So if you care enough about this GDDR5 thing, you will be able to have it on a PC.

Long story short: when DDR4 arrives, GDDR5 will be rendered irrelevant. Quote:

"Once the DDR4 memory comes along the advantages of GDDR5 start to diminish again. DDR4 will enable higher densities at comparable speeds as well as upgradeable modules which might be more desirable for customers."

I'm not surprised. I mean, even now, the next gen consoles are shaping up to be weaker than my PC today. However, I was not looking for them to be equal to my PC. I just want them to not be quite as **** so we can see a decent leap in graphics. It will take a year or so for that to happen, and by that time PC hardware will have made another considerable gap in hardware.

Yes pc's advance all the time, but isn't this article just saying that for combined GPU/CPU chips like AMD release, there is going to be GDDR5 support? IE: the cheap combined solution that no one actually cares about?

DDR4 however is much more interesting news, but there was no word on when that would be released

We'll most probably see that news on this year's CeBIT. I guess it might get released late this year.

We shall see. If so I hope for release before I build my next rig in July, but not sure that is going to happen.

I highly doubt it'll get released so soon, but who knows. Performance/enthusiast modules are often released first, and tend to be expensive, so you might be in luck.

Why would you even want GDDR5 ram apart from on a graphic card in a PC anyway?

GDDR5 wasn't meant to be a system RAM in the first place. Sony can't allow that kind of luxury to have system RAM and video RAM separately in PS4. Therefore, there's was need to use GDDR5 on PC as a system RAM, and now when you actually can, it will be less needed when DDR4 arrives.

I don't think this is right. It actually makes sense for a console to have fast unified system and video memory, it means developers are given the maximum amount of freedom when they develop their games.

Of course on a proper pc, having unified memory like that is ugly, and not nice for those that like to upgrade.

why is there this massive thing about consoles vs pc's, honestly, there in different leagues, a pc the owner has to build it themselves to get the best out of it, and lasts around 3-4 years at high end levels, before something new comes out and you have to pay out again to get the best. when a console is already a game system for a good 6-10 years.

pc gaming is always going to be the better platform. stop comparing, and gddr5 ram, is a massive thing for CONSOLES, you may all keep going on about how ram isn't important this and that is important in a pc but 8gb of gddr5 ram, is an absolute massive step up from what the ps3 has in it, and all the developers are saying how good it is, because thats what it's about giving more power and room for the developers it doesn't effect the gamer.

Hermits think a little better ram will get them PS3 exclusives . Id like to see them find a custom built GPU with 8 CPU cores, which is much more important then ram when you already got a 8gb GDDR5 backbone.

The model is listed with 1 CPU as the third most power i think it was, the same model being built for the PS4 has 8 CPU cores. This was the official statement from the GPU producers themselves.

More cores doesn't mean more power, it can lower the performance as there is a communication delay between each core.

Please actually back up your claims or shut up.

Actually thats the thing, it specifically also talks about how the power produced by the cores are not limited to graphics, or similution tasks, as it can be either, or, or a mix of the two simultaneously. It also uses a GDDR5 built in memory controller itself, which means even more then 8gbGDDR5 memory.

Most powerful APU, and it's not on the market (yet). The most powerful GPU's are the 7970/Titan.

Because its the most powerful GPU on the market. Which is why everyone is saying PS4 > PC from now on.

Most powerful APU, and it's not on the market (yet). The most powerful GPU's are the 7970/Titan.

79 series and titan are more powerful then the 78 series on the market, but the 78 series built for the PS4 is not on the market and is more powerful then all of those.

What is that? your posting a chart of gigaflops while were talking 1.84 teraflops?

GFLOPS per watt. And Nvidia has lower gflops per watt compared to AMD.

Though that list is odd, because the 680 has 15gflops/w, and that's Kepler. Maybe it's average for the whole GPU lineup with that architecture?
