A super cheap ($99? YES PLEASE) micro console that plays PSOne, PSP, and PS Vita games on the TV, comes bundled with a DualShock 3, lets me access the Vita library for just $99?

A microconsole that not only has a better game library than Chromecast/Ouya/Apple TV/Roku, but also has media and social functionality (YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Twitter, Skype, Facebook)?

Holy shit yes, I want this.

Converting what was basically an overpriced failing handheld with no market interest into a cheap microconsole with the best library of games in its class? Sony gets it. This will save the Vita.

I think this will solve my problem I had... Now I will be able to play all the Vita games I've gotten from PS+ :) I will definitely be getting this when it comes out. i also like that it can stream PS4 games to another room.

Not all Vita games will work on Vita TV.  Games such as Uncharted and Wipeout will only work on a PSV device.

Not really. Sony confirmed DualShock 4 functionality is being patched into the system (meaning touch screen features will be possible on the Vita TV too); moreover, developers can patch in Vita TV compatibility for individual games.

Um don't you need the PS Vita console along side the PS Vita TV device? Or am I missing something?  Cause holy shit if I could just buy this micro console device and play PS Vita games off the PS Store right off the bat.  That would be amazing.

What about games that require precise touching or manipulate objects? The PS4 touchpad is tiny will you have to be guessing where the objects palce is in the touch pad?

I'm semi interested for this. Only for the Vita games though. PS1/PSP games are going to look like sh*t on a big TV. Don't really care for the media functionality, I mean, who owns a Vita but won't get a PS4 or owns a PS3? To me it just looks like a cheap Vita so I can't complain :)

Crossel777
Nope, no Vita needed.

The dualshock 3 bundle costs $150. Anyways, it'll be interesting to see how this does out here. It's not the best way to play Vita games, but its success only means I'll have even more stuff to play.

Slashkice
P4G on an HDTV? Best way to play :3 [QUOTE="Kaze_no_Mirai"] What about games that require precise touching or manipulate objects? The PS4 touchpad is tiny will you have to be guessing where the objects palce is in the touch pad?

I assume individual games will have Vita TV control schemes patched in, and that future games will be developed with the new control schemes in mind.

"best library of games" Now you can play your console multiplats on your TV!

But I digress, if I already didn't have a Vita, $100 is a good price to play the games.

I was tempted to get a Vita but I am gonna wait for this instead. It is a much more appealing device to me. I have tons of Vita/PSP games to play because of PS Plus and this would be perfect to put in a bedroom because of how small it is and the ability to stream PS4 games as well as watch netflix.

It's a Vita. Sony has been very clear always that the ultimate aim is for Vita to become a platform instead of one system.

but Vita has dat OLED

Patching can fix some games (like SS that's already supported), but others just won't work. Tearaway is a good example, Technika as well:

Slashkice

I'll live without that OLED :P And yeah, I'm sure some games won't work on Vita TV. But I also assume that going forward, this won't be an issue, developers will develop for the lowest common denominator (just like how no 3DS game will be developed with anything 3D specific in mind going forward).

How is the Vita redundant when this is still, in fact, a Vita?

I get the feeling if Vita TV is successful, they'll have their excuse to phase the handheld out.

I'm definitely intrigued.

It is all about developer support. If the market for games expands, then the games will come. Whether you stick to VitaTV or get a handheld is really just a personal choice. It's not like there isn't a market for handhelds, though.

Why would they release a new slim version if they planned to phase the handheld version out?

If the Handheld continues to sale like crap while the TV actually proves successful, they found their out. I'm not saying they're quitting cold turkey, just that they found their out without outright abandoning it.

I don't like the idea because it seems like Sony is phasing out the handheld instead of attempting to make it better with more exclusives. But then I like the idea because if this flies off the shelves it could mean more third party support for vita. I would love to see games like mass effect, diablo and more western games on vita (and of course Japanese support) making it a well rounded device for both the diehard jrpg fans and western fans who like fps ect.

RIP Vita. Basically Sony killed their own handheld. What a waste of money it was to spend time developing the Vita, then they make this sh1t instead of fixing PS Vita's problems.

Exactly, if this helps expand the number of Vita-hardware owners to those who don't want a handheld, then it just ensures more games hit the system. To that end, I'm excited by the device.

For giving people the ability to play the games on the TV rather than only the handheld? the vita still exist and will continue.. this is just allowing people to play it on the TV if they don't wanna play it on the Vita... that's all... i don't know how to comment on your negative personality..

This was a brilliant move by Sony. I would never buy a Vita since I rarely go places where I can play games while I'm there, and while at home I'd either sit at my desk and play my PC or lay on the couch and play a console. This low price point adds me into their handheld equation where I would be buying Vita games.

I have a Vita and I'm still going to buy this.  It sounds awesome to be able to play Vita games on my big screen.  Reminds me a lot of the Game Boy player for SNES, of course it's much more expensive than that but doesn't require a system to use it with.  Genius.

Charizard has finally flipping lost it. A console going on an uphill battle that is basically a PS2.5 in power, is now fine because it will be able to be played on a TV making it pointless, when the PS3 7 years old is more powerful with more games, and the PS4 is about to come out. Yet Sony get it? No, You've lost it.

It might have opposite effect :> PS Vita might increse userbase means more developers will be interested to make games for it and as result PS Vita handheld might become more popular too. Sony made good move that makes something new and might save Vita from total fail

I need to see more. Whether the thing supports most Vita games, how well the PS4 remote play is implemented, and whether the damn thing makes it over here in the first place. If I have to import, hopefully I can load NA firmware on it.

hate on sony all you want but this is an excellent consumer-friendly move. a ps3 controller itself costs around 40$ so this price is reasonable to access vita games!

I agree. I've been holding of getting a Vita because I don't play handheld games anymore but there are a whole bunch of games on the PS Vita I would love to play. This Vita TV for only $100 seems like a great alternative for me. I think I'll buy one, you can't go wrong for something that cheap anyway.
