin2099"]

So I'm right, haven't seen any innovation in PC lately... neither have you.

I've seen enough of them to know.. I was PC gamer before the 360 came out. If you don't agree then whatever, don't get butt hurt about it. cool. insult, then say you were once a pc gamer; so that it makes it okay to say such a thing. then end your post with another offensive remark. and for the record, we arent elitist. you guys post blasphemy, we come back. making us douche bags. then we post a thread here and there saying that our platform is pretty much superior, now we're elitists. its not being elitist, its having a point and having competence in arguments/disagreements/discussions. if you dont like it when people dont resort to insults when talking about games, then talk with your console peers, they are full of insults. i do not have enough time to tell you how wrong you are and how horrible your people can be. this is extremely ridiculous that anyone would think this way."hermit the frog" was the best part of this thread.Zero5000XIndeed. The delicious (and hopefully intentional) irony of this post is pretty good too.

Why wasnt Portal 2 PC exclusive? tell us that Gabe, Blizzard still make PC exclusives...
HaloinventedFPS
L4d 1/2, Half Life 1/2, TF2 and Portal weren't exclusive to the PC either so your point?
Just because it isn't exclusive to the PC doesn't mean the PC version won't better because all Valve games are better on the PC then consoles.
The platform that is used to produce said games is the centre of innovation?
Its like a carpenter saying that he hammer is the centre of building anything.
Just another attempt by valve to appeal to their nerdy fanbase with obvious answers

GreenGoblin2099
Cloud Technology = Saved games, stats, settings, achievements tied to accounts.
Phasing technology for massive multiplayer worlds.
Episodic gaming.
Social casual gaming genre ala Facebook gaming.
Games with Free-to-Play models funded by microtransactions.
The rise of the Downloadable Gaming Marketplace ala Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive, and GOG.
All recent innovations, if by recent we mean "since or a little bit before the beginning of this 'generation'".

Did you even read what was said?LOL!! The reason they started making console games (including Valve) was because they weren't selling the amount of copies they needed to make a sizable profit. Why do you think STEAM was created? lol!! Had to find an alternative way of making money. Valve is seeing growth mainly because of STEAM. Get rid of STEAM and all those MMO's with large fees and lets see how much PC gaming grows. They have DDC and Facebook gaming apps to thank really.these developers must love having millions of copies of their games being pirated.
thanks for the article hermit the frog.
FatCatPatRat
Well, that's a given. The open development on the platform encourages this.
The only console that seems to have exemplified a remarkable amount of innovation on has been the Wii.

Get rid of boxed copies and all those console games with high launch prices and see how much consoles grow.
Seriously, that's undoubtely one of the most stupid arguments to ever come out of SW.
and yet the first words out of Hermits mouths on good games are....
Star craft...counter strike...etc I keep hearing of this innovative nature...and yet whats continually played or used as high quality are the same old same old...face it hermits just like consoles the truely innovative is niche and will remain that way.
Aside from motion gaming that has proved to have limited use since most games don't translate well, what are some innovative things consoles have done? This generation of coarse, and be sure not to mention stupid things like downloading old games or LIVE.and yet the first words out of Hermits mouths on good games are....

This made my day. Insecurity at its finest.
But its true.
Here's a PC gamer quote earlier from this thread:
They are doing it for the quick cash because console peasants will even eat sh*t when handed over. In the meanwhile we silently get the superior versions with dedicated server, free DLC, Mods. And developers who jump ship are **** anyway so you can keep'em.Fusiondonut

Bashing PC are just as common as elitists. So it's justified.the PC sticks to its basic genres. calling it the center of innovation is a laugh (though calling anything the center of innovation is a laugh). and those are PC-centric developers-The-G-Man-
Yes, because Penumbra, Amnesia, Natural Selection 1/2, Stalker, Witcher are basic genre's.

Correct me if im wrong
but im pretty sure 360/PS3 are just trying to emulate the PC, thats what they are, dumbed down PC's, only Nintendo still seems intrested in making a gaming console instead of making a multi-media machine that can also play games
well too be fair, PS3 is now an open platform, so i cant really call it a dumbed down PC

I'm no mathematician, but I know when a platform has higher numbers of piracy 8)
See the problem with these Numbers is that most console Pirates buy burnt copies form retailers (see Pacific Mall in T.O.). Most Pirates on console don't know/have time to burn copies and what not, but those who can make a killing by offering this service. And then you have some PC pirates who torent a game just to try it out (If teh game lacks a demo, or torrent a game because the Pirate version is more stable).Oh right, pirated copies prove that pc isnt the centre of innovation..
