[QUOTE="bobbetybob"] So you chose games that are almost entirely sequels and for the most part don't actually improve on their predecessors.bobbetybob
You kidding? Absolution and Blops 2 both made tons of changes and in my opinion are all the better for it. Borderlands 2 expanded and improved on the original in almost every. possible. way. You have an argument against Silent Hill and D3, I'll give you that, but the other 3 did what every sequel should strive to do; expand, improve, and experiment.
Didn't you say you'd never played any of the other Hitman games (might not have been you)? Absolution's "improvements" remove what makes the games great, they made disguises useless and the score system basically moans at you for playing the game how YOU want which was part of the fun of the old Hitman games.
Black Ops 2 is great, but "paving the way for the future" hell no, nobody is going to copy the strike force missions or the alternate endings.
Borderlands 2 was my biggest disappointment of the year, don't know why, I just didn't enjoy it. The first game was fun and simple, it was silly when it needed to be and it kept things simple with the main draw being the addictive loot collecting. And now here's Borderlands 2, it's soooo funny and soooo over the top, wheee aren't we having fun yet?! No not really, because even though you made the story better the gameplay feels exactly the same as Borderlands, you have a ton of incredibly annoying enemies and it all just feels like a big grind. And regardless of my thoughts, again, it doesn't "pave the way for the future" either.
The Walking Dead is emotive and compelling story telling done right, Dishonored is stealth and freedom of choice done right and Max Payne 3 (regardless of peoples opinions on the cutscenes) is third person shooting the best it's been since Vanquish. THOSE are games I want people to copy from this year.
I played the original Hitman and it sucked (I actually forgot about once owning that game). I've seen enough videos of Silent Assassin and Contracts to know that you couldn't pay me to play them. The visuals and animations look like somebody barfed on a dog turd and the gameplay certainly doesn't look enticing even though it might have been back in the day. I prefer the more challenging and stealth focused direction of Absolution.
I'm not even sure I would count Walking Dead as a video game. That sh*t is more like an interactive movie ala Heavy Rain, and I'm totally against that kind of stuff. It goes against the gamer in me. Haven't played Dishonored but I want to, game looks great. I'm impartial to MP3.
