What does the PS3 have to counter Gears of War 2?

i recently bought the GOTY edition, and wow. i can't believe what i was missing. this game is amazing. simply top notch quality. the pacing in the campaign is fantastic, and horde mode is addicting as hell. i owned R2, and many said it was the PS3's answer to Gears 2, but after playing both, i can safely say R2 doesn't hold a candle to it. the PS3 needs more games with a horde/survival mode. they're fun as hell.

the great thing about Gears 2 is that no one can bash it for being "easy". multiplayer is competitive and hard as hell. in fact, it's probably the most skill based shooter i've played on consoles this gen. and even though i get owned each and every time, the slick leveling system and countdown to achievements notification keeps me playing. i know PS3 owners are feeling high and mighty with their exclusives, and rightfully so, but i honestly don't see any game that challenges Gears 2 on the PS3.

The answer is Uncharted 2, and ironically enough, it's also totally different than Gears.

The survival mode in Uncharted is one of the most fun I've ever had in a game.

MGS4 is still the best game this gen IMO :P

The Uncharted series is the only TPS series that i guess can hold up. I have yet to play gears...Online peeps love it. People I know in the real world don't like it soo much.

And Resistance 2 was only used against Gears because they both came out at the same time-- otherwise, I really see no reason why these two games were ever compared.

Because you've played it, correct? I'm in the demo and I can safely say it is very different from Gears and a lot better.

Can you climb over walls and buildings to get higher vantage points for cover in GOW? Yeah, I thought not. Only things they share is that they are third person shooters and the cover system. Everything else is different. Oh and you know, Uncharted has an amazing story mode.

I'm blown away with the demo. So much so that I can't believe Uncharted 1 didn't have multiplayer. I really wasn't too stoked for this game and was largely interested in MW2 but WOW, this game is amazing.

And yes, it is different in so many ways from Gears, but shares the same core gameplay mechanics. I don't see what other game TC is looking for.

I only liked gears on splitscreen co-op and even then I didn't think it was all that great.

Held up better how? If you mean active players then yeah, but I'm sure Gears 2 had a crappy launch for online. The Gears 2/ R2 threads died after both games got the same score, which meant the stupid hostility of one exclusive getting higher than another exclusive stopped too. It's all people cared about to be honest, I really don't see any other reason these two were compared. Now if Gears 2 and Uncharted 2 were both released near the same time, System Wars would be even crazier.

gears 2 has laggy multiplayer and the cheap host thing. the single player is not eveen good. the onlt thing good is the horde mode. uncharted 2 has all that. gears2 is penuts to U2 trust me

have you played uncharted 2 yet? i doesn't take much to match gears of war, just your generic shooter, with classic grunts for main characters "OH YEAH!!!". i couldn't even stomach myself to finish the first one. Uncharted on the other hand was an awesome hollywood movie like adventure. the environment and story are what made it 20x better than gears. Naughty Dog makes you care for Nathan Drake. Gears of War not so much.

And you would know this how? Look if you like GEOW2, that's cool. You dont have to post a topic about it here claiming the game to completely eclipse Resistance 2, Uncharted 2 etc. You are dead set on your opinion on how every ps3 exclusive is inferior to GEOW2, so why do you have to keep asking us what the ps3 has to counter it? Besides, the ps3 has it's own share of exclusives that other systems dont have, it doesnt need a counter for every game the other systems do have. That's like saying the 360 does not have a counter for Killzone 2, because i find Halo 3 to be vastly inferior, period.
