http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo_BDMUC8RkThis is a very early video of Crysis 2. Notice how the slide seen in this video is merely a defensive tactic used to get behind cover. This conflicts with what we see in the brand new multiplayer trailer, which shows the slide as an obvious offensive measure.
Master_ShakeXXX
How do you know it wasn't already planned?
It's not like that video somehow proves it was impossible to use it offensively.
The sliding already being there actually makes your thesis (even) less likely.

Well again, I'm speculating. I never denied that. I'm just suggesting that there's definitly a possibility here that Vanquish is influencing other shooters.

Oh, so you are speculating again. Sorry, since I asked for some kind proof in my previous post, I didn't expect that.
Anyways, I don't really have anything left to say.
I already showed why from a development time point of view is an unlikely scenario, it has been showed that those games had sliding earlier and that other FPS's have done it before, so unless there's more than more speculation, I don't really think there's much left to discuss.

You're right, probably not much else to discuss. But you're a brave lad and I commend you for showing off some rather excellent debating skill. Ah, takes me back to the time when me an Arach were going back an forth about MGS4 being the greatest game ever made. Those were the days. But anyways, I'm not bored anymore and I thank you for that :D

[QUOTE="heysharpshooter"]I heard that a lot. Many of my friends beat it in 5 hours. After playing it I think the franchise has great potential, hopefully in the sequel. It needs much more variety in enemies and some longevity. Maybe then it'll be something to talk about. As is, it's not much more than an over-hyped tech demo.I played the demo for Vanquished... kind of fun for like 10 mintues, but I would never pay 60 dollars for it...

Vanquish didn't influence anything. Vanquish had rocket powered slides. IDK how this fits in with everything else. And leave it to Master Shake to make another Vanquish thread :P

Well atleast it isn't MortgageMan007 making a Black Ops one

The way I see it, potentially every Vanquish thread that I make = 10 copies of Vanquish getting sold. It's my power of hyperbole and persuasion I tell ya :D
Seriously though, game of da year.
No, this is:
Master Shake's Vanqush fetish:P, but in all honesty I do need to play the game and the sliding idea was bloody brilliant. Most certainly one of the most innovative new features.
F.E.A.R. did it, as stated above, others are behind the curve.caughtjooThis doesn't mean anything. Kill Switch had one of the first 3rd person cover systems but it wasn't until Gears that it really took off. So yes Vanquish has had influence on the current market of shooters coming out.
first of all, these are all FPS.
their premise and promise of parkour-themed action was apparent long before Vanquish was ever brought to inception. especially brink and Crysis 2.
there is very little merit in this argument. vanquish was well received, that's fine. but it isn't at all revolutionary in any sense of the word.
All things considered, it really wouldn't be that surprising if Vanquish had such an influence. It's truly an extraodinary masterpiece, containing gameplay that could only be described as "legendary". It's the stuff that timeless classics are made of. Rest assured Vanquish in time will join the ranks of such highly respected shooters as Counter Strike, Halo CE, and Half-Life 2.
tc did you ever played mirror's edge, it came out before vanquish, sliding is quite commun in that game
This is bordering on Rikusaki levels of ridiculous and annoying affection for a product. All things considered, it really wouldn't be that surprising if Vanquish had such an influence. Three different shooters that are so close to release, implementing sliding mechanics that are both a strategic and offensive maneuver and one that is an integral element of the gameplay? Vanquish definitly played a part in this. Looks like Vanquish, next to Gears, is one of the most revolutionary shooters of this generation. Say what you will about other games doing it first, but Vanquish is the game to both re-invent it into a crucial strategic gameplay element, and to popularise it. Discuss.
All three of those games have been in development since before the first announcement of Vanquish was even made... Pretty sure even Brink videos of the SMART system were shown well before the Vanquish unveiling. This is bordering on Rikusaki levels of ridiculous and annoying affection for a product.Yeah. It's kind of weird.[QUOTE="Master_ShakeXXX"]

Influential and revolutionary are far from the same thing. Crysis 2 and to a lesser extent Bulletstorm have obviously copied the idea from Vanquish, but the slide in Brink isn't necessarily derived from that game. Let's not forget that sliding was also in previous games, though less excessive. GRAW and FEAR are 2 examples.
No. It is no more innovative, nor any more highly regarded, as Black (which did in fact innovate probably more than Vanquish, destructable environments et al), which very few people would rank alongside games such as those you listed. Vanquish didn't popularise online gaming, bring an entirely new player into the console market or introduce the use of physics in an FPS, it popularized a bottom sliding system. Also note how each of the games you've listed have sold at least 6 million each, whilst Vanquish has struggled to even get within a tenth of that, all of those games have garnered scores of 94+ on metacritic, Vanquish is 10 points lower. I struggle to see how Vanquish is classic material in any way. Good game, yes, timeless classic, you're having a laugh. All things considered, it really wouldn't be that surprising if Vanquish had such an influence. Thats pushing it a litte, Vanquish is just the flavour of the month, it will probably become a cult classic, but I doubt many people will remeber it like Halo CE or Half Life mostly because of the fact that it dosen't do enough to differentiate itself from all the other shooters out there on the market. Halo CE and Half Life were both revolutionary, and they are remebered for reinvigorating the FPS genre, Vanquish didn't have that effect, sure it has a kick ass campaign, but it has an extremely weak story and the characters are also really forgettable, the only really redeeming quality is the gameplay, but the most you will get out of Vanquish is probably 3-4 playthroughs ( 1 on normal,1 on hard,1 on god hard, and 1 just for kicks ) there is not really any incentive to replay the game apart from the pangloss statues, and after youve done all that, its only about 20-30 hours of gameplay, and I know that classic games like Halo CE and Counterstrike, I have played for well over 100 hours each. Vanquish is a great game don't get me wrong, but the slidey knee mechanic just isn't that revolutionary, take it away and its basically Lost Planet 3.All things considered, it really wouldn't be that surprising if Vanquish had such an influence. It's truly an extraodinary masterpiece, containing gameplay that could only be described as "legendary". It's the stuff that timeless classics are made of. No, this is:
super meat boy felt more like an insanity test than an actual game.
You're telling this to the guy who just spent this day and the previous one doing The Kid's levels, Dark Cotton Alley and Dark The End (Beat them all, finally got 200/200 and Meat Ninja Boy =D). The game is flawless, I can't wait for the two major updates Team Meat is going to announce at GDC.

now do all of the levels with Tofu Boy.I love how Team Meat troll-rolled PETA for publicity. Apparently, it worked.
Edit: I tried Tofu Boy -- he can't get past the first level, lol. It's a shame Team Meat can't/won't put him on the 360 version. I'd love to get some leaderboard high scores with him.
Those games have been in development for awhile now and Vanquish just came out.
Yeah, they totally copied it. Just like how Black Ops copied Reach with a credit system amirite?
