[QUOTE="XVision84"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] Mass Effect 3 is a good game, but it's the weakest in the series: it sacrifices the great RPG gameplay of the first game, and the incredible storytelling of the second game, to create a mishmash, a weird amalgamation that feels like a betrayal to both sides. And that's without even considering that goddamned ending.charizard1605
Really? I found that ME3 improved what ME2 was trying to do (in a good way), but managed to incorporate some more RPG mechanics in there. It was a good compromise between ME2 and ME1 IMO. I think that Mass Effect was 1 generation too early though. They had a great vision of how the series should be, but there are lots of framerate problems with the games, and all of the Mass Effect games were a little awkward on consoles (in terms of animation and voice acting). The whole experience just didn't feel very fluid. They might've just ended up facing the same problems next gen as they did this gen, but at least they would've been able to add in a lot more detail into the game.
I think I disagree with you entirely on what you said about Mass Effect 3; it wasn't a compromise, it was a half hearted attempt to appease two disparate camps of series fans, one that failed to strike a chord with any. I think that if you go into the series expecting RPG elements (lol), then Mass Effect 1 remains the best one, and if you go into it for the story and storytelling, Mass Effect 2 remains the best one. 3 tries to be a Jack of all trades, and ends up master of none.Well, either way we both agree that it was a good game, and it certainly didn't deserve all the hate directed at it. Bioware did good pulling off that story, sure they hit some bumps along the way but it turned out a heck of a lot better than Assassin's Creed did IMO. And it was much more consistent than Uncharted, that's for sure. I just want next gen to start already so we can start churning those gears of creativity again. We need new multiplatform IP's!
