Half Life 2 is a full game, and episode one is a sequel, but very short, and episode two is a short sequel to episode one.

The HL1 story was much more interesting. Even having old graphics engine, it provided way more interesting places. HL2 is a beautiful game technically, but the overall level design was pretty much average.. the setting wasn't fun like it was one the first HL.HECU and Black Ops agents are more fun than boring combine soldiers.

HL1 also had better AI than HL2, which is very weird.

exactly the AI on HL1 feels more clever. Half-life 1 remains one of my favorite games of all times, while Hl2 for me was a just decent, forgetable experience. The other big shooters released in 2004, Far Cry and Doom 3, are superior than HL2.

I bet if you had played this when first released you would understand how good it is...

When you play it in 2011, after 6 years of its release , with so many way more advanced FPS out there , comparison is logical to be made and for sure not for HL2s favor.

The thing here is that HL2 was fantastic game with innovative physics and well paced story/action. But dont forget , its old already. Try to judge it as a 2005 game. And maybe then youll understand how good it is. Otherwise i can understand why you find it just okish..

TC don't sweat it. Everybody's opinion on what makes a game great or bad is different. I still don't understand why people hold MGS4 up as one of the best games ever. To me it is boring, with a convoluted storyline, and some of the worst AI in a game I have seen. Of course just my opinion, and I know I am in the minority.

I really enjoy HL2, granted I played it when it first came out, and it was one of the best, if not the best games available at the time. Granted 7 years later it may not be a great game to someone who just played it for the first time. Personally I think it has stood the test of time, and it's one of the few games for that time frame that I can still load up and play and...not say wow that looks like crap, or get bored with it.

Sorry, but I find this reasoning to be downright silly.

If the game was truly great, it would be able to stand the test of time. System Shock 2 has been able to, the original Half Life has been able to, and No One Lives Forever has been able to.

Those games are still great when you play them to this day.

Half Life 2 was mainly building off the success of its predecessor. The inclusion of physics was the only thing that made HL2 stand out, and seeing as how technology in gaming has continuously progressed, the replayability and overall quality of the game was substantially weakened.

I played it when it came out.

It was a decent game until the cockroach looking enemies showed up.

That's as far as I reached in that game.

Eh not everyone is going to like very game out there. I kinda get what you mean about wanting to like a game. I always want to like racing sims like Gran Turismo and Forza but they just ended up being boring :/

commonfate
the way to like a sim is to play with a friend. put on gt5 and take in turns the license tests and races and just play non stop the whole day. when he sleeps you continue, when he wakes up you sleep. it can be really fun. just stack up with food and drinks so you dont leave away from the tv for too long...
