I am not pleased. I absolutely hate Microtransactions of any sort, no matter what company they are from. Lets just hope they don't prohibit people from making skins and force us to buy their own *cough* console *cough*. I don't like the idea, but if it doesn't go beyond what it is right now, then it should work out.

Why is everyone so ignorant with their posts!? It's not game breaking, you cant buy all items, nor is it preventing community maps, etc. There NEVER were community weapons other than the ones valve released so whats the big deal? Stop crying.

Thanks a lot 360 users.

This. M$ sure was a good influence for console gaming. It is slowly making everyone money hungry douchebags in their image.

Personally i think they ruined TF2 back when they stated achievements. Though i guess this plays into the TF2 crowd and allows the older players with less time on their hands to use all the extras.

since when were options a bad thing?

Pixel-Pirate

From the FAQ:

Some items CANNOT BE FOUND OR CRAFTED.

So it isn't options. Some items will only have one option. Buy it.

Q: Will I have to spend money to remain competitive?

A: No. Any items affecting gameplay, and even most purely cosmetic items, will still be obtainable simply by playing the game. So uh yeah I think they're just saying some cosmetic items will have to be bought, oh noes.

When did Valve become so greedy...... oh wait steam! All gaming micro-transactions are optional; that shouldn't stop people from complaining about it.

lol? there have been DLC and microtransactions on games before the 360 was even created

Yes but it was due to Micro$$haft's succes to capitalize on in that made it to a succes story today.

except Valve isnt charging for anything that cant be attained during regular gameplay...nor are they charging for maps or updates.

You guys do realize all items in the shop can be obtained through gameplay and from the looks of the stats don't give much of a significant advantage. Valve has also promised that they will never charge for maps and free updates will continue to come.

Ragingbear505
Actually. Read this. "Some items can never be found or crafted, only bought But these are a small number of cosmetic items. Valve are strict about making sure those that give you "gameplay advantages" are findable for free. There are also a few items that are findable but not purchasable."

Skins for weapons and those kind of cosmetic extras used to be free in PC due modders. Fortunatelly I don't play Valve games, so this disgusting news don't affect my games.

....

They ARE free. Durr.

You just have the option of buying them.

There is also an in-built downside of purchasing items from the store: you CANNOT trade them or use them to craft.

I am not sure what to make of this, on one side this is optional and may make people happier as well as fill Valve's wallets. On the other hand, this may anger Valve's customer base and damage Valve's reputation, judging by this thread it is doing both.

But seriously they are completely optional and any gameplay changing items can already be acquired in the game. This is great for people who dont play TF2 a lot as now they will also be able to obtain the weapons and hats that interest them. Options don't hurt right?

I actually wouldn't even mind it for people who couldn't keep up with the game wanting to buy new items, the problem is I doubt these people want to spend $10 for a hat or $5 on a weapon for a game they're not going to play that often.

All the actual gameplay effecting items can be found for free. Who gives a crap. If you're so desperate for a hat go pay the money, they're just giving you the option to do so which is what people were asking anyway. I saw a guy find the new soldier hat and he crafted the two other items to get his class buff thing, without paying. It's not like Valve is making it so if you want new items you HAVE to pay. They're still better than pretty much every corporation out there. I mean they also added 50+ new items today...

So what? It's just an extra option, it's not mandatory and it's not like Call of Duty where if you don't buy DLC you're missing a significant part of the game.

So Valve creates an entire games worth of content and adds it for free (TF2), but then gives you the option to buy items you could otherwise find, and its now "disgusting" and "terrible" news. Are we all being serious?

Pretty sure it's a vocal minority. I was playing the game earlier and almost everyone I played with was talking about how good the update is. As far as I'm concerned Valve still has the best support for it's customers out there and that probably won't change any time soon. I mean we're getting free L4D updates in a few days too. I guess this isn't really anything new after all since some people are mad at valve for having updates and want to be able to play vanilla TF2 so i guess it's par for the course.

The highest anything goes for is 5 Dollars (for weapons) and the average price for each is slightly less than 2 Dollars, I could see plenty of people buy stuff like this. If only to catch up.

People are mad about the updates? That's sad.

But you're probably right on the vocal minority thing. Probably just another L4D2 scenario where everyone screams the game should have been DLC (because, more campaigns, weapons, characters, etc. than the entire original game = DLC).

Or in this case, where giving more options should have been free. Or something.

L4D, COD series and BFBC2 would like a word with you. Those are just the games with worse communities that I play as well. TF2 generally has a pretty nice community who will help out new players and give advice, dunno who you're playing with.

Unless you play TF2 and, you know, don't want to be destroyed by the scout with his purchased upgrades that make him far superior.

Really. I see this as making anyone who doesn't buy this stuff, a liability to their team. And if you play competitively? Not an option, you either buy it or stop playing competitively.

Also why do people say "It's optional"? Of course it's technically optional. I think it would be illegally for valve to forcibly charge every TF2 players account without consent.

Weapon unlocks in TF2 arent upgrades, they are side-grades they still have pros and cons, no unlockable is definitively"better" then the original or other unlocks. I have all the old scout unlocks and still use the stock items because i dislike the downfalls of the unlocks. You are not a liability to your team if you dont have a milk bottle or a fish, those items are not better than the pistol or the sandman they just offer an alternative playing style.

You can get all this stuff in game anyway. Valve probably did it to try and stop people from selling their stuff on ebay now that there is a trading system.

Cool, watering down the game even more. DLC/MT's are the bane of gaming. Ugh, I'm thinking of completely stopping. I haven't played many games in the last couple years anyway.

No thanks. I'll go play a better FPS...Like Halo. Yeah, I said it.Pixel-Pirate

>implying you played TF2 in the first place

You are dense. These items are not "upgrades." The various item loadouts simply promote different playstyles, not make you more powerful.

You also do NOT have to buy them..I've already crafted a few. The only things you have to buy is stuff like the dye, item nametags, and the minigames. Similarly, there is also stuff that you CANNOT BUY AT THE STORE, and must find by playing. Please get a clue before you speak.

Also, while I do like Halo, it is not even in the same league as TF2.

[QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]You can get all this stuff in game anyway. Valve probably did it to try and stop people from selling their stuff on ebay now that there is a trading system. lawlessx
....people were doing this? seriously?

yes i actually had a few friends where were planning on selling their rarer items on ebay when trading came out.

[QUOTE="Pixel-Pirate"]So you have the option to get completely destroyed by everyone else for not wanting to shell out extra cash?

No thanks. I'll go play a better FPS...Like Halo. Yeah, I said it.

>implying you played TF2 in the first place

You are dense. These items are not "upgrades." The various item loadouts simply promote different playstyles, not make you more powerful.

I don't think the gameplay of either can be compared fairly. They share a genre (FPS), but that's about it.
