[QUOTE="jun_aka_pekto"]GameSpot's scoring is fvcking broken. A game like Fire Emblem: Awakening gets 8.5 while Guacamelee! gets a 9. I'm not saying Guacamelee is bad, and I know all about the different reviewers, different systems shit, but their reviews have become seriously unreliable lately. A 7.5 for Pokemon Black and White? Are you kidding me, GameSpot? And that is exactly why I trust no reviews here on GS.Here at GS? Any game scoring at least a 9.0 is in contention. The most recent 9.0 (at Gamespot) game I'm playing right now is Metro: Last Light. I find it fun. But, it doesn't quite feel like GOTY material to me.Â

It's weird seeing so many people post Ni No Kuni. It was a good game, artistically, but I think people are going batshit over something that isn't extremely special outside of the environments.Minishdriveby
It had it's moments, for me though it would be amazing for 20-30 min, then slow as hell for 40 min, then pick up for 20 min, then slow as hell for 40 min. The art style and combat were amazing while some characters/interaction just put me to sleep.

The combat was horrible.Honestly? I liked it a lot. I can see why people have issues with it, and I respect that, but I really liked it. It's not math. It's criticism.
A broken system would be one in which everyone agreed with every score.
Anyway, Guacamelee is a great game and there is no reason it should not be eligible to score higher than Fire Emblem, especially considering one is $40 and one is $15.
[QUOTE="Minishdriveby"][QUOTE="Ballroompirate"]The combat was horrible.Honestly? I liked it a lot. I can see why people have issues with it, and I respect that, but I really liked it. It felt like a conceptual evolution of Pokemon's combat. My problem a lot of times were the mechanics of it and the dumb AI. The AI would guzzle MP and have nothing left for the remaining portion of the battle. Top it off with the fact that scrolling through menus and canceling attacks were often times not fast enough to get to the defend option to block the enemies special attacks. There were also quite a few times where you would click attack and there would be an ally blocking your path and because you have no control over movement after you make a command you can only watch as your familiar walks basically into a wall and will not attack the enemy. Other problems I had were that towards the end Oliver becomes over powered and there's no reason to just not use him for the majority of the battle. That's the combat. I had other problems with the game such as pacing and filler/handholding text. Also it was sad to see that the majority of the game was text dialogue and that they ran out of money to put more voice acting in the cutscenes. It had it's moments, for me though it would be amazing for 20-30 min, then slow as hell for 40 min, then pick up for 20 min, then slow as hell for 40 min. World Map: check Great story telling and acting: check Non-turned based battle system: check Control other characters: check Mini-games: check Side quests: check Diffculty: check Only things it left me wanting was New game+ feature and an actual huge end-game dungeon to explore that has more branching paths than the linear paths in most of the story "dungeons".
To contribute, Antichamber is the only game I would consider naming GOTY as of today. Not having played TLOU or Metro: Last Light. Or Ni No Kuni for that matter.

Ni No Kuni was great for me because it basically meshed all great things I like about JRPGs and wrapped it in a beautiful vibrant world. World Map: check
Great story telling and acting: check [At first I'd say yes, but thinking more and more about it. It was a rather simplistic story telling. Acting? There wasn't enough voice work.]
Non-turned based battle system: check [It didn't really work out for the better. It was cool being able to run away to dodge, but the lack of a defend button was infuriating in most cases, and control was taken completely away once you pressed a command such as attack]
Control other characters: check
Mini-games: check
Side quests: check [the majority boiled down to 2 different things, bounty hunts or boring takeheart/giveheart]
Diffculty: check
Only things it left me wanting was New game+ feature and an actual huge end-game dungeon to explore that has more branching paths than the linear paths in most of the story "dungeons".Â
We can freely impress our feelings (to a degree, that doesn't conflict the TOU) if we agree or disagree with a persons review/scoring of a game. Just like if I score a game a 9.5, you don't have to agree with that score, share my same likes and dislikes of said game. You're free to decide what that game is to you.
Ballroompirate
That's fine if you discuss what you think will be the GOTY. But, it's still the GS reviewers themselves who decide Gamespot's GOTY, not us (except for User's Choice awards). They'll likely have the same biases they had when they reviewed each individual game.

But the title of the thread states what is your GOTY.[QUOTE="jun_aka_pekto"]

But the title of the thread states what is your GOTY.My bad then. I'm thinking too far ahead towards the end of the year.
I still don't have a top three because I haven't played many of the "heavy hitters" yet.
- The Last of Us
- Metal Gear Rising: REVENGEANCE
- Fire Emblem: Awakening
The Last of Us is ahead by a pretty large margin right now.

Swap 2 & 3 for me
Metal Gear Rising, last of us, and Fire Emblem awakening. I'd probably give it to Rising though so far.

How are you gonna platinum it? HOW
Just finished it this morning btw. Great game but I didn't like the story and the final boss fight was weak

How am I going to platinum Rising? I already did 8D It was pretty tough, beating all the bosses while taking no damage and getting all S rank in Revengeance mode.Valid complaints~ I didn't mind the final boss but yeah kinda weird the story was pretty heh despite that part being worked by Kojima and his people...well I think they worked on the story part anyways.

Did you get any of the DLC? If so would you say any of it is worth it?

Uh it depends...I got both of the DLC but I've only finished the Jetstream Sam one. Sam plays very differently from Raiden plus he got a easier to use dodge button. He's a blast playing but since you didn't like the final boss that much, you probably won't like his final boss. The DLC is also pretty short. It'll take like...maybe less than an hour to beat. It's still a blast though. If you really liked Rising, get it but otherwise I'd skip it. I still enjoyed it heavily though. I can't comment on the bladewolf dlc sadly.
