I think he tied it all together brilliantly. I can't think of any loose ends.[QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"][QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"]Because I hate where Kojima took the story and some of the **** he pulled. SionPT
Yeah i dont get it, people are never happy with anything, The guy managed to wrap up a a history with so many '?' marks, and so many details, and he pulled it off.
I mean look at MGS time line, kojima made that mostly alone, thats brilliant
And he admitted that he didn't have all the answers ahead of time. Unlike so many others who claim they have these huge elaborate stories planned years in advance. Which is mostly bullocks. I replayed every MGS before buying part 4. (Yes including the MSX originals) and I couldn't have been happier with MGS4. I was nearly brought to tears by the end. It's epic and stunning. The gameplay innovations are too numerous to count. The storytelling innovations are all over the place. There is nothing else quite like it and there never will be. Truly deserving of it's TEN and GOTY status.Saying that MGS has too many cut scenes is like saying mario has too much platforming. Who here plays MGS for JUST the gameplay?
Not Really, I was really pissed when this happened I had to wait to resume playing. I found this worse than having to switch discs like I do with the consoles of old and games on the 360 like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. In fact, it does give me a sense of nostalgia. Not switching discs in a Final Fantasy game doesn't seem right. I might get FF13 for the 360 if the PS3 version doesn't have any extras. Anyway, the MGS4 is just the exception rather than the rule. But still, all my other PS3 games did require an initial install. I just hope the case with MGS4 doesn't occur in future games. Having a mandatory install pisses me off. I just want to pop in the disc and play. Yeah, I'm kinda lazy when it comes to this, but I don't want to spend my me-time having to wait. It's annoying that after buying the game with my hard earned money, I come home, pop it in, and there's this friggin' installation required. What is this? A PC game? Ugh. I know this borders absurdity, I don't want to be hassled anymore by installations I really hate forced installs, and I hate choosing the games to play based on how many games I can fit into a forced-installation-based hard drive. That's why PS3 games load slowly. I'll go on record to say I'd hate nblu-ray drive because I'd want my life back after wading through 20 games with forced installs. I don't play on consoles to install my game. I don't play on consoles to manage the space on my hard drive for what games could fit into it. That's what PC's are for. Actually, Steam does all my installing for me.[QUOTE="BloodSeeker1337"][QUOTE="siLVURcross"] I thought the installs were pretty nice, gave you a nice break in between Acts.SionPT
its 2 minutes men, just like kojima said on the instaling screens: Take a break. go take a piss -.-

You're looking at it from the wrong angle.
The pacing was not wrong, it was perfect. SOME cut-scenes are out of place (Which I admit I skip every time I play again) but the majority are well paced as the other series'
The gameplay, had great pacing.
The story was the worsed executed? Also, am I the only one that knows that nanomachines have been a topic in the MGS world since MGS2? So stop with the damage control that Hideo Kojima just "ALL OF A SUDDEN PUT NANOMACHINES TO MAKE ENDS MEET" It's been apart of the story since the begining.
The Boss battles were equally as awesome as the ones in MGS2 and MGS3. I will admit, MGS1 by far had the best boss battles.
But the Snake vs Ocelot final boss in MGS4 is one of the most epic fights in gaming history. so serious, yet so humorous.
Anyways, the storyline wasn'tconvoluted at all, the game was a fanservice and you enjoyed the previous installments you'd enjoy this one more.
The ending, not satisfying? Every Kojima game I played, I was always left... WHAT??? What happens next? Where's he going? Why did he do that? What happened to Metal Gear? How's Snake? What are nanomachines? How come he didn't die? What the hell... TELL ME MORE!
After completing MGS4 seeing snake battle ocelot to death, johnny and meryl get married, raiden reunite with his famly and Snake meeting Big Boss ofr the first time almost two decades and killing Zero then seeing Big Boss die my only reaction was *wipes tear off eye*
The patriots, Les Enfant Terrible, E.E, Control of Information, Philosophers Legacy, War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles... where was this? No where, saying oh nanomachines solves everything is a horrible plot. The pacing was wrong my friend, it was all over the place ACT 3 was walking around for 30 minutes, then a chase scene, then a boss battle. You know its missing classic MGS set points, looking for a missing person, getting torture scene, sniping battle, some crazy out the ballpark moment that tells you to turn your coontroller off. Ryan payton worst thing to happen to MGS. Boss Battles imo were the worst minus the last boss battle and the Rex vs Ray battle. They were all to easy and had no real flow. I do have to say that MGS4 was probably the most cinemaitc in the series. The game had FIVE ending cut-scenes, then a huge WTF cut-scene after the game was over. I don't want to spoil anything. IT was just a horrible ending, MGS1,2,3 had epic endings that made you wonder.the story is a mess toward the second half. at some point you just cant take the story seriously. by the ending you pretty much stop caring.

MGS and "serious story" have never gone hand in hand. It's always be off beat, quirky, and melodramatic. At what point did you ever take it so seriously? Vampires in MGS2? Bee villians in MGS3? T-Rex machine in MGS? Come on now.Its like they pretend they don't know what MGS gamesare like.Saying that MGS has too many cut scenes is like saying mario has too much platforming. Classic MGS type twist with required "fifteen minute" explanation afterwards.its true. i'v always thought MGS gameplay was ass. seriously mgs 1-3 i ONLY played for story. those games were like cool movies with annoying gameplay sequences in between. you want good stealth gameplay go play Splinter Cell. Seriously, go play that and MGS's stealth gameplay will look like a joke. Story was exclusively the reason for me playing 1-3. And MGS 1 and 3 delivered. Amazing games. 2 is a POS FTS. Then there came 4 and some parts of the story I really really liked while others i couldn't help but laugh at. The gameplay, however, finally put SC's gameplay to shame. Absolutely amazing stealth gameplay in 4. But yeah. my point is i agree and it is the story that made the series for me. definitely not the gameplay.Saying that MGS has too many cut scenes is like saying mario has too much platforming. T-Rex machine in MGS? Come on now. Really? Playing MGS 1 you totally get the feeling that the story is serious. Really, back in that day even making it seem like a Hollywood movie was supposed to allow you to take the game with the same seriousness you take a war/spy/terrorism movie. This means that they MEANT for you to take the game story seriously. Same with 3 except for the bosses. Seriously take out the rediculous bosses from 1 and 3 and you get a serious story that has something to say about human nature and war. How is that NOT serious? That's why I despise MGS2. It was just one big joke. Huge disappointment after the greatness of MGS1. The story for 2 was all jokes and rediculous sci-fi BS. MGS always has some sci-fi but for 2 its like Kojima went crazy on that ****. If he made it so it turned out Snake was a space marine from the year 3000 people that love the game would probably eat it up and call it a genius plot twist.Short gameplay - clunky online - awful plot & hollow lifeless characters - aggressively boring movie
Felt like the gameplay was an add-on
The replay value is so frustrating - because if you want to unlock all that ridiculous fluff you have to quit to the main menu each time you slip up & get an alert
And I still feel like I'm being very kind to this game - I came to it just really wanting to like it
the story is a mess toward the second half. at some point you just cant take the story seriously. by the ending you pretty much stop caring.

I think you take video games way too seriously. The series has always had it's excentricities. Yes even in the first. Even the original Metal Gear on the MSX had crazy boss battles and self indulgent plot. MGS4 says a lot about war, the future of war, and the passing of our genes.[QUOTE="sikanderahmed"]...so this must have been your first MGS game.long cutscenes, not enough gameplay

yes it was
Because it's not on they're system of choice? ;) Seriously though, I liked the game and I really don't understand the complaints. If you're not into action/stealth games then why are you play MGS4. Don't say the game is awful if you don't like the genre to begin with. I think that's where most of the hate comes from.I read many disappointed comments of people after playing this game. I mean, it got 10 here, on Ign and has a a great average on Metacritic. so what didn't gamers like about MGS4? :?

heh. well excuse me for wanting smart and engaging stories in my movies, novels, and, yes, even my videogames

Wow that's impressive. The MGS story is a sticky one i'm surprised you didn't put it down like the rest of the haters after an hour. The game itself its great, great gameplay, great graphics/art. The history in the other hand is garbage. After MGS3 you would expect something really good, considering it was the end of Solid Snake tale, in the end I was completely dissapointed.
[QUOTE="BloodSeeker1337"]Overrated. It's more of a movie rather than Game because of the long cut scenes. And the mandatory installs are terrible :xsiLVURcrossI thought the installs were pretty nice, gave you a nice break in between Acts. Agreed. Maybe you would like it more if you had played the other games in the series since story is 1/2 the deal in MGSi think a lot of people had a problem with the lengthy cut scenes. i enjoyed the game a lot, and i found it to be a little much, personally.I read many disappointed comments of people after playing this game. MGS4 would have been a great BluRay movie.
There was Little Gameplay but a whole lot of Movie.
although I enjoyed the game but that's because I played all the Solid games up to that point. a Perfect Closure.
MGS4 is wayy too much like a movie than a game93soccerMovies last at max 3 hours. MGS4 is 6 hours of cutscenes, and another 6 of gameplay. Half and half, at least that's what I clocked in. Skip em' if you don't like them.
[QUOTE="SamGv"]Nothing less than that for me either Every time you post, I imagine GeneralMLD saying it :lol:MGS4 is one of the greatest games I have ever played.

To all of those who say it has no/way too little gameplay:
The Gameplay in MGS4 is about twice as much/long as cod4, mw2, waw, halo3, fable 2, odst, uncharted 1, god of war 1, god of war 2, Killzone 2, heavenly sword etc...
but MGS4 also features an extra 9 hours to tell its perfect story.
the game is everything an MGS fan didn't want. for one, you actually get to buy you're weapons. that's garbage. i liked scavenging the battlefield in MGS1-3 for a crappy pistol, and then use that pistol for the majority of the game. now i have a portable gun shop with me and can buy 550 rounds of M4 ammo. it takes away from the "survival" aspect. also, there's only 4 hours of gameplay, and only the first 2 acts are good. the act where you're in europe and have to trail that guy was absolutely horrible. the final act was especially bad. the game did have some epic moments though. the fight with ocelot in the end, the microwave crawling scene, and... thats about it.
MGS3 is the best MGS without a shadow of a doubt.

2 flaws long cut scenes and sometimes the story can be a little confusing.

While I not think MGS4 was a bad game Idid find the story was weak compared to the other MGS games. It wasway to melodramatic and convoluted even for a MGS game. Then we haveCH.3? Come on now lol and Kojima and Murata tries to hard to make sense of everything and the end results aren't that great, also a lot of the story elements felt rushed, Raiden even as a cyborg ninja is still a lame scene kid)
