I said A (adventure RPG) I agree it's more adventure but you did role play.

you could've meant A for action :| ?..but yeah there were small elements of rpg in it, but at heart its an good ol adventure game similiar to broken sword, and the longest journey
Lunar Silver Star Story Complete.raskullibur
Glad I am not the only Lunar fan out there, although I enjoyed Lunar 2 just a bit more.
Ultima Underworld
Planescape: Torment
Fallout
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
The Witcher
(System Shock 1 & 2
Deus Ex ) *
Wasteland
* if these can't be counted as any form of RPG, because there is strong element of this kind in them.
Persona 3, or Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.-Skyfall
Glad someone else besides me mentioned SMT:Nocturne, best Jrpg since the snes/ps1 days, very unique as well.
my only gripe, was the cheesy/unnecessary idea of putting Dante in as a character....
Only one person mentioned my favourite RPG of all time. I would say thankyou, but I really wanted to be the first to say it. So, screw you foxhound_fox:P.
Definitely the coolest RPG to ever hit the scene in the last couple of years, was:
Following in the footsteps of the Fallout series (Troika Games was composed of previous Interplay/Black Isle Studios developers. They have subseqently moved on into Obsidian Entertainment), "Bloodlines" had the edginess of story/setting like Fallout, the true choice/consequence of Fallout, and also the complete bugginess of Fallout. But man was it (and still is) a game.
Choose one of the vastly different species of Vampire, and the game must be played different each time. If you're an ugly Nosferatu, you're only going to get around through the sewer system, where no human can see you. If you're a Toreador, you're going to sweet talk your way through the game.
It has a much better conversation system than what Bioware has been recently putting out. All the conversation branches are not clear cut good or bad options, and most, if not all choices you make in the conversation have bearings on what you can and can't do in the future.

A lot of characters just stand out. The Voerman sisters who own the asylum are pretty darn cool, and even the minor players like Knox are a joy to see. Some levels are truly magnificent, and "Bloodlines" may just have had one of the scariest sequences in recent years, let alone 2004. That level, is the infamous Ocean View Hotel.
The only problems is that this game is (was) buggy, and the combat was kinda crap. Those problems have mostly been solved. I mean, even when "Bloodlines" is heavily underappreciated, there's still a hardcore community releasing patches that continue to improve the smoothness of the game. If you have an itchy trigger finger, even GameSpot hosts some patches that make the game more like a FPS just to make the combat a little more fun and easier.
But yeah, amazing game. In the top 5 of my most favourite games ever, and definitely my most favourite RPG of all time.
Hard choice just to pick 1, if I had to I would probably pick kotor with baldurs gate close in second place and then nwn. Also I agree with FrozenLiquid Vampire was a good rpg but its bugs really put me off and I stoped playing it halfway I was waiting for some patches to fix the issues and I just forgot about the game I guess I have to give it another shot.RevenMan
KotOR is probably my second favourite RPG, though the epicness of Baldur's Gate is really getting to me lol.
Oh, and Deadpool is hilarious.
Including nostalgia, I'd say SNES's Digital Devil Story. For an SNES game, it was pretty dark and disturbing for an RPG (or for any SNES game for that matter). I still remember starting that game up and appearing in this dream like realm and walking along, finding a person crucified on a cross, your party member representing Law (heaven) and then continuing on to find a man lying on the ground with a demon on his back, your party member representing Chaos (hell) and then coming back to the real world, encountering demons, making them your minions, watching the balance between Law and Chaos tip ever so slowly. It was actually pretty ahead of its time.
Which RPG had the best leveling, extra monster hunts, and best abilities add on?
I like Final Fantasy 12's hunts.

try Patches Scrolls . Is the enhanced mod something different than what is present on this page ?

The SNES Shin Megami Tensei games have aged TERRIBLY. Though it wasn't like most of them were well designed in the first place. I still shutter over SMT II's "Regular enemies are harder then bosses" and the constant text loops. Saying this the games had much potential I mean the gameplay premise was there even the basic execution it was just the design and awkward decisions that led them to be so terrible. I could link you to a site that has all the ROMS for these games but I'll get banned. :P Anyway it was very lucky for the series to eventually become what it should've been with Devil Summoner II Soul Hackers, Devil Summoner, and Nocturne.
Arcanum. Main reasons are the world and the main story. Both are great.Icarian
Interesting pick. I enjoyed the setting and the character development system, but felt like it was lacking somewhere. Great game though.

I did say "including nostalgia" so I overlooked the comparison to later games in the series. For its time though, it was very entertaining.Still, are you sure we're talking about the same game here? I only played one on the SNES and I'm not sure which one it was exactly (it was kind of translated... someone did it for me) and I don't remember it being that bad at all. Sure, by today's standards it'd fall short, but back then...
And hey, what about the Persona "subseries" :P
I'd have to agree with those 3. How I forgot to even mention DQ8 is beyond me, and I am saddened that I failed to mention it. I can't say Persona 3 yet though, I'm not done.. yet.Dragon Quest VIII, Persona 3 FES, Nocturne,

I'm not that far into it yet though. I just got to the top of Arqa and have a couple days before the next full moon.
Oh yeah, quick question, I have the regular version of P3. I wanna get FES, but if I do, will I have to start all over or does it let me use my P3 save?
