Pokemon proved that rpg's didn't have to have good stories or graphics or complicated gameplay. 2-10-08

Everybody knows Pokemon. Can't say the same thing for Fallout 2. Fact > Opinion

I am going with Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic, great usage of the Star Wars universal along with the path to be sith/jedi pending on your decision. My second option would be Skies of Arcadia.

I actually don't mind the newest edition, 4th, it feels far more streamlined and it feels like your character is able to do much more..

I wasnt an RPG fan until last gen. My favourite ones are:

1 - Oblivion

2 - Mass effect 2

3 - Mass Effect

4 - KOTOR 1

5 - The Story of Thor (one of the few action RPGs o played on 16 bit gen)
