I hate to see what the TF2 Steam forum is like now lol. Again this is just adding some more options to getting items, it not a big deal.

The new items dont make or break the game. If you dont want them, then dont get them. Dont force other people not to get them just because u dont want it. I actually wouldn't even mind it for people who couldn't keep up with the game wanting to buy new items, the problem is I doubt these people want to spend $10 for a hat or $5 on a weapon for a game they're not going to play that often.
Maroxad
The highest anything goes for is 5 Dollars (for weapons) and the average price for each is slightly less than 2 Dollars, I could see plenty of people buy stuff like this. If only to catch up.

Advantages? Yes, because not in a million years will you get any of those items for free.
It just getting the items without having to wait to get them when playing, so I think you can still get them without paying.

good point... after spending hours playing at my very best to unlock a sweet item, its gonna make me feel awesome to know everyone else simply payed 5 bucks to get it.
games should let me buy a higher K/D ratio too... im tired of having to be good at a game to keep mine up.
selling in game perks in no way negatively impacts a game. amirite.

doesnt matter if its op.. it removes the value of working for an item. I have never played TF... so i dont know any specifics about the game.
but earning in game items stands to show what players in the game have earned through gameplay... if you allow people to purchase those items, it removes to value of them.
Kind of like if you could buy an olympic gold medal and there is no way to tell who earned theirs and who bought theirs. For those people that earned theirs it completely removes the importance of the achievement.

So if in world of warcraft you could purchase a max level character and all the best in game items for $100, you dont think that would negatively impact the game... since you can still achieve all that through gameplay?

How does it remove the value? It simply gives you a choice. For some people, obtaining the items is easy enough without buying them. Spending a couple hours is likely going to be far more appealing and rewarding than spending $50+ unlocking everything. Its the tradeoff. Sure its easy, but its real money. A lot of people are going to weigh their options. And again, the items give you no advantage. They're simply different. The value of the item is up to you. Don't want to work for it? Then don't. Want to? Go for it. It doesn't matter if everyone else has it, and if anything you have the advantage using it because you worked to get it, you have more experience with the game, you know what you can do with the item.[QUOTE="dzaric"]

To be fair to the WoW mount (which is hard) you'd probably have to spend a good month grinding to build the coin necessary to buy it in the game.
Which they did to justify the ridiculous $25 price. It's insane.
edit - and thousands of people bought it as soon as the mount was released, only validating the decision to monetize it to that degree.

Don't play games that allow cheats either. Someone else obtained something without work, ruins the sense of achievement. Don't play any PC game ever then. Someone modded the game to obtain something without working for it. Ruins the sense of achievement. Don't play any console or handheld game ever then, someone used a Gameshark/Action Replay to obtain something without working for it. Ruins the sense of achievement.:| See how that sounds?
Get real. The sense of achievement is there because you did something, you earned it, they didn't. This is like if you got an A on a test and someone else got an A but they cheated. You both got A's but you earned yours. This isn't some cruel scheme to take away your "sense of achievement", its a way for people with less time to experience everything the game offers. How sickening
You can still find every single weapon in the store through random drops or crafting.
Soon you'll be able to craft the new hats too. Valve hasn't fallen to Activision, I don't see Activision allowing ways to get some of the CoD maps for free.
They put the store in there because they knew as soon as Trading would be released, people would run to eBay and auction off their items for real money. The items you buy from the store can't be traded or crafted anyway.
People need to start doing research before opening their mouths.

and what about when you list your GPA on a resume from an academic institution that sells As... your high GPA will be worthless. It loses value in the eyes of everyone around you.
I like it, since i haven't found a hat in over a year.......and i wnat my FEZ!!!!! (i don't care about the bonus, the hat is awesome)
12 hours playing, non-idling, TF2 yielded me;
2 Darwin Shields for Sniper
1 Batallion's Back-Up
1 Purple paint to huff at my own leisure
2 Locked crates which I need to buy a key for with real currency
I wouldn't call this a success...
So you can unlock weapons by:
- getting achievements
- random drops
- crafting
- or paying for them
Who is going to pay for them unless you are really (really) lazy?R4gn4r0k
So, you think it's ok to price a hat for 17 euros? As long as nobody buys it, right?
YOU NEED THE HATS TO COMPLETE THE SETS! Hats are rare drops, and there are almost a hundred of them now. There's a small chance of you finding hat, but it's practically impossible to get the hat YOU WANT. So if you want to stay competetive you have to buy the hat for 17 euro, or hope you will find it randomly (lol).
Also, you can now find crates which needs a key to unlock. These keys are buy only, but the crates have almost a 33% drop chance. I can't believe Valve has fallen this low...
After playing with this update for awhile I'm fine with it. It added more depth to the game, and the microtransactions were added to set a price for items so ebay traders couldn't abuse them. That being said, some of the prices for items suck. 5$ to name my gun? :?

They have to set a price for items because of the trading system. The hats are 17$ so people can't go on ebay and charge 80$ more. They DEFINATELY have to fix the stat bonus hats though.
