I bet if you had played this when first released you would understand how good it is...
When you play it in 2011, after 6 years of its release , with so many way more advanced FPS out there , comparison is logical to be made and for sure not for HL2s favor.
The thing here is that HL2 was fantastic game with innovative physics and well paced story/action. But dont forget , its old already. Try to judge it as a 2005 game. And maybe then youll understand how good it is. Otherwise i can understand why you find it just okish..

Sorry, but I find this reasoning to be downright silly.If the game was truly great, it would be able to stand the test of time. System Shock 2 has been able to, the original Half Life has been able to, and No One Lives Forever has been able to.
Those games are still great when you play them to this day.
Half Life 2 was mainly building off the success of its predecessor. The inclusion of physics was the only thing that made HL2 stand out, and seeing as how technology in gaming has continuously progressed, the replayability and overall quality of the game was substantially weakened.
