The PS3 is a goner.

Look...everyone knows it's sold about 3 mil more than the 360 in the same time frame. That means JACK. The PS3 was supposed to have stomped both the Wii and 360 into the ground and outsold both of them combined tenfold.

Sony has never been an easy company to work with and their systems have always been hard to code for. Devs complained left and right about the PS2. But the PS2 was so dominant and had no real competition that the devs had no choice but to bite the bullet and go where the money was.

That's no longer the case and both the Wii and especially the 360 are more than viable alternatives to the arrogant and pompous Sony gaming division.

This is going to be a ripple effect. You already see this happening as Sony exclusives become multiplat and the 360 gets exclusives that the original XBOX or Gamecube could never DREAM of having.

So, again, the fact that the PS3 is keeping pace with the 360...in reality means it's losing big time when you consider that this was supposed to be a blowout win for Sony.

MS is the more attractive company at this point because they have better devkits, their systems are easier to code for, XBL has a proven platform with standards (also making it easier to create a cohesive experience) and they are actually the "cooler" company compared to Sony now.

The Playstation name used to have a sense of epic meaning behind it. When you said Playstation, people know you meant business.

Now it's just another video game console.

And that's exactly what MS and Nintendo were hoping for.

Sony might not even make a PS4 at this rate.

They need to go back to old playstation methods if they want to succeed.

Get a bare bones SKU in production and get the user base up

that's how Sony used to do it. That's how Nintendo made Mario. (SMB3 in particular...anyone remember the movie 'The Wizard'??). That how MS made Master Chief. Hell...that's how Sony did it last year with the "Do ya want it!" commercial series which was incredibly awesome.

What do you mean poorly? They advertised LBP a lot on the tv. That's all I saw the last 2 months and they had 3 different commercials of it. They also advertised R2, but I haven't seen them in a while. Out of the 3 games you mention the only commercial I didn't see was MGS4.

On what I would call the "core" channels at prime times (ESPN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) I've seen next to no PS3 commercials (also toss in Sci-Fi and the news networks like CNN and MSNBC). Certainly nothing on the scope or scale of last year's ad campaign. Now...I don't watch brain-drainers like MTV, VH1 and BET, so if they're doing all their marketing over on those networks, then I'll have to take your word for it. But from what I've watched...I've seen very little from them. and with their stellar lineup, W1NGMAN- and I shouldn't be able to say that.

You don't get it do you. Nintendo marketed the Wii so f'n brilliantly....the Wii should be last this gen, but it's not you know why? Pricing for one, right out the gate 250, the cheapest "next gen" console.

but mainly MARKETING! They got people talking, "omg Wii Sport, ANYONE can play Wii Sport"...they made the Wiimote more than what it really was but it's gotten to that point that it's gonna sell regardless of what it has to offer because well everybody has a Wii, you just gotta have a Wii in your house.

The first post you made here that I can't agree with. more RPGs won't move PS3's. People are not buying the RPGs the PS3 already has (Valkyria Chronicles, Eternal Sonata, Fallout 3, etc.). I think it's all about console price now. make the price more competitive and the people will come.

Id rather pay that extra 15 for a wifi nicley built in rather than pay 60 bucks + for M$ propetary ****.

Well....that cost was factored with the features that were found on the launch PS3...

I am only guessing.....but if Sony went with a base SKU......No wi-fi......no card readers.....no BC...2 USB...The cost would have not been as expensive to manufacture ..then it would have been less expensive to the consumer....

I agree 249 would have been to aggressive for a launch unit..but 299-349 are not and really should have been introduced at launch...

Hope is fading for 360 owners, your 2009 lineup is miserable and you system keeps breaking down. If sales makes you happy, then by all means take solace in that, because that's about all you have to look forward to, lol.

As of right now even I am considering what might happen and thinking that maybe games like Valkyria Chronicles might be ported to the 360 to help Sega re-coup some of the heavy losses from POOR SALES.

I started to accept that the PS3 will always be last in this console war and I was fine with it just aslong they come out with excellent exclusive games. But when you step back and really assess the situation, having a console last place for long periods of time is just not good business and is more harmful than helpful.

Luckily the PS3 is just not a video gaming console but also a blu ray player. So if the PS3 is not a successful video gaming console at least I'm left with an excellent blu ray player. I just hope blu ray becomes the standard and prices for these high def movies are more competitive. Because if blu ray fails along with the PS3 being last place in this video gaming console war, than the PS3 is double dead.

Sony acted like amateurs in the industry this gen, ignoring what defined their brand is their biggest mistakes, The playstation was all about Square, MGS, GT, GTA, Tekken and JRPGs.

Only MGS left for Sony lol.

Only thing to do is to cut the price next year and I mean a big cut that forces Nintendo to cut their Wii price, Im talking about $249, it means BIG boost for both the PS3 and Bluray adopters install bases, that is the only and last chance for Sony to compete for what is left this gen, if they want to soldify their Blu-Ray fanbase before people going digital and to make big software sales to their PS3 games too, they need to do something like this ASAP.
