Eh. Selling a system for BC makes sense, tbh. It's expensive to include that (it requires hardware) and most people don't care. But having it available for the people that do is a good thing. On one hand, I am really happy that they are not adopting always online DRM BS, but on the other hand, it seems like they are trying to sell two machines that could easily be handled by one. This is almost too bizzare to be true, but this is MS we're talking about after all.
Â
I give this rumor a 6/10 . It gets points for debunking the always online stuff, but the double sku thing seems almost like a sad attempt to make the overall cost of owning a 720 up a bit to cover for Kinect. We will see.

you don't have to buy the set up box. It is basically a roku on steroids and it works hand in hand with your nextbox letiing it play 360 games. It's a great move by Microsoft. Hardcore gamers will get the Durango or even both. Casuals will get the set up box. Everyone is covered and everyone is happy. Â Microsoft is trying to appeal to all gamers and even people who are just into tech. Honestly if they execute this right they could run away with next gen.Â

So from my understanding the Xbox Mini will be a low cost media machine that is able to playback Xbox On Demand Games. Once its connected to the Xbox 720, you can pop in a 360 game into the 720 and playback those games via the Xbox Mini. It's a great move by Microsoft but one again they start the gen with significant add-ons. Nonstop-Madness
Well, it beats the hell out of not having a hardware based BC solution (Sony). The streaming idea is legit, but how the f*ck will they know what games you own on disc?
[QUOTE="StrongBlackVine"][QUOTE="super600"]
I was talking about the cows that keep on bashing the 720 because of the always online rumor. No one knows how powerful the 720 is yet.
dommeus
Eh I will be buildig a gaming rig as well so I will just pull that card if need be and I like Sony exclusives better. I don't think it will be more powerful though.
Pull that card? Lol, Winning the SW street cred vote. Your life must be so worth livingProbably a lot more worth living than yours, rat.
Not sure why if someone were given a choice between the current 360 and this new one that they'd choose the new one. Not being able to play discs on the new one would be a huge turn-off to me.
Wickerman777
It's a trap.
Hopefully these rumours prove accurate, at least MS will be in the race if the Durango plays used games and online isn't a requirement. The remaining negatives they need to address are the Kinect 2.0 and Live pricing issues. The 360-mini add-on sounds like a terrible idea though, going to create Wii U style confusion among consumers, I can see this being about as popular as the hd-dvd add-on. JamDev
What about the weak hardware? That part of the rumor is still alive and well. Heck, just looking at the hardware alone had me thinking about switching to PS4 before this stuff about always online and mandatory Kinect caught on.
[QUOTE="Wickerman777"][QUOTE="godzillavskong"] "weaker hardware?" Worked out fine for the 360 against its cell powered competitor.Tessellation
There is a much larger gap between these specs and what was the case with PS3 and 360. And any advantage PS3 had was mostly wiped out by its complexity. That won't be the case this time.
the next xbox isn't 50% weaker like you said,is already been discussed several times at beyond3D..the rumored specs are 33% less powerful.Yeah, if you wanna get all word-policey about it I suppose you could say that. But if you simply change the wording to PS4 is 50% more powerful than Xbox 720 then the 50% figure is correct.

I don't think the disparity in hardware is going to be that big of a deal tbh. Look at the difference between high-end PCs and current gen console graphics; there is a massive disparity in power but you don't really see it on screen. Modern high end PCs are literally 20x more powerful than current gen consoles and all that power gives you the same games with the same character models and environment geometry running at higher resolutions with a few extra effects, it's nothing mind blowing. If that's all you get from 20 times the power, the PS4 being 1.5x more powerful than the Durango isn't going to make a whole lot of difference. It will be good fodder for SW point scoring, but other than that it won't be a major factor in deciding which console comes out on top next gen. I'm probably switching from MS to Sony next gen too, but not for the sake of slightly better versions of multiplats.this sound more likely than any other rumour out there. and this bc solution is better than sonys.Â

1) learn to math that is not 50% weaker.Â
2)if early rumors are wrong about always online and DRM why can't they be wrong about specs?

They probably won't unless you maybe purchased the game via PSN. My guess is that it'll be part of a PSN subscription of some sort like you get to access to 5 PS3 games per month or you get hours of gameplay deducted from a monthly total. The whole concept MS is aiming for seems a bit arbitrary. You have to purchase an add on to play your 360 games on the 720 when you most likely already have a 360 if you want that functionality. You repaying for that functionality when you could simply keep your old console. The Mini's BC is essentially aimed towards gamers who haven't owned a 360. Aside from the 360 BC, the Mini doesn't seem to offer any additional value to 720 owners. I could be wrong but I'll wait and see how this turns out. Could be a good incentive for someone like myself who never purchased a 360.[QUOTE="Renegade_Fury"]
So we will have an option for BC then. I like this rumor... a lot. :)

Lol, you should become a politician with that spin. You know damned well I meant the difference between them is 50%. I want to stick with Xbox but not if they are going to put a generic box out there. Considering that they are loaded with cash and Sony is broke I expected the next Xbox to smoke the PS4. At this point I'll accept just equal. But it being even equal would require them changing the hardware from what is rumored.

What schools are y'all going to? I never said it was half of PS4. If it were half then I would have said 100% weaker, not 50%. But whatever, if y'all want to play goofy semantics then fine, PS4 is 50% more powerful than Durango. It doesn't matter cuz you guys knew what I meant the first time and are just trying to be cute.

Dude, quit being a jerk and droning on endlessly about something meaningless. Stop pretending that you didn't know what I meant. And anyway, half of 1.8 tflops would be 900 gflops, not the 800 you said.
You want me to say greater than? Fine! The PS4 is 50% more powerful than Nextbox (I feel dirty calling a 1.8 tflops console in 2013 "more powerful." Thanks a lot). If that holds up the Nextbox is a pos.
