What's better? Sony's Gran Turismo series or Microsoft's Forza series?

@ermacness: Yeah asking if GT is still relevant is Abit of a stretch, especially considering how well it’s doing in e-sports and overall sells.

If we’re going by the logic of numbers, it’s actually by far the most relevant console (track focused) racer, aside from horizon of course which is open world based, however both impressively pull in crazy numbers. For overal driving based games.

As for next gen, there is definitely more hype centered around Gran Turismo 7, and this is based on sheer numbers that I’ve viewed from trailers regarding next gen titles. The proof is in the numbers, and there is just more Hype and nearly 10x the audience centered around GT7s reveal. Itself. And it was extremely positive, the fans are getting what they want, it’s a return to “Gran Turismo” itself, while still retaining break through features from sport.

Probably one of the most highly anticipated titles of next gen; and Sony knows it’s a console seller.

So is it still relevant? Yes. Very much so.

I was a fan of GT 1 & 2 back in the day also, but the Forza Motorsport/Horizon series are just so much better racing games than GT.

@rzxv04: gtsports last reported numbers from June 2019 were 8 million copies as reported from Sony, if I was to guess gtsports current numbers now it would either be 9.5 Million or possibly over 10.

But like I said, no other driving games can touch either horizon or GTS in terms of sells, they outright dominate their respective categories, and it’s impressive how driving games in general in this day and age can pull these types of numbers, so my hats off to both Turn 10 and PD

I'm saying that's pretty relevant in a sense that they're probably not bleeding from the IP. Looks like racing games don't need as much R&D anyway, nowadays. No need to hire writers or add unusual mechanics, it's a standard sport and it's mostly hard surface models, almost no animations.

Now if car manufacturers start charging crazy for the licenses then that might be a problem.

Go to a proper racing game forum or discord, talk to core racing fans who are top players at these games, and you'll see that it's very much up for debate. Neither series is steam rolling the other across the board, plenty of detailed discussion on the pros and cons of each.

@i_p_daily: No lying needed, both series are great, it just depends on which you enjoy or prefer more. For around 10 million that's GTS at the moment, FM7 has around 2 million that think its better.

Let me repeat my self again, without GT there would not be a Forza today.

In fact MS first official racer was PGR which was name metropolis street racer before that and was a dreamcast game before the xbox release and MS bought the game and again was after develop after years after GT.

I love both but GT just feels better to me control wise. I am not sure why though. GT’s lighting engine and cinematography on the replays are a class of its own.

Forza has more to offer content wise and have arcade style challenges/modes that keeps things fresh. The cars look fantastic!

The original GT is one of the most influential racing games of all time. It didn't invent racing sims, but it certainly popularized them.

See, that's the thing, there's SW level, and then there's YOUR level. What you was initially arguing was that relevance is tied to quality rather than sales because "cows" dictated that this gen. Ok, now I'm going to try to pull water from a stone and go through the details for you.

1. Cows aren't completely wrong with that statement in reference to sales because the ps4 completely destroyed the x1 in sales, even way worse than what the 360 did to the ps3, and since more sales = more players (99% of the time) and more players = more relevance, the ps4 would be more relevant.So in reference towards sales, that claim wouldn't be far from the truth.

2. You can't dictate "general" relevance from a personal opinion (reviews). While it is a fact that generally Forza have outscored GT, it's still all from THEIR perspective. While a particular butthurt faction hate sales talk worse than cats & dogs, sales are factual. It's a fact that GT usually outsell Forza in direct comparison, so GT is more than likely to have a higher player count, in which would be classified as being "more relevant".
